    This country lacks consequences. Right down to the point of not being to smack your child. Children are not afraid to push boundaries, so they continue until something like this happens. Teachers have no power and the police have very little compared to when I was a child. I was brought up to respect adults and people who had authority such as teachers and police. This country has gone to the dogs.

    • @katrinasandison

      Actually I dont think you have to smack a child to get the point across. Youre assulting something smaller than you for a power trip and thats sick.
      Also I agree kids dont have much control, but when in history have they?
      Dont smack kids maybe spend some time with them and teach them whats wrong and right? In no court in england would your punishment for a crime be that you get beat. So I really dont understand why parents resort to assaulting their kids? Like chances are this kid was BEAT by his parents and neglected and this is why this happened, lack of family, community and teaching.

      Kids that got smacked by their parents generally went on to fare worse in life socially compared to ones who had parents who disciplined them verbally. Hitting a child actually is more likely to cause them to be violent. The more relevant issue is neglect. Parents these days neither spank nor verbally discipline or support their child. Couple the lack of parental support with the lack of positive public role models and a rather hopeless society/economy and these things are to be expected.

  • @Daveyboy4
    @Daveyboy4 ปีที่แล้ว +139

    When I was growing up it wasn't uncommon for all the boys to have pockets knives, sharp ones too. There were lots of fights but never ever did anyone ever think of pulling that knife, because the beating you'd get from the teachers, then the headmistress (that women knew how to turn boys into men) and then your parents for even considering using a knife would be enough to put you off. The ONLY thing the government could do to 'protect the staff' is force them to actually discipline children again and give them powers to do so. Considering the teaching profession is largely made up of snowflake liberals who believe children should dictate everything, such an attempt to make them safer would ironically be met with strong opposition. Not too dissimilar to how people cry out for safer streets but refuse to support stop and search etc

      @@fin183 It can be one way or the other; why assume either one though? (not saying your are doing this in particular) some teachers can be evil and some kids can be too.
      There are situations where a child may be unable to tell a parent about abuse, they might feel ashamed, have bad parents, feel that there is no resolution or have severe mental issues; if a victim doesn't speak up but retaliates against the abuser then that doesn't absolve the abuser of their wrongdoing, to believe this would be like victim blaming.
      No one wants to approach it with any nuance though, as seen in the comments; virtue signalling and using it as an opportunity to lash out and call for harsher punishments and more power to teachers, which isn't really going to prevent this, might even make things worse.

    I was at school in the '50s and early '60s - the cane was used from time-to-time on unruly boys, but never on girls. It was effective - detentions were given for minor offences, but the threat of caning kept majority of us boys in order. It's certainly the parents' responsibility to teach discipline to their children, but how many do?

    Students shouldn't fear teachers but there's an increasing lack of respect towards people of all positions of authority. Violence and extreme violence is all too often seen. Key shift in society is that everybody seems to know thier rights but few seem to accept responsibility. A minority of kids tell teachers what they can and can't do or say to them yet fail to appreciate that they have a responsibility to try hard and learn at school and that means not disrupting others' learning.
