i suspect the mics bad because they went with a retractable mic which none of the black sharks have, so either their using a completely different mic that's designed to be retractable or they lost quality by making it retractable somehow...
Have to agree with most everyone else, the Mic sound output is a downgrade from the Blackshark but the ability to stow it in the headset is a big plus for me as i take my headset on the train with me 2x a week and it's one less thing to break or get snagged on something. I find the Kraken V4 to be more comfortable and almost forget i am wearing it some times which i never felt with the Blackshark. Sound just as good if not a bit better so yup, I am very happy with this one. Thanks for all you do bruv.
I must have gotten a defective unit and mine sounded horrible compared to the Blackshark V2 Pro. Zero bass out of the box and just hollow sounding. Microphone also echoes constantly
One thing I absolutely LOVE about Razer is their volume adjusters don't fuck with the volume of your computer. I was turned off USB headsets for the longest time cause of how loud my volume was at 100%. I had to turn my volume all the way down to 1% just to be able to endure whatever I was listening too and EVEN THEN it was still too loud. Thanks for the review! I'm might grab these bad boys! (Not too worried about the mic quality cause I have a really nice stand alone mic)
dude I hate when headsets control your windows volume. Razers dont do that? I know maxwell does that and turtle beach... and when I had these I couldnt adjust volume while in some games.
I have Kraken v2, and it adjusts windows volume, which is bad, because when I open a new tab in my 1 million tabs browser, my system freezes and theres a loud sound from the video is playing back, but I can't adjust it until the system unfreezes. So it's mildly useful, but I wish it worked properly, without being connected to windows volume.
Do you have any issues with the headset reconnecting when watching youtube videos? Also there can be a bit of lag of the headphones kind of turning on when a sound is played like a discord notification and such.
@@Mark-ns3jo I havent experienced any issues my self, you can use profiles and adjust the equalizer etc for youtube as well to make it like you prefer and it can come off nice if you adjust it how you like it, its not a crazy good headset but maybe thats because I have been used both to these and their old kraken headsets. It may take some customization whenever you want to do a spesific task to enjoy their optimal settings and but also in games you have to choose between competitive accurate sounds vs immersive einviroment with a bit more bloated audio experience. I havent tried expensive headsets but I would say if you dont mind adjusting the settings often you can get a decent value out of these headsets but you will 100% need razer software.
@@Mark-ns3jo yup that issue was very bad when the v3 pros came out. They released a firmware update months after that fixed this. It’s good now but to have it come out buggy like that for months is truly a crime for early buyers.

they always break from those rotation hinges or whatever... no matter if its $10 or 100 they always break, they should have kept those metal and solved design of rotation hinges in metal material, my kraken V3 surely will gonna last long cus I don't feel the need of rotating gaming headphn its not ur usual music phn its for gaming(well since they gave music option I cant say this line)

With a little EQ, this headset actually sounds great. Don't know about the mic since I play single-player but Beneviento's house actually scared me good this time in RE Village. I do feel like $180 is too much, feels like it should be closer to $140/$150. I almost want to exchange them for the X version but I honestly wanted Wireless and THX for my headset. I can live with a wired mouse and keyboard as they're always at a desk, but not having that cable dangling off my head feels nice. Liberating, even.
I bought an Atlas Air and had so many issues with the Swarm 2 software. Heck I couldn't even change settings because it just constantly said my headset needed updating. I would update it and it would still say it over and over. Constantly crashing when I tried to update after successfully updating the very first time. Couldn't get it to work after 3-4 days. So I sent them back. I was thinking about getting the Audeze Maxwell headset. Do you still like those and use those? Are they just too heavy? These look nice but I don't really trust Razer builds. Seen too many new Razer things breaking and especially with plastic.

Bought and returned within 4hrs. Huge disappointment and not just the microphone. I play on PS5 and also have the 2023 Blackshark V2 Pro. These 2 headsets are night and day different. I have a small oval head and the Kraken even on the smallest setting just slide all over the place. First Razer headset to ever do that for me. Secondly is that on the default game EQ there is zero bass compared to the Blackshark. Unless my pair were defective they just sound hollow. The microphone just echoes no matter what I set in Synapse. I mean they feel damn premium for a all plastic build and I love the voice prompts for power on, microphone on/off. However the poor fit, sound and microphone just kill any chance of me keeping them. The Blackshark just sound and feel so much better IMO.

