I ran those 2.3 fords in my tube chassis race car for a long time. They were very reliable. I used to turn the engine 8200 on the regular, with the cast crank. I ran the same crank for 15 years and it was still in the car when I sold it.
Had the same engine in my '78 Pinto...cast iron everything...bomb proof little engines
if it wasn't Ford's habit of replacing engines (anyone remember when the OHC 4.6 litre was enough for a GT, a Mach I, a Bullitt and a Saleen? now no one cares about 'em and runs to the Coyote) they'd still be using this bread and butter engine--probably a DOHC one based off the Volvo swap.
Be nice if comments could be left and not disappear from a commercial break. I built 2.3s using Turbocoupe internals minus the cam and pistons.
@@vaultofC3042 There has been so many upgrades to this little jewel, one can hot rod from a well stocked junkyard. roller rocker arms from rangers, coil plug setups, dual spark plug heads, and there's even a DOHC Volvo head swap. If one can, one should start with the turbo blocks, their nickel content is higher. supposedly, a 2.5 litre crank swap doesn't provide much in the way of increased performance, but even the stock connecting rods are good for 7,000 rpm (there used to be a 310 cid V8 stroker swap for the 302 using these connecting rods and an offset ground crank). and yeah, the classsic A 234 cam is the way to go for a street rebuild.

When my mom died in Jan 90 I got a large insurance payout I took a year off bought a 90 lx 5.0 drove around the united states like I always wanted to do was gone for 9 months before returning home to Cincinnati , this brought back memories , with the car except mine was new I had no problems not even warranty ones great car would eat up interstate like pacman
You two are a hoot you managed to entertain us with a tweaker mustang on a road trip and to hit that big of a deer and nobody was hurt and the tweaktang took a hit and still made it home. Thanks for the much needed entertainment God bless and as always be safe.

New subsriber here. I had a 93 red 4 cylinder a while back was the exact same but with auto transmission. Head gasket went in it to lol. Great video hope to see more :) at the moment I have a 74 mustang ghia 2.8 ltr v6 auto transmission white vinyl top and dark blue in color next to no rust bought it off the original owner in 2019 nice driving car. My twin brother had a 75 hatchback as well.

I bought them new. So I know all about fox body stangs. Also that 2.3 worthless 90hp engine 😂 Lights easy to fix. Take a drill and drill 2 holes bottom of the light. Works always
You guys could of used a roll of helicopter tape.
I can't live with out a roll of that. The military uses it to cover the leading edge of the helicopter rotary wings. It's a clear tape thats stiff, tough and sticks like a rat glue trap. And is perfect for holding broken headlights/turn signal housings in place. 20 feet away you won't even see that it's taped on there. Nascar teams use it to cover Naca ducts. For aerodynamic reasons. It's also called racers tape. Sold on amazon.

Kansas borders Colorado and I can tell you from first hand exp. you can tell when you leave Colorado and cross into Kansas. Co. is a run down shithole and Kansas is a thriving economy. Co. small towns are all run down but i'll be damned if they don't have a brand new Weed Dispensary in every town. Cross over to Kansas and small town are nice and neat and you actually see people there. So the Kansas Police are probably used to dealing with those Co. people on the regular. Something caused by the Liberal Colorado Govt. When we go east we take the Northern route and miss all the liberal states. It's bad enough here in Orygun, I don't need to exp. other shithole states on Vacation.
I once hit a big deer at 65 miles an hr with a 2000 Dodge Neon, it looked from my point behind the wheel like NASCAR, she hit the hood, and went flying off in the air likeshe was a star in Twister, my poor Neon didnt fair much better. i know how this feels.

You may have the same amount of money in it when finished as you would if you bought one in pristine condition in the first place. For example I had seen something on marketplace that needed some work and peaked my interest, I showed a buddy and told him im going to get it and fix it up. He said i know where ones at in great shape i can probably get for the same price maybe cheaper. I wasnt interested in it, theres something about putting your own hands on it, your own sweat and tears while wrenching on it that cant be bought.

You ever run into any Turbocoupes sitting out there??? Great platform for a hotrod. Surprised it didn't have the rubber rims on it. If I remember right they were 13 inch wheels. A 5 liter swap would have made a cool video. The idle sounds like a vacuum leak or its running full lean or rich from a bad water temp sensor. Haha remember where the movie Convoy started was New Mexico lol A buddy of mine may have a SVO turbo engine he had up for sale. Computer and all the harness required. Let me know its in Vermont.

I'm sure you're aware of this anyway, but 2.3 out of a Turbo Coupe would make that car fun. I had a mid 80's Cougar XR7 with that engine and a 5spd. and it was pretty impressive for a 4 cylinder. Little bigger injectors and turbo upgrade gets them close to stock GT Mustang of that same era so I've been told. Plus you still get the gas milage if you fill your right shoe with helium instead of lead !! I prefer lead myself. You'll make it great whatever you do with it anyway. Ok and-- NO LS SHIT !!!!!!!
