If they won they wheeled in the boat and if they lost they wheeled in the other prize. They actually admitted to doing this in a documentary.

Bowen was trying to reassure them by saying its worth a fortune, its worth a fortune. On the secondhand market they would probably have been struggling to have got more than a £1000 for it in todays money.