Imo, this is razer's best-looking headset by far. Idk about others but i really like the glossy razer logo with RGB on each cup. It's a real shame about the mic sound quality though, it sounds like an xbox mic.
You're better off with a blackshark by far, this mic quality will get you heavily razzed online. I'm shocked it's so bad. It's like they found a box of old mic capsules from 2010 and were like, eyyy, lets use these.
dont get the Bsv2 pro 2023 its known to be the headset with most complaints in razer subreddit. also it has a constant white noise (shhhh) regardless of whether theres a sound playing or not, n thats the reason im refunding mine

If you don't care about the mic then it seems like a decent headset. My concern is that the foam in the headband doesn't go all the way to the sides. Someone with a larger head like mine likely would feel that and it would dig into your head. Neat, but I think I'll pass.
How do rezer products contunie to get worse year after year. Kraken headphones were know for the big earcups and now thay are removing that? They also used aluminum and now they are using cheap recycled plastic and charging double the price 🤦♂️

Hey Techne, Could we get some more comparisons vs existing similarly priced headsets. For example I have the Blackshark Vs 2023 and I find the bass to be really muddy but the mic and battery are great. I also didn't like the mic mute on the BlackShark's it was very bad.
Currently I have the HS80 headset while not perfect the bass is just enough and clean for music. Mic quality is ok and a visible light is great for me. Unfortunately I got the one's before they added the great battery life. Thanks love your videos.
Some brands need to stop regularly releasing mediocre headsets just get sales. I think SteelSeries is the brand they need to take note of. SteelSeries will release a bunch of headsets in every price range from budget to premium and that’s it for a few years. I used the Arctis Pro Wireless for 4 years until they released their next headsets. I’ve bought the Nova 7 and I’ll be using it till they release their new ones, which probably won’t be another 2-3 years The problem is, there’s only so much you can push the development of the same driver technology and when they release a new headset every year, it will only be a slight improvement, but the prices are getting more expensive There’s no way I’ll pay £180 for this headset that has a terrible mic and I know the sound will also be mediocre or only a slight improvement to the previous one

I had the gen 2 and it snapped in half out of nowhere. I wasn’t rough with them or anything of the sort. I have another turtle beach headset and a week after my 700 snapped, my other turtle beach headphone ear cuff snapped. Never buying turtle beach again
ive used nari ultimates for awhile and i dont see the apeal in these newer models. the nari ultimates have the far superior old earcup design and hypersense. honestly the only bad thing is the mic but i just use a standalone mic i got for like $40.
just get a hyperx wireless headset, i promise everyone, they are honestly the best, cover all fields, corsair or steel series would be a close 2nd option. logitech adjustment sucks unless your getting the G pro or the astro series, if you dont mind listening to a wire rubbing all over the place you can go for a wired headset but thats pointless.

No doubt that a pair of wired hifi headphones will typically sound better than a gaming headset, although I will say that gaming headsets have come a long way since the old days. You can't really beat the convenience of wireless. I have over 20 HiFi headphones and IEMs that I love using for music with my Topping DX9. They're all great for gaming as well, but tbh I find myself reaching for my wireless Arctis Nova Pros when gaming just because the wireless is super convenient. Does it sound better than my wired headphones? No. Are they bad by any means? Not at all.
I have a Phillips fidelio X3 and Skullcandy ANC2 which I really love, but I always keep going for my H6pro Closed. Excellent quality, Excellent weight and comfort.
I precise I do use a pulse elite daily cause of the wireless/simultaneous bluetooth features and because it's a freaking great value considering these are planar magnetic headphones under 150. However, for pure listening or for gaming, I won't use them (Sundara closed back will crush any "gaming headset" in gaming for exemple, and you can find it under 120$ nowadays), so what's the purpose of a 200$ "gaming headset" that has a shitty mic, poor clarity, features you can find on way cheaper headphones and not even the sound quality of a 70$ studio headset ?

