A bit more gold light fixtures (the one on the ceiling doesn't fit - maybe a chandelier?), vintage mirrors and art would have been great. I love the dark green paint - but would have been hesitant in painting doors, windowsill and baseboards too. I personally didn't like the wallpaper, but maybe it just didn't look good on camera. I also would have tried to find antique furniture that fits - preferably in a mid tone/lighter wood to bring in warmth.
I enjoy watching your channel. This is definitely going to be a love or hate design. Personally not my favorite but appreciate you trying something different.
I honestly don't know what you all are banging on about. It makes way, way more sense to take the wall colour up to the ceiling than it does to paint the small-ish ceiling space a different colour. It's a no-brainer. That's a seriously gorgeous colour btw. I am currently nearing the end of my tiny house build and I fully intend to paint my little "dollhouse" in the same way.
Love those walls! Personally I'd wanna stain the light wood items to match the sidetables - but I also tend to lean dark in my decor style. Definitely love these darker, moodier makeovers lately. Well done!
The color is gorgeous, but as someone who painted a deep purple and dark rich red rooms once I had to paint over them…..I cried 😂 I was so freaking crazy as a teen, never will do an entire room dark again but OMG I love this color.
For me, everything looks good up until she added the light wood coat hangers, bench, and baskets. I feel like they do not compliment the dark academia mood she's aiming for. ☹️ I understand the need to mix up styles to prevent it from being boring. But I feel like adding boho/rustic items are a bit underwhelming if you're trying to achieve elegant/moody vibes.
Early in this video Danie says "We are going OG Farmhouse". She got "Dark and Moody Academia". I watched Danie's channel master makeover and Alexandra's channel makeover of the guest room, and while the dark and moody is a change for Alex, it doesn't go with the rest of Danie's house, strikingly so.

It's beautiful! The only thing I would change is the overhead light. It's definitely better than the original, but it's not what I would have picked. I feel like it was an opportunity lost. Love love love the paint color! 🤩
Totally agree, came to the comments section looking for this comment. Could have been a statement but I think she planned to bring something else - on the mood board she had that sort of sun shaped light - maybe it didn’t arrive on time or something
@@xDenituUx honestly, if I was told I could stay in this room or Dani's new master bedroom (the other video), I'd choose this one. I like dark and moody... it's very comfy and cozy to me. (For context, my bedroom is a dark purple with blonde wood trim.) The light and airy "boho" rooms are pretty but I would not want to live in them.
@@katherinechu4581 Oh... that makes sense. I was surprised AG did not focus on the light especially when Dani pointed out the badness of the original light.
The room's colour scheme is so soothing and the vibe is very elegant with the beautiful wallpaper. The rich dark colour also made the room look larger. The room was executed very straightforward, which gave me lots of confidence to do this myself.
Oh my god, I absolutely loooove how this space turned out! I trusted your vision and the painted ceiling looks sooo good, such a cozy, moody room. And yeah, there's deffinitely an English vibe to it! Great job!
The colour of the paint + the wallpaper was such a stunning combo!!! The room turned out interesting, beautiful, and unique. Perfect for a guest bedroom experience
I think it's kinda like they used to say in What Not To Wear... it doesn't have to match, it just has to go! I think the different shades of green work together quite well. But then it's a question of personal taste as well! Not everyone will like that chair color, for sure... xD I love it, but I'm aware it would be controversial to many. lol
It’s a little off, especially with the striped bed linen. A more dark academia choice would have been either a purple velvet or cognac leather arm chair. (In fact none of the furniture, bench, bedside tables or armchair scream farmhouse/vintage/dark academia to me, it’s actually quite mid century which clashes with the theme). I mean it looks fine, it’s just a little too mix and match for my taste.
Agreed. Too much stuff going on, and with a room that has such low ceilings it just makes it seem dark and lacking daylight... Plus too many different things together. It is better than I expected when I saw here putting everything together, but still not wow.
