I was 12 years old (1976) when I first met Jose Greco. I was dancing flamenco at Poco Loco club in San Antonio TX. About ten years later, I would play my flamenco guitar for him at Club Ole in San Antonio TX during his special guest artist performances. I had recorded on cassette a castanets only dance with his wife on the Mike Douglas show. That was impressive to my childhood memory.
Jose and his partner Nana Lorca came to my high school, Cleveland Heights, in 1978 to perform at special assemblies for my class of '78, as well as the class of 1979.
@mbclev How “Fortunate”💃🏼❤️🕺🏼I was also “Fortunate” to see Jose Greco, at The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Los Angeles 1966 ( I was in High School) a friend & her uncle invited me.🥰
When I was 8, my aunt introduced me to Jose and flamenco. I couldn't see him, only listen, mesmerized by his tapping heels- the adults talked and drank, I lay on the floor, chin in hands, eyes closed, imagining being in a red flamenco dress, waiting for Jose to extend his hand, a castinet in mine. One of my 1st loves! R.I.P. Aunt Anne and Jose Greco. "Well I never been to Spain, but I kinda like the music, say the ladies are "insane" there, but they sure know how to use it..." Three Dog Night. Namaste from Canada. Te Quiero...
Was fortunate to attend a number of his live performances starting in the early 1960s. They were billed as "Jose Greco and his Spanish Ballet" and presented a variety of dances from Spain including Folk and Classical but Flamenco was my favorite.
maestro spent an hour on footwork, an hour on arms, and an hour on castanets in his basement every day growing up in brooklyn - "gotta work on your chops"

That was gorgeous! But out of the blue, anyone got surprised by the music specially this one 2:21 ! It's the same music in a song called "middle of the night" literally the same😂
No. Se proba. A veces si funciona otras no. Soy de una generación que mira los antiguos, que toma clases de cante y navega sobre internet y no somos basuras. Que sabes tú de flamenco ?
Trust me this was the twerk of the day. The Church, the Conservatives and the Progressives of Spain have been trying to get Flamenco banned for a hundred years. It is Romani, gypsy, nasty, regressive, backward, associated with crime and drugs. Familiar?
It's interesting, Nana Lorca did not strike me as a great dancer or performer, but their chemistry together was magic and she came alive as she came close to him. No wonder they were lovers, completing each other.
I guess it's a lost art. This video wasn't very impressive. My friend spent years of dedication flamenco dancing. It was like a martial art. As they progressed they were allowed to wear a new color. They worked those dresses.
What's on Jose's "bolero" jacket- they look like metal castinets, bells?! I became a hippie partly because one of the values was the appropriation of other nationalities clothing, especially that of the poorer people, and the historic- what would be called The National Costume Of...My grandmother said, NOT IN A RACIST WAY, "You all look like Gypsies" to me, then and now, a GREAT COMPLIMENT- I wear boring jeans and typical "G" tee shirts- but I have 3 closets, and 4 dressers full of vintage, "Gypsy", feather boas, an Ostrich feather jacket, peach colored from 1925, meant as a bed jacket but I wore it every day once- my gran won it! She was poor and the antithesis of such an item- she didn't get breakfast in bed! She was up, early, working hard to care for my grandfather, my mom and my aunt- but when she saw "a hippie" for the first time, she wrapped it up and mailed it to me. I treasure it. I now know how cruel is the industry that produces such frivolity but I won't sell it and I can't be buried in it as I'd like because I am being cremated and wouldn't burn such a treasure- Namaste Especially to the real hippies left- there are still "cracks", pockets of people, who shine- the good values survive in say, those who forage in the woods for many nutrious plants and mushrooms-

is it Nana Lorca in this vid?
A few years before this, when I was 4 years old, my parents took me to see Jose Greco and his dancers. I was so in love with the whole show!
Not just a fine performance, but ART.
Every Sunday night, we got our culture.
Traditional and sensual dance.
I can't believe it was in this show. The best tv show.
I took workshops with him and his wife at the time in Houston,Tx. In the late ‘70’s….ole !
Absolutely brilliant.
A great opportunity who saw to Jose Greco dancing.
The passion. The story of love. The traditional attire. ❤👏👏
Magnifique !

This was the tune from "Spanish Caravan" by The Doors! It was a very old Spanish folk/dance song over about 300 years ago!
It's Leyenda, by Albeniz.

That’s art. Not the trash of today’s.

@@xavscriptus3511he said that modern kind of “art” is trash and that flamenco is real 🖼️ art
What is the music used ? Absolutely beautiful performance, like many others mentioned it is ART
Asturis.Isaac Albéniz, with some modifications
How did we culturally came from this to twerking 😂

Nice to see some Irish acts for a change!
This is Spain's culture
Flamenco was invented one century before Irish dance, that's facts,I like both but flamenco was invented first.
what is the name of the female dancer?
Does anybody know the song ?
Asturias; Isaac Albéniz

Flamenco and some aspects of belly dance actually come from the Romani people, although you'd hardly know it from media depictions...