honestly its way better then the v3 pro cuz my dongle just broke, called customer support and they say you have to buy a new headset because thy dont sell dongles. So now i use wired + audio and mic connecter because if not the mic wont work, which now causes echo. now the right side of my headset doesn't produce noise because the cord kept getting tangled because of the cord bundler thing. TLDR, dongle broke, customer support didnt help, mic doesn't work, right side doesn't work
They definitely holding it out for the pro version. Perhaps the mic sound quality will be better in pro version which if you ask me kinda scamming the consumers. That blackshark headset was such a good headphone for the price.
That microphone is highly depressing for something new. Sounds worse than the steelseries mics, and that's saying something. It's like they found a random box of mic capsules from 2005 and say, "yooooo, lets use these, no one will notice". Big fail.
I am verry happy razer decided to let go of cooling gel. It's a scam. It gets hot after initial cooling. I dont like wicked cushions for the same reasons. USB C tiny dongle, breathable pads without sweaty fake leatherette.... yeah these might be legit
I'd personally prefer the Blackshark V2 Hyperspeed over this one, because of the 50mm drivers but also the more solid feel and a better mic with custom EQ available, and that swivel is just asking for the earcups to break off at some point which happened to many Logitech G35s. I am personally a fan of 7.1 virtual-surround, and I still own the Logitech G35 7.1 to compare, but the old Dolby from the G35 still sounds more 'direct' than the more roomy but more warm and detailed THX, but then again the G35 were only 40mm drivers which are uncomparable. The THX however seems to need a bit of a wake up time when you re-enable the headset like it needs processing time to activate the channels properly, the G35 does not have that issue. And with THX playing a game while having other sounds in the background seems to mess more with the surround effect like it cancels eachother out which Dolby didn't really experience. Unfortunately it's all THX or DTS now to choose from it seems for these type of headsets and Logitech with locking their pre-amp in newer Logitech Gaming Softwares has ruined, distorted and flattened the feel of the audio of the headsets so the G35 only sounds good with old software. Another problem is that the headset doesn't sound good when Windows is locked as the Synapse software doesn't have high enough access to the operating system to continue operation, something the G35 wasn't concerned about. I've tried my best to recreate the feel of the audio of the G35 as much as possible so I also employed a nearly identical custom EQ which is set to the following: 3-2-1-0-2-4-6-8-10-12 I disabled all the audio enhancements because for example the sound normalisation seems to cause delay in surround audio like it's having hiccups, it was overall not a good experience with THX and that option together enabled. The headset from itself is bassy enough as it is and doesn't need more boosting. The Mic EQ I set to custom with the following settings: 0-0-0-0-0-0-6-12-12-12 Voice gate: 1 Voice Normalisation: 100% Voice Clarity: 100% Mic Noise Cancellation: off Noise cancellation is turned off because it skips detecting vocals too much and the Blackshark has a cover that nullifies most noise because even in a loud office environment I do not need to disable the mic. Sidetone is a weird one because it only seems to work while the mic is in use or opened in Windows Audio Properties, but the Logitech G35 worked regardless at any time. (and for the G35 I only discovered it in 2024 lol) A thing with the THX Surround Audio seems that you must have it all turned on properly before you start a game because I noticed World of Warcraft didn't sound the same if it was enabled while the game was running like sounds were gone missing. Another thing with THX Surround to notice is, if you run a DSP software such as FXSound Audio Enhancer you may have to close the software to make sure the headset is the primary device when you reconnect it so the surround sound emulation is properly activated, then afterwards you can just switch back to the DSP software and let the audio route through that and have no issue. FXSound Audio Enhancer (formerly DFX) is a very very big recommendation though, the fidelity slider of this virtually latency-free software is able to make the high tones sound way more crisper really levelling up your audio device to another level. You would never want to go back to muffled sound again. I would recommend setting the fidelity slider at 5 and the last band of the EQ set to +4 with everything else set to +0 The FXSound Audio Enhancer can also boost your volume beyond the maximum what a device or Windows would allow without distortion, but this is not needed for the headset. The other sliders I would recommend just leaving them be. Another popular software is APO Equalizer which can be used to adjust the EQ of the audio device to your likings, I believe there is a whole list of EQ profiles online that are fine tuned per device to reach their optimal audio quality so it is worth it to take a look into as well. In the end, I think Razer after 15 years finally managed to best the Logitech G35 while Logitech has only been ruining their own audio quality with their software over the years, Razer is playing the right cards and Synapse V3 is actually not a resource hog or bothersome.
Your v3 pro have hipersense, one of the most original headset tecnology in the Word. These v4 don't have that so you should be happy with your purchase.
oh I didn't know the V4 lost the hypersense. but the ear cup swivel is such a big deal for me tho, the mic is pretty shit rn so im still happy with my V3 pro

great review...i was tempting but when you were honest about the mic sounds than meh. LOL...i love wireless headset and really want one with great sounding mic. I'm using the razer blackshark v2 pro...but i don't have the 2023 version...so i have a hard time with my mic...alot of ppl complain about it because on different platforms/games/voicechats etc... voice comes out not the greatest...oh well...ty for another awesome video.