I don't like any of it, no hate I'm not a fan of AG I came to see it because I love Danie work, this really doesn't fit her home, I wish I knew what the old colour was

Hi, Alexandra! I don’t normally comment but after seeing a surprising number of negative comments so early after posting I wanted to say I really appreciate you trying a new style! Your commenters are always pushing you to do something different and this is definitely it and super trendy right now. It’s true that it doesn’t go with the rest of danie’s house but she was happy with the result and called it a getaway so I don’t think viewers need to get hung up on the statement of the room. It’s great to see you challenging yourself and becoming a more diverse designer! Experimentation is key to any creative journey.
I don’t think people are being negative as they are just not agreeing with some of her choices and have different opinions, of which they are entitled to. Many of the “negative comments” also compliment her trying something new. But people are allowed to not like something or agree with a design choice and not be a “hater.”
@@hannahjacobs1014 I have definitely seen some very negative and downright rude comments in the comment section, I think people are entitled to their opinion but you don't always have to be so rude. You can be constructive without being mean!
@@hannahjacobs1014 I watched the video within 20 min of posting and at that point around half of the comments were negative, and not all were constructive. Quite a few commented specifically on not being happy that she did a different style. I’m supportive of constructive criticism but if half the comments on your video are telling you they don’t like what you posted sometimes even the helpful criticism can burn a bit, so I offered a bit of support. I don’t know if Alexandra reads her comments that early on but in case she did I wanted her to know her efforts were appreciated. Thankfully they comments have turned more positive and constructive since then.
This. Is. So. Gorgeous! At first I thought painting the whole room in such a dark colour would "strike it dead" (literally translated from german), I love dark colours and am thus very positively surprised that it works so fantastically! I love the entire style of this room with its little antiques and the cushy chair and the bold wallpaper! Thank you so much for sharing this!
I love it! I feel like guest bedrooms are the best rooms to experiment because you don't have to look at it every day if you don't want to. More dark academia please! It's been my favorite style
Hey Girl! I love that you're evolving and incorporating design styles outside of what you;d usually be comfortable with, but this top-to-toe colour wasn't for me, mainly because this was in complete contrast to how DiY Danie had designed her own house - light and airy. So I felt there was a lack of cohesion/flow there. That being said, the elements of the design were gorgeous, just maybe in another house...with much higher ceilings! xx
I also felt like she didn’t take Danie’s style into consideration and you can hear how apprehensive she is. Especially in such a small space, this makes it seem even smaller.
I don’t usually comment, but you are growing so much! I feel unqualified to say that since I am NOT a classically trained decorator but I do decorate my home and I am a mom and watching you, and Danie, grow in your craft makes me so happy! Congratulations to you both!
We were introduced t Audible when my husband was diagnosed with ALS. He could pull up a book on his device-assisted computer. Audible was a Godsend then and I am still using it today to listen to books while driving, etc.
You and Danie both had amazing makeovers posted today. I love how you’ve branching out and trying whole new atmospheres. This is not at all my taste and yet I love it. The wallpaper makes it outstanding but the whole room is lovely. Hope you and Danie will collaborate again. It’s fun to see both of you in a video
Love the dark, moody academia makeover. The floral wallpaper was definitely an inspired touch, and I love how you complemented everything with the vintage accessories like the lanterns, books, and pictures.
Love this look and that you got to play with a style we don’t see as often. The color is absolutely beautiful and something that I would’ve been to scared to try without seeing the finished look. Beautiful!
I LOVE the stunning dark academia style mixed with the cottage/farmhouse style. It is what I have been trying to do in my house. I love the use of antique and vintage furniture.... especially since I am trying to reuse old furniture, instead of getting new furniture, so i don't hurt our environment . I would LOVE to see you incorporate Dark Academia, Farmhouse, French Country, English Cottage and Shabby Chic styles in your makeovers. AS I love to comfortable, old world and green vibe they give to a room/home. Stunning makeover which I will use as inspiration in my own little Australian cottage. Thank you Alexandra Janelle (Warrandyte, Australia)
I absolutely love this room. Who knew I liked dark academia? And yay you for going outside your comfort zone. Ignore the negative comments. People struggle with change. This room has such a great feel to it. Perfect.
