well I am heading off on my own adventure in 11 weeks from today (Easter Monday), weather permitting natch. So I'm watching every penny like @G King but, what the heck, I've just sheeted in for a close haul and I'll trust to the law of reciprocity!

@chris widney There is no better feeling than to pull into a safe anchorage having fought your way through a good blow. As a former commercial fisherman, I've never felt a more alive than when pulling into port with a hold full of fish after fighting our way through storm force weather.
Pascal, I would like to say you are a very very brave woman. My wife would have been screaming and in tears. I am not saying she is not as brave as me, because I would have been screaming and in tears. Troy is an old salt, I got that, but you handled yourself quite admirably. I sincerely respect your courage.
THIS is proper sailing! It's great to watch skilled sailors showing how it's done without the benefit of a big flash yacht in calm seas. You two are miles in front of the pack - take a bow.
Faith in his own abilities, and also in the repair to the boom! Balls of steel... and wonderful deadpan Aussie humour, 'We're only sinking a little bit'. Pascale's chirruping made for an emotional soundtrack - and it was wonderful to watch. Well done indeed for bringing Mirool home safe and sound.
With all that was going on it is so impressive that you collected this footage and were able to share such an experience with your viewers. The boom repair appears to be bomb-proof, and it certainly was tested. Respect.
What a fun episode. I love Pascal's sound effects. Teaching skiing one can tell when people are afraid when their voice changes, looks like the same in sailing.
I'm about 6 months behind and just catching up on older episodes - that was some wind! I remember how hot it was, back when the bushfires got real bad. Respect for dealing with that wind.
One of your best. When you were talking about watching for chaf on the furling line it reminded me of a delivery of a Roberts 45. We lost the furling line at night with 50 knots out in the bite. To get the heady in we motored to wind into a huge sea. Two crew crawled to the bow and used a winch handle between the foil and luff to furl the sail. Being calm on the outside whilst you're screaming on the inside makes you a good skipper.
You proved your metal on this one Mate! And your wonderful, trusting (in you) , sweet wife! I loved this video more than any other - so many emotions/fear/worry/ anxiety/joy/laughter/victorious and learning - you guys ROCK!
That's the best bit of sailing video since some of the Whitbread round the world stuff. Blake on ciramco and the like. You guys are truely among the best
Great sailing and advice under extreme weather conditions. Poor Pascale takes another one for the team. Troy looks like he’s in his element and the boat is behaving beautifully. Just goes to show a lot of preparation and maintenance when on the hard makes all the difference. Troy you and Pascale must be so proud. Love ya to bits just be safe ❤️👍🏴
What a joy! Sorry I'm behind watching your videos. My daughter has had the same migraine for 3years (non stop pain) and she's taken a turn for the worse. So, I've been busy caring for her, her brothers, working and hoping for a medical treatment to help soon. I took some much needed R and R and watched a video. Thanks so much for sharing your adventure. The videos always calm me. Blessings, 💖 Olaina

WOW!!! Well done you two and my hats off to ya captain. 50 knots in that little boat had to have been one hell of a ride and you showed a hell of a lot of skill in getting her in safely. Your little vessel is definitely well built and designed as that passage proved. It may not have been a jaunt across the pond so to speak but that would have been more than enough excitement for me. It's also something I wouldn't even attempt without your experience/skill. Again well done you two, Troy for knowing what and how to do it and Passy for keeping her calm when obviously just a bit terrified... As always fair winds, safe travels and God Bless...
Really enjoy the honesty of your experience, Pascale feeling a little scared but filming it all, and Troy hanging in there till the job’s done. Each episode takes us back to times we shared similar experiences on the water.
glad to see someone else showing what happens in true sailing.i had visualized sailing for years.in 2008 i left everything, bought a 30 ft. sailboat in fla. and moved onto it.had never sailed before.taught myself to sail.and began going into the gulf,in rough weather, alone.other sailors thought i was insane.most of my time doing this looked exactly like your video.i felt that without experiencing this, i could not truly know what i was up against.i learned a lot in a short time.thanks for showing the true ocean.

