One of their most beautiful, yet least played songs. This is Jimmy at his best, the guitar sounds so delicate yet haunting. One of my favorite songs from them.

Just discovered this song. I've always had respect for a band that I see to be a group of elite musicians only. All of them. Since I'm here and have found a few common traits with zeppelin and my favorite band of all time, I've got to ask, have any of you folks who have an ear for the good stuff ever listen to The Mars Volta? I strongly urge all of you to look into those guys. They too have a world class musician on every instrument, and didn't compromise. Also, much of their music being extraordinarily beautiful
In 1973 my cousins from Fla visited us in Chicago. They gave us their 8 track of Zep III, probably my most listened to album. “Since I’ve been”…nudged be to become a blues guitarist. Thank you Jimmy
I was in the 6th grade back in 1977 in Michigan, stumbled upon my older sister's record collection . . . Amboy Dukes, Led Zeppelin , etc. Amazed by the album covers of her collection, started placing the vinyl on the turntable, plugged in the oversized headphones into the hifi . . . sat in the wooden rocker in the living room, and listened to the Zeppelin albums over and over and over and over . . . . this song reminds me of that particular moment. 56 now, and Led Zeppelin has always been my favorite band over all these years, my "goto".
I think back to my teenage years when I first heard this song. Times of happiness, anger, sadness and loss. Memories of events from nearly 20 years ago and they are fresh in my mind when I hear this song. That's the way it oughta be I suppose.
One of their most beautiful, yet least played songs. This is Jimmy at his best, the guitar sounds so delicate yet haunting. One of my favorite songs from them.
Not forgetting JPJ please, they worked so beautifully together... the whole band did.

You're gonna let your hair hang down

You're in the darker side of town
And when I'm out I see you walking
Why don't your eyes see me
Could it be you've found another game to play,
What did mama say to me
That's the way,
Oh, that's the way it ought to be,
Mama say that's the way it ought to stay, yeah, yeah oh oh
And yesterday I saw you standing by the river,
And weren't those tears that filled your eyes,
And all the fish that lay in dirty water dying,
Had they got you hypnotized?
And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers,
But all that lives is born to die
And so I say to you that nothing really matters,
And all you do is stand and cry
I don't know what to say about it,
When all you ears have turned away,
But now's the time to look and look again at what you see,
Is that the way it ought to stay?
That's the way
That's the way it oughtta be
Oh don't you know now

The one and only Led Zeppelin. When this egg was hatched, the mold was thrown away. Mama said that's the way it's gonna be.
Love this song, the melody, the message, so incredibly poignant...........
This song makes me think of my younger days and family who's gone now. Miss you all😥🙏
uh huh uh huh i like it
Just discovered this song.
This must be a remaster. The audio is so crisp, I'm hearing guitar tones I never heard before.
no this is the original version
bits of Pedal Steel layered?
In 1973 my cousins from Fla visited us in Chicago. They gave us their 8 track of Zep III, probably my most listened to album. “Since I’ve been”…nudged be to become a blues guitarist. Thank you Jimmy
Such a beautiful acoustic arrangement and voicings! I love Led Zeppelin, Jimmy, Robert, John Paul and especially John Bonham!
I've never listened to this album from start to finish before, what an experience!
Love the reverse reverb at the beginning of the guitar outro.
Their most down to earth song. Brilliant.
This, and The Rain Song; the only two LZ song's worth a true damn.
a lot of Zep tunes move me but nothing like this one does. An absolute masterpiece.
greatest rock band with the greatest front man of all time
I think back to my teenage years when I first heard this song. Times of happiness, anger, sadness and loss. Memories of events from nearly 20 years ago and they are fresh in my mind when I hear this song. That's the way it oughta be I suppose.
Biggest gut punch soul wrenching beauty ive ever known. God bless all of you!
They are the definition of rock and roll my favorite song by led zeppelin greatest band in the world
This song is transcendental ❤ It's haunting yet satisfies that playful presence all the way to the end.
My fur baby passed away today. My sweet Laura this is for you
Sadest day...
So difficult....maybe impossible....remember the times and smile. Even cry sometimes.
I so wish I could help ...
I really feel bad for you. 29 years ago. I saw a female cat named. Squeaky die of feline leukemia. She was gray chartreax cat.