I really love the dark rooms that have been featured on your channel. I think this and the one you did for your staff's studio apartment have been my favorite by far.
I LOVE DARK ACADEMIA!!!! And honestly, I'm so impressed with how this came out considering it's so far from Alexandra's own style! Also, that colour is EVERYTHING
Alexandra, I love how you went out of your comfort zone on this! I think your channel is so inspiring not just because of the cool design ideas you put together but also just how you are brave and bold enough to try something new. Makes me want to do the same ❤️
What is so great about an upstairs attic-style nook of a room is the washy light that happens when you're closer to the sky. The dark green just demolishes any hopes for feeling like you are up and away. I love the color and the boldness but not for an attic room. In my opinion it's way too heavy and bold for a space that should feel like a cream puff. But I do love that chair!
First time disappointed 😞. In my opinion, I think you missed the mark on that "old lady" wall paper and also that "country hanging wall rack". Neither one goes with the "Dark Academia " theme much less "farmhouse " vibe. IMO, a rich, textured wall paper for headboard and wall rack in brass or darker wood, maybe with metal hooks, would have been more cohesive with the rest of your design 🤔
agreed - and I wish all of the various wood tones tried to match the dark and moody vibe! I think the space could've looked a lot better if the end table wood tone was repeated throughout the room. I am in love with the paint color though.
Loving the dark academia vibes! As much as I love boho, it's so great to see you branching out into other decor styles. I'd love to see you do a vintage-eclectic makeover.
I’m with Danie. I don’t love the doors and ceiling being green. It’s overbearing. It would look good with a warm wood accented ceiling :) Nice decor choices though!

She posted 3 weeks ago that she loved the fact that the room is moody. Sometimes people want something really different than the rest of the rooms especially in a room that won't be used all the time (it's a guest room) so she tried something really different there.
I loved this Alexandra. You’re right, it’s really different from your usual style, but that’s what I love about it! It does have a moodiness, and I like how the wall colour doesn’t make the room look dark. This makeover is beautiful!
@@AlexandraGater it’s full of kerosene, it is a fire hazard. They are lovely and easy on the eyes. But they are not bookends. You can find old kerosene lamps made into electric lamps. That wallpaper - wow! Love how it turned out! Granted, if her guests use CPAP machines (like she mentioned) they're going to prob want to move the actual kerosene lamp. Those hoses are sturdy & can knock things over.
Was so thankful that there was no pink with pom-poms, however, the opposite end of the spectrum didn't work either. Sorry....it just doesn't match the rest of Danie & Geoff's house. Kudos to you for trying something different, but, in the space, it just doesn't work.
HI! I'm from Danie's channel. Had to see how the guest bedroom turned out and its so awesome. I'm so glad you went with the color on the walls. Even though its a darker color than I ever would have picked it works so well. Especially wrapping the entire room in that color. Its crazy but all I see is the furniture and the accessories. Everything else just blends into the background. And that wall paper! GIRL! Spot on! And yes I'll be following you from now on as well as Danie. Double the fun on my Saturdays! Woot woot!