Aye m8's, absolutely lovely vid. Something to watch more then once! Nice skill there you both, Troy for bringing the goods to shore and Pascale for making the best out of filming it. 💪 I don't know who is impressing me most, but that's not your worries. 😉
Armchair expert comment. We have a cutter rig with a hanked staysail on a moveable wire forstay which is great when wind is over30 The roller head sail only sets decently when rolled less than half and still we're overpowered So the staysail headstay is tensioned onto foredeck tack by a big pelican tackle and the cutter goes to work Beauty!
Jeez, Troy, you exhibited absolute sang froid there. Not surprised you were knackered by the time you got into the anchorage. I would have slept for a week! Pascale, I'm amazed by you keeping your cool, too. Great team, great fun to watch.
Gawd! You could see the line from the front across the sky in the footage! Gradient winds on the back sides of pressure systems- You guys are SO pro! I dont watch other peoples caught in gale videos. Had to see how it was done by the best!
Well that was exciting, an accomplished skipper showing the gunnels in the water with confidence in his craft (vessel & abilities).Thank you for all you guys do!
OMG all I want to do is give you both a big hug, and say well done, what a great display of skill and determination. You made my day ........ again. Thank you for such a fantastic insight to your life on the water. Thank you.
Great video showing exactly what its like some days, the effort required, which reminds me the same. Even a 30 ft boat for heavy weather needs to consider their sail plan. Well done Troy.
Tough boat, tough crew, tough conditions, well done both of you for keeping your cool and getting there safely. That sort of sailing is not for the faint of heart, respect...
I think Troy was having a great time with no worries. For sure a nip or two when at anchor or mooring. Pascale a real trooper. Great video, glad you guys kept the camera running. You could have wimped out and turned to sailing totally. Thanks sailors !🍻

Great to see a REAL sailorman in action, Troy! Thanks for the ride! BTW, you remind me of the late Ronald Ryan - a true sailorman, he had two Liberty Ships shot out from under him in WWII, sailed his 28 footer from NYC to the Canaries, Spain, Greece, and back to Florida. He was my business partner and is sorely missed, but I know he's sailing somewhere in the dreams of eternity.
HA! Just thought of it, my profile pic is of myself in the belly of Ron's Bertram 54, overhauling the 8V92's ! He went powerboating after his knees went bad in his early 70's.
Brilliant video guys, we were racing in late October in Pittwater and experienced teh same wind speeds, essentially cancelling the second day of race series, probably the same time as you were there I imagine. Just found your channel glad I did ,this is far better than some of the other "sailing channels " on TH-cam where they are sailing from tourist destination to tourists destinations ,and they have a bad week because the ice maker stoped working and the service agent can't get to them until the next day ,and there biggest problem has been the two restaurants that didn't accept American Express .Keep it real guys ,Cheers.

This probably my favorite sailing channel to be honest. It's fresh and organic with tons of sailing knowledge.
Hats off to Mirrool! One tough 50 year old sailing vessel. ⛵️
I'm a 57yr old sailing...um...something. Where are my teeth?
Now that's sailing! A pucker factor of 12 on a scale of 1-10.
George Dean yes I too am all puckered out! 😱
That was so much fun to watch, Troy did an amazing job of keeping control and I just loved Pascale's very nervous laugh and facial expressions
Troy you are a heck of a sailor; a master of the seas. Well done. Glad to see the boom held up to the great patch you both did. Huge fan of you both.
What a fun episode. I love Pascal's sound effects. Teaching skiing one can tell when people are afraid when their voice changes, looks like the same in sailing.

Perfect music while Pascal was cleaning up the "mess."
Wow, what an episode! Non-stop excitement. Mad skills Troy!!!
Proper sailors, proper sailing. No dramas
I note that your repair job on the boom held up well! Good work there my man!
Epic winds ! GOOD JOB ! good on ya mate ! ..... THANKYOU ! ... Onward.....
Great vide. One of your best yet. It’s amazing to see no5 only the yachts ability but Troys as well.
Whoa! That was hectic! Mirrool looked untroubled and, if the Skipper was concerned, never let on. The Basin must have come as a welcome oasis.
Such stunning scenery. I enjoy this a lot. Reminds me of my trips where I take the good music like the Guns N Roses, Imagine Draongs or the Delta Parole and then enjoy the powerful feeling of the sea. ¡vamos!
What a roller coaster of an episode and great sailing.
Real impressed with you Pascal how well you kept cool and had total trust in your skipper.
You guys are an inspiration.
I know you’ve talked about this before but thought a line from skipper to boat would have been a wise choice.
Enyoy the rest , thanks so muchfor sharing. G
It's a personal judgement but I would have had a harness and tether on in those conditions.
Yep. And I never go barefoot on deck, no matter how nice the weather. One accidental slam into something and you can have a nasty injury to deal with while at the same time trying to deal with a host of any of the million other things that can go wrong on a boat.
Yeps, it’s not nice to do a man overboard manoeuvre in 50 knots of wind looking for your boyfriend in high seas..........the coast then is far away.
My thoughts too.
Agreed, a bit foolish. A life jacket at the very least.
How did we ever survive the 60’s and 70’s without OHS Nazi’s.
GREAT SAILING viewing! Thank you!
Soooo, a good taste for the Southern Ocean ahead! 😀👍⛵
Funny to see sailing in bad weather in a full ironed white elegant shirt... what a style! :)
so many good one-liners!