Imo, this is razer's best-looking headset by far. Idk about others but i really like the glossy razer logo with RGB on each cup. It's a real shame about the mic sound quality though, it sounds like an xbox mic.

You're better off with a blackshark by far, this mic quality will get you heavily razzed online. I'm shocked it's so bad. It's like they found a box of old mic capsules from 2010 and were like, eyyy, lets use these.

dont get the Bsv2 pro 2023 its known to be the headset with most complaints in razer subreddit. also it has a constant white noise (shhhh) regardless of whether theres a sound playing or not, n thats the reason im refunding mine

Trying to decide between these and the blacksharks. These sound more appealing as the build quality of the blacksharks seems subpar based off reviews. Has anyone had any issues with the blacksharks?
If you don't care about the mic then it seems like a decent headset. My concern is that the foam in the headband doesn't go all the way to the sides. Someone with a larger head like mine likely would feel that and it would dig into your head. Neat, but I think I'll pass.

Hey Techne, Could we get some more comparisons vs existing similarly priced headsets. For example I have the Blackshark Vs 2023 and I find the bass to be really muddy but the mic and battery are great. I also didn't like the mic mute on the BlackShark's it was very bad.
Currently I have the HS80 headset while not perfect the bass is just enough and clean for music. Mic quality is ok and a visible light is great for me. Unfortunately I got the one's before they added the great battery life. Thanks love your videos.
It seems Razer is doing the same as turtle beach in moving to smaller 40mm drivers. It seems shrinkflation exists in the gaming tech world as well.

Some brands need to stop regularly releasing mediocre headsets just get sales. I think SteelSeries is the brand they need to take note of. SteelSeries will release a bunch of headsets in every price range from budget to premium and that’s it for a few years. I used the Arctis Pro Wireless for 4 years until they released their next headsets. I’ve bought the Nova 7 and I’ll be using it till they release their new ones, which probably won’t be another 2-3 years
The problem is, there’s only so much you can push the development of the same driver technology and when they release a new headset every year, it will only be a slight improvement, but the prices are getting more expensive
There’s no way I’ll pay £180 for this headset that has a terrible mic and I know the sound will also be mediocre or only a slight improvement to the previous one

I had the gen 2 and it snapped in half out of nowhere. I wasn’t rough with them or anything of the sort. I have another turtle beach headset and a week after my 700 snapped, my other turtle beach headphone ear cuff snapped. Never buying turtle beach again

ive used nari ultimates for awhile and i dont see the apeal in these newer models. the nari ultimates have the far superior old earcup design and hypersense. honestly the only bad thing is the mic but i just use a standalone mic i got for like $40.

just get a hyperx wireless headset, i promise everyone, they are honestly the best, cover all fields, corsair or steel series would be a close 2nd option. logitech adjustment sucks unless your getting the G pro or the astro series, if you dont mind listening to a wire rubbing all over the place you can go for a wired headset but thats pointless.

No doubt that a pair of wired hifi headphones will typically sound better than a gaming headset, although I will say that gaming headsets have come a long way since the old days. You can't really beat the convenience of wireless. I have over 20 HiFi headphones and IEMs that I love using for music with my Topping DX9. They're all great for gaming as well, but tbh I find myself reaching for my wireless Arctis Nova Pros when gaming just because the wireless is super convenient. Does it sound better than my wired headphones? No. Are they bad by any means? Not at all.
I love the features, functions and value of gaming headsets all around.
I have a Phillips fidelio X3 and Skullcandy ANC2 which I really love, but I always keep going for my H6pro Closed. Excellent quality, Excellent weight and comfort.
I precise I do use a pulse elite daily cause of the wireless/simultaneous bluetooth features and because it's a freaking great value considering these are planar magnetic headphones under 150. However, for pure listening or for gaming, I won't use them (Sundara closed back will crush any "gaming headset" in gaming for exemple, and you can find it under 120$ nowadays), so what's the purpose of a 200$ "gaming headset" that has a shitty mic, poor clarity, features you can find on way cheaper headphones and not even the sound quality of a 70$ studio headset ?