It doesn't flow with what Danie has going on in the rest of the house. Color is too dark. Made the space smaller. Some of the decor pieces didn't go together in my opinion 🤷♀️
Helloooo!!! I know this is an old video, but I have been seeing this all over color trend; ceiling and all, for quite some time, and I am a huge fan!!! I am only about 10 minutes into the video, but in the images I’ve seen where this is done, I feel like the rooms always look bigger and more modern and very in the “now”!! I haven’t seen anything even close to the end result yet, but I think you made a fantastic choice with the bold, all over color!! My husband and I are getting ready to move into our own very first home, and I can not WAIT to play with color and not have to be accountable to anyone but myself for the first time ever!! We have been renting the same single family house for 17 years and our landlord has been very strict and no fun at all. The best part about what you’re doing, is that if you’re not in love with it, it’s just paint and very easily can be changed back to anything you want at any time!! Have fun and experiment with color! I can not WAIT to see how this transforms your guest bedroom!!! -Nora
I REALLY loved this vibe! Perfect for a guest room. Not something I'd want for my everyday bedroom, but I think this would be the perfect place to come hideaway in the middle of the day with some tea and a good book. Maybe take a nap? I love trying to mix and match patterns! It's a "taboo" I love proving wrong and this did that in all the right ways! The very faint stripes against the dark floral was soft and airy. Perfection!!! Well done ❤️❤️🌹❤️

absolutely, I also feel the chair was more retro 60's/70's. But it still looks great and its cool to see something new!
I feel like everything still looks beautiful but it’s just not the “dark academia” I was expecting in the end.
Yeah, agreed. Maybe Danni's trepidation made her second guess herself and try to "salvage" the space with lighter accents.
I think she mist a great opportunity to get some of those library green table lamps for the stands....Screams Dark Academia to me
Staining them would work, in a darker, warmer brown.
I think that was the point of it, for it to be really different.

Right? I feel like she asked for farm house and got something else, like Alexandra didn't really listen to what Daniele wanted n designed the room she felt like doing.
Please do more rooms like this. This is exactly my aesthetic and I can't find any good videos with this vibe.

My thoughts exactly!!
Lone fox dining room makeover
@@juicebox333 I've seen that one and loved it. Hes probably one of the youtube channels that's closest to my aesthetic and what I want in my house.
Maybe houseofvalentina could be interesting for you! 😉
Honestly I feel like this fits the house perfectly. It’s old and new all at the same time!
And the trim, I would've kept every trim white. It's sooo dark. I don't like it that much.
@@xDenituUx honestly, if I was told I could stay in this room or Dani's new master bedroom (the other video), I'd choose this one. I like dark and moody... it's very comfy and cozy to me. (For context, my bedroom is a dark purple with blonde wood trim.)
The light and airy "boho" rooms are pretty but I would not want to live in them.
@@katherinechu4581 Oh... that makes sense. I was surprised AG did not focus on the light especially when Dani pointed out the badness of the original light.
Totally agree with you on the overhead light. It stands out, and not for good reasons.
Maybe I have no vision, but don't get how the color of the wall, wallpaper color & chair color correspond.
I think maybe a leather chair could work well
I think it's kinda like they used to say in What Not To Wear... it doesn't have to match, it just has to go!
I don't like any of it, no hate I'm not a fan of AG I came to see it because I love Danie work, this really doesn't fit her home,
I wish I knew what the old colour was
You guys seem like such good friends, so I’m surprised you seem so far from her style. It sounded like you were more concerned about implementing a certain look rather than designing something specific to her and the flow of her home.

@@sandieedward8214 beautifully interpreted. Put thus way....HELL YES!!!!
@@kayla-uy9eb ok.... but most arent. And that was the point.
I totally agree!
its so nice to have one dark room when the rest of the house is bright. especially so stylish and well done!
That being said, the elements of the design were gorgeous, just maybe in another house...with much higher ceilings! xx
Ya, it doesn't match Danie's vibe at all. I thought it was somewhat disrespectful.
I also felt like she didn’t take Danie’s style into consideration and you can hear how apprehensive she is. Especially in such a small space, this makes it seem even smaller.
The room has this victorian era vibe to it. I love that you kept the original wide plank flooring.
I don’t usually comment, but you are growing so much! I feel unqualified to say that since I am NOT a classically trained decorator but I do decorate my home and I am a mom and watching you, and Danie, grow in your craft makes me so happy! Congratulations to you both!
