I remember a friend of mine telling me that I "had to get this amazing game that is huge in Japan." I wasn't much into RPG at the time but the way my friend was talking about it I simply had to have it.
I remember going to Sears to get a Gameboy and Pokémon Blue because by friend had Pokémon Red.
The moment I started up the game I was blown away. There were these little characters on the screen jumping around fighting and there was music that went along with the fighting. Then I saw it. "Pokémon Blue Version"
Squirtle was my first Pokémon that I picked because the evolved version was on the cartridge so I figured why not.
The hours I spent playing that game. For the longest time It was the only game I had or needed. I eventually had to use the wall to put my head against because I was tilting my head forward to look down at the screen for hours upon hours.
I'd go over to my friend's house and we would battle and trade Pokémon and give each other tips and tricks to defeat gym leaders or get through caves.
Pokémon Is still one of my favorite series and now I get to share it with my niece by playing it on the Switch. Running around fighting gym leaders. Learning what types defeat other types. Petting the Pokémon and giving them treats. Taking them out of the pokéball and riding around on them or just letting them follow you around.
Sure I can only remember the first 151 Pokémon but there are so many it is amazing how they keep coming up with new ones.

Got chills watching this, it’s so inspiring! I played my first Pokemon game in 1998 and have not missed a single generation. Its still one of my favorite things in life despite being in my 30s. Im now married, and my wife is also obsessed with Pokemon so we play every game together and go on dates collecting Pokemon cards.
I know it might seem ridiculous, but this series has completely touched so many lives and made millions of people happy. I can’t wait to pass this series on to my child.

It's like this with many stuff that become huge. Harry Potter books were rejected serveral times for example. Probably dozens of great stuff gets put in the trash in favor of reboots/sequals to "safe" or "garanteed" profits. Not all dare to trust a new project.

TBH, I grew up when Pokémon first came out long ago in 90s I thought Pikachu was the cutest thing in the world but I never had the money to play the card games so I distanced myself as copium. I love Pikachu the character but I mentally banned myself from anything Pokémon if I can't be like the other kids playing.
HOWEVER, when I learnt that there are Pikachus IRL animals,
I was an adult already, so I bought my first Chinchilla which you can see in my profile pic.
He has already passed on a few years ago at the age of 10.
But it fulfilled my dream from the Pokémon franchise of having a real life Pikachu even though I didn't play the games, card games or watch the anime much.

Your kids will probably grow tired of it considering how repetitive and boring the newer games are, you’re kids would probably find themselves enjoying generation 3,4 and 5 way more then any of the latest garbage Pokémon pumps out. But obviously if there first game is one of the newer games then you’re just going to be accustoming them and getting them used to literal garbage which is never a good thing, they need to be able to distinguish garbage from quality so there best bet is to start in generation 4 through Pokémon platinum, or heartgold and Soulsilver, or Pokémon emerald.

When I was 8, I got my hands on a Game Boy and Pokémon Blue right when it first came out. It was a reward from my mom for finishing my finals. Even though I don't play it much these days, I still hold onto the memories of playing Pokémon during sleepovers, in cars, and with friends. We spent hours on the game, doing things like using rare candy cheats on Cinnabar Island or trying to catch 'missingno.' It was a time when everyone had their cool Pokémon team.
In school, we had secret groups for trading Pokémon cards. I still remember my first Pokémon memory when my aunt gave me three gold spinning coins. It was a game where you spun the coins to do attacks, right when Pokémon was first released.
Pokémon was more than just a personal joy; it was a social thing too. It brought people together, and you could immediately connect with others who loved it. Now that I'm in my 30s, my partner and I have started playing Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, bringing back the good times!

Pokemon had my mind blown but maybe in a different way. When I was younger I got into it starting at 5 years, back in 1999. I don't think any other game hooked me as much as it did for a very long time and only Warcraft 3, League of Legends, Minecraft and Monster Hunter were on similar playtime levels, but those were way later.
At the playtime high of it, a friend heavily recommended me Final Fantasy, so I tried it out and I just couldn't get into it, the turn-based fighting style was nothing for me. And when I reported back to my friend he was confused and surprised and asked me what I mean, Pokemon is also turn-based. I never realized that it is indeed turn-based and I can't exactly say why it's so much fun with Pokemon, but unenjoyable *for me* in other games, but yea, realizing that blew my mind because turn-based games were near the most disliked type of game I had at that time.