honestly its way better then the v3 pro cuz my dongle just broke, called customer support and they say you have to buy a new headset because thy dont sell dongles. So now i use wired + audio and mic connecter because if not the mic wont work, which now causes echo. now the right side of my headset doesn't produce noise because the cord kept getting tangled because of the cord bundler thing. TLDR, dongle broke, customer support didnt help, mic doesn't work, right side doesn't work

That microphone is highly depressing for something new. Sounds worse than the steelseries mics, and that's saying something. It's like they found a random box of mic capsules from 2005 and say, "yooooo, lets use these, no one will notice". Big fail.

I'd personally prefer the Blackshark V2 Hyperspeed over this one, because of the 50mm drivers but also the more solid feel and a better mic with custom EQ available, and that swivel is just asking for the earcups to break off at some point which happened to many Logitech G35s.
I am personally a fan of 7.1 virtual-surround, and I still own the Logitech G35 7.1 to compare, but the old Dolby from the G35 still sounds more 'direct' than the more roomy but more warm and detailed THX, but then again the G35 were only 40mm drivers which are uncomparable.
The THX however seems to need a bit of a wake up time when you re-enable the headset like it needs processing time to activate the channels properly, the G35 does not have that issue. And with THX playing a game while having other sounds in the background seems to mess more with the surround effect like it cancels eachother out which Dolby didn't really experience.
Unfortunately it's all THX or DTS now to choose from it seems for these type of headsets and Logitech with locking their pre-amp in newer Logitech Gaming Softwares has ruined, distorted and flattened the feel of the audio of the headsets so the G35 only sounds good with old software.
Another problem is that the headset doesn't sound good when Windows is locked as the Synapse software doesn't have high enough access to the operating system to continue operation, something the G35 wasn't concerned about.
I've tried my best to recreate the feel of the audio of the G35 as much as possible so I also employed a nearly identical custom EQ which is set to the following:

I disabled all the audio enhancements because for example the sound normalisation seems to cause delay in surround audio like it's having hiccups, it was overall not a good experience with THX and that option together enabled. The headset from itself is bassy enough as it is and doesn't need more boosting.
The Mic EQ I set to custom with the following settings:
0-0-0-0-0-0-6-12-12-12
Voice gate: 1
Voice Normalisation: 100%
Voice Clarity: 100%
Mic Noise Cancellation: off
Noise cancellation is turned off because it skips detecting vocals too much and the Blackshark has a cover that nullifies most noise because even in a loud office environment I do not need to disable the mic.
Sidetone is a weird one because it only seems to work while the mic is in use or opened in Windows Audio Properties, but the Logitech G35 worked regardless at any time. (and for the G35 I only discovered it in 2024 lol)
A thing with the THX Surround Audio seems that you must have it all turned on properly before you start a game because I noticed World of Warcraft didn't sound the same if it was enabled while the game was running like sounds were gone missing.
Another thing with THX Surround to notice is, if you run a DSP software such as FXSound Audio Enhancer you may have to close the software to make sure the headset is the primary device when you reconnect it so the surround sound emulation is properly activated, then afterwards you can just switch back to the DSP software and let the audio route through that and have no issue.
FXSound Audio Enhancer (formerly DFX) is a very very big recommendation though, the fidelity slider of this virtually latency-free software is able to make the high tones sound way more crisper really levelling up your audio device to another level. You would never want to go back to muffled sound again.
I would recommend setting the fidelity slider at 5 and the last band of the EQ set to +4 with everything else set to +0
The FXSound Audio Enhancer can also boost your volume beyond the maximum what a device or Windows would allow without distortion, but this is not needed for the headset. The other sliders I would recommend just leaving them be.
Another popular software is APO Equalizer which can be used to adjust the EQ of the audio device to your likings, I believe there is a whole list of EQ profiles online that are fine tuned per device to reach their optimal audio quality so it is worth it to take a look into as well.
In the end, I think Razer after 15 years finally managed to best the Logitech G35 while Logitech has only been ruining their own audio quality with their software over the years, Razer is playing the right cards and Synapse V3 is actually not a resource hog or bothersome.