Neither one of them are classically trained decorators.
@@lynnconroy8 so?
Yees, they have grown so much!
We were introduced t Audible when my husband was diagnosed with ALS. He could pull up a book on his device-assisted computer. Audible was a Godsend then and I am still using it today to listen to books while driving, etc.
It’s elegant AND cozy - a difficult combo to pull off. Beautiful!
Beautiful!
One of my fave makeovers of yours so far, tbh I was getting bored of beige and pink, so yes please more different looks like this 😍❤
I LOVE the stunning dark academia style mixed with the cottage/farmhouse style.
Thank you Alexandra
Janelle (Warrandyte, Australia)
I was so happy that there was no green lead paint on the floor if this room too! Yay OG floors!
I absolutely love this room. Who knew I liked dark academia? And yay you for going outside your comfort zone. Ignore the negative comments. People struggle with change. This room has such a great feel to it. Perfect.
This was excellent. I always love seeing you two together
Really well done. Nice use of darker and more moody tones. Well balanced. Love the addition of the hobnail lamp.
I was JUST creating a dark and moody pintrist board! I’m considering a similar “dark green”/bluish wall. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Danie needed this, she always paint EVERYTHING white!
Hmm,maybe because that’s her preference 🤔
This room just screams for a fun statement light that casts gorgeous, if not slightly eerie shadows across the ceiling to complete the whole vibe.
I think this room turned out beautiful, which surprised me because I don't like dark walls. Nice job!! God Bless!!

Beautiful! Although, I’m leery of the Kerosene lamp in such a tight space considering the sleeping equipment needs of those that will utilize the space.
By far my favourite space you’ve done yet
I’ll always love all the pinks and bright colors, but damn, this room is gorgeous 😍
I LOVE this room! I wish more people were brave enough to have design choices like this
This is a really beautiful room that’s 1000% up my lane but I feel like it rly doesn’t fit well with the way the rest of danie’s house is decorated
Was to Escape Stress or people...

This is SUCH a vibe. I love this so much!!!!
Another fabulous make ovrr.......love the green, daring choice. Love the really long look at end......IT helps when there’s an idea you like and you want a really good look.....
This is the dark-academia-inspired room of my dreams! I love it!
PLEASE do more of this. 10/10 love that velvet chair and paint color. Definitely need something more than boho.
Everyone in the comments is loving it and I’m here like “nope...” 😂
I see ooodles of criticism. I like what they're calling "dark academia" and it can even work mixed with boho, but this room was a master class in how to get each aspect wrong.
Hideous right? I'd kill somebody who did that to my walls and I had to paint 5 coats over it. Who the hell wants dark and moody?
@@anneporter123 I mean ‘dark and moody’ is fine but... the execution of it was just not it for me ://
@@fthurman yes, the execution just wasn’t it for me
before i even watch anymore i had to pause and say WOW THOSE FLOORS. holy moly they are gorgeous, who the hell would have covered them?! and second thing i wanna mention...that mood board is everything. its so different than your usual style. and while i love your usual style, i love this so much. The dark, moody old school style is really gorgeous. good choice! and so fits Danie!
I don’t think that dark color goes with Danie, shes been doing airy for the whole house :/ I can see her changing the color in the future.
Oh i really hope she does. It turned out to be an okay room BUT nothing like those really awesome Danie styled rooms. Pls danie turn this room whenever you feel like 😬
I tnink it became claustrophobic. 😢
She posted 3 weeks ago that she loved the fact that the room is moody. Sometimes people want something really different than the rest of the rooms especially in a room that won't be used all the time (it's a guest room) so she tried something really different there.
I wouldn't want to stay in the room. Good it is for sleeping.
I loved this Alexandra. You’re right, it’s really different from your usual style, but that’s what I love about it! It does have a moodiness, and I like how the wall colour doesn’t make the room look dark. This makeover is beautiful!
