  • This week I have been driving the 2023 Volkswagen Taos the newest compact SUV in VW's lineup. could it be better than a Honda HR-V or The VW Tiguan? Lets find out!
The exterior of the Taos is exactly as sporty as you'd expect from VW and it also looks really nice in Red. The 18 inch wheels looks good with the overall style of the vehicle as well. The Taos has a lower ride height and is super compact you can see that when we look at from the side but that makes it good for things like strapping stuff onto the roof.
The interior is a nice place to spend time. It looks similar to the Tiguan's so similar that it makes you think if this could just be a smaller Tiguan. I will let you be the judge of that. The Taos has all the interior features you could need from the wireless apple car play/android auto, intergrated navigation heated seats.

I have our 21,000 kms (13,000 miles) on my 2022 Taos Comfortline (US Spec SE)
A couple of things; you CAN access the sport mode from toggling the shift lever, but you can also access it through the mode selector between the seats. Sport mode through the screen allows for not only tightened shift points, it also sets the steering to a sport setting.
The DSG is a smart transmission, it learns and adapts to how you drive, so the jerkiness I first experienced is hardly ever an issue anymore.
This little beast has Launch Control! Accessed through the infotainment ESC control. I’m loving my Taos.

2024 taos now comes with ventelated seats. Also the DSG transmission is a lot smoother now. It also has the Car-Net app, which is a pretty neat feature. The only thing it's missing is auto break hold, power liftgate and bit less trunk space. If those things does not concern you it's a solid pick otherwise.

You also didn't mention led lights all around with adaptive lightning system, traffic sign detection, rain sensing wipers, wiper's spray nossel warmer, adaptive cruise with stop and go. Really, all this for a 38k CAD msrp, not bad.

I bought the same Taos, (2023 SEL AWD) and really like it. I do notice the delay, (lag) at times which I'm not used to yet. I drove the Taos SE, (without AWD) and found it didn't drive as good as my SEL AWD. There was a rattling like sound in the SE I didn't like. I owned a CR-V before buying my Taos and found the Taos to be better. It is a fun car to drive.

Hello nice review! I just bought my 2023 Taos here in Canada and it came with ventilated seats. Maybe your model didn't have it because of the global shortage? Apparently it's very random and some higher trims can get cheaper because of that.

Bought mine, wish it had a power trunk, sunglasses compartment.. etc. It’s a good car but I find it lacks basic things considering we’re in 2023 lmao

I just bought mine on Saturday and I’m also surprised by the fact there’s no compartment for my sunglasses, otherwise I really enjoy the car.

I had a Tiguan and two Golf’s before getting the Taos, and I was immediately irked by 3 omissions that seem a little penny pinching cost cutting. One is the sunglasses holder in the roof, it probably cost them more to take it out! The 2nd is the little drop down storage container below the headlight switch. That was my favourite cubby. The 3rd is there’s no light in the glovebox, maybe there is on the top trim, very annoying.
Oh, one more.. the overhead driver assist handle that all the other seating positions have. I found it useful in many ways.

I have a 2024 SE in the States with fwd and traditional 8 speed transmission I'm 6"3 and love the vehicle , I do not like the DSG transmission I test drove one and the regular 8 speed is much smoother.

I just bought this exact Taos! Love the red colour. I find driving on curved roads is a bit shaky. Anyone else find that feeling.