If anyone ever lights those kerosene lamps they will SET FIRE to the sloping wall! Trust me. Did that with a candle when I was a teenager 🔥😲
I agree very fire hazard 🔥
It’s just for decor 🥰
@@AlexandraGater it’s full of kerosene, it is a fire hazard. They are lovely and easy on the eyes. But they are not bookends. You can find old kerosene lamps made into electric lamps. Probably a little out of budget. Over time the eye will pick up that the wall paper pattern isn’t matched. There again probably not in the budget. I do like the foundation you set for the room. Dani can change up little bits over time, that’s a big plus in decorating. Congrats.
@@ellenfrances1303 oh good grief. I grew up with kerasine lamps. That is all we had. Turn wick down low and no problem. You are looking for things to complain about
@@ellenfrances1303 Don't risk it! Fill that puppy with colored water and don't ever use it. This room will be used by guests and you don't know if they have familiarity with this type of lamp. If lit, and knocked over, it will be a tragedy.
Even though I'm not in love with some of the design decisions made in the room, AG trying something new takes the cake for me. Good job stepping out of your comfort zone!
LOVE this vibe!! It looks incredible! I’ve always loved your makeovers but I used to think it was a little boring that they were always the same style/vibe (pink, pom poms, pampas, etc) so it is super refreshing and interesting to see you branching out! Love love love that
Same feelings !
Truly a welcoming oasis that will make guests feel oh so special‼️👍🥰
Love the "thought" features because it's a guest room... the bench to open a suitcase on, a basket of bath towels, a place to hang things, plenty of nightstand room, nightstand lights. All so appreciated by us overnight guests❗👍🤩 🥰
Alexandra, I feel like you lvled up. Amazing job!!
This was really cool! I’d love to see the AG take on more styles.
I love the Dark Academia look. I may have to find a room in my home for this .
I love this color. Moody in the best way but cozy too. I like the departure from the normal pink and neutrals.
This room is gorgeous! There's finally a way to describe my style! I have this eclectic mix of antique and modern and gothic and sweet, and I think this sums it up perfect! "Dark Academia" 😊
Alex, I'm a real fan of yours redecors! Every single video is exceptional! Passion, style, and sofistication are detailed in yours projects. Lovely,! I still forwarding them to my friends, that are enchanting w your work! Hugs from Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷 😘💙
I just don't get why did you paint the lower part of the wall only to fully wallpaper it? Waste of time and paint. But I really like the room!
I guess incase there were any gaps between (which there are), they wouldnt stand out as much
I was wondering the reason for doing that as well.
Maybe the wallpaper was late in getting to them? Painted just in case.
I think the wallpaper was a surprise for Danie.
Maybe they changed their minds after the fact? They were like, “oh god, this looks too dark and bland. Let’s do an accent wall!”
Okay....this is in my top five of the spaces. Right now just my FAVORITE!!
I love your style and aesthetics and also love Danie's, so I was so surprised that you came up with this color for such a small space I personally think that it doesn't go with the rest of her house so ligbt an airy, but hey, that's judt what I think. Love you both girls.
Alexandra,
❤️❤️ the blue/green color on the walls, as well as the floor reveal! 👩🏻🍳🤗
That wallpaper - wow! Love how it turned out!
Granted, if her guests use CPAP machines (like she mentioned) they're going to prob want to move the actual kerosene lamp. Those hoses are sturdy & can knock things over.
I loved this collab!! and the room turned out romantically dark.... love
I bet 100$ In couple months she will redo it
You absolutely right btw lmao
Wow! Alexandra this was an amazing makeover. You surprise me every time. Great job.
Where did those overalls come from?? I need them!
-Nora
While I do like the room I feel it doesn’t go with the rest of her house
I think a guest room is a great place to break from a whole-house theme.
I agree, also the color is super dark for a small space like that.
