    Looks great, except the seat post clamp. 😊 I believe a silver one would be perfect.

      @@jdfromdc Awesome! I’m curious to know - did you add front and/or rear racks or fenders to your Sklar for the commute? I rode mine to work for about a week but I needed to use a backpack for half of my stuff which I don’t really enjoy so have mostly stuck to my Riv for that. Once it starts raining here there’s a good chance I will add some fenders to the Sklar but I’m loving how sporty it looks now without them!

      @@bnoguchi1 I added an Ortlieb rear Quick Rack with a “permanently” zip tied milk crate. The rear rack (with milk crate attached) comes off in 15 seconds and goes on just as quick. When I’m biking around with my sons I remove the rack. When I’m going to work I attach the rack and throw my backpack in the milk crate. Im sure there are plenty of other solutions, but I’m happy with it.

    What a series. Truly a bike fit for the trilogy treatment. You're definitely going to get a lot of looks from the local riders. This build is a looker!

    Great work - I have been on a similar journey - one thing I learned is to go back after a few hundred miles and torque everything down again (with a torque wrench) a surprising mount of things come loose when everything is new.

      Good callout! Every time I ride it, I'm still listening for suspicious creaks and rattles - so far so good (knock on wood)!

    Nice build; if I ever decide to splurge on a nice frame, Sklar is definitely on the list, so it was neat to see all the details. Don't beat yourself up over the bar tape lol; I've taped dozens of bars, and I still feel like I never do it quite the same way each time. You can almost always re-do it, even if there's adhesive involved. Happy riding!

      Thanks! Yeah, I'll just wait to see how long the tape lasts!

    This was so very helpful. I recently bought a supersomething that I am planning to build over next few weeks . Similar journey like yours from Rivendell to first disc brakes and thru axles .

      You're going to love it! I forgot to mention this anywhere in the video, (I've only put about 40 miles on it so far) but it's been a really plush ride and it accelerates and climbs really nicely! Thanks for your comment!

      @@bnoguchi1 glad to hear that you are enjoying ! I can’t wait to build my own . I think I am couple of days away from procuring the components . Any tips on sizing chains? And the is adapter is so confusing !!

    • @bnoguchi1
      @bnoguchi1  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@deepakatreya4829 Oh man, I wish I even knew what I was doing right or wrong on that chain! I’m pretty sure (if you’re doing the Microshift Sword system) that the Microshift video directions on sizing and installing the chain will work fine for any normal human being who can pay attention and follow directions. At a minimum, if you mess it up, it seems like the most likely error would leave you long, not short. Long you can correct - just make sure you’re using a reusable quick link and then just subtract one link at a time and test extensively each time until it works. That way you’re never in a situation where you have to add back length, which basically you can’t reliably do safely. I was not methodical about this and my first attempt left me long, but I thought it was REALLY long and I randomly removed like 3 additional links which left me too short to be able to shift into the 48, and it just became a nightmare evening that left me second guessing how I mounted the derailleur, wondering if my cranks were compatible and all sorts of other dark thoughts!

    Very tasteful build. These white industries elements look just awesome, especially with flared spacers under the stem . I am building my bike out of very similar components on Brother Cycles Mehteh frameset. Are these hunt gravel race wheels btw? I just ordered them too!

      Thanks for your comment! I just looked up Brother Cycles (I don't think they're too common in the States) - that Mehteh frame looks awesome! I ended up getting the dynamo adventure wheels, which have been great, but I bet you'll be stoked with the race wheels which look to be almost 500g lighter than mine! I've been very impressed with Hunt, I doubt there's a better value out there. Good luck on your build!

    hows the super something ? enjoying it?

    • @bnoguchi1
      @bnoguchi1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, thank you for asking! I only have about 400 miles on it at this point (and maybe 20 of those were off pavement) but it's light (to me anyway), responsive and very at home on dirt roads when I am on them - even though I'm not running knobby tires, it still feels very sure-footed. Very fun bike!

    Can you describe the ride quality? How does it compare to the Riv?

    • @bnoguchi1
      @bnoguchi1  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I've been surprised at how different the two bikes are! The Sklar is quite lively - lots of feedback and flex when you dial it up climbing or on the flats. I think the tubeset must be quite a bit lighter than on the Riv. It reminds me a lot of a Bianchi criterium bike I had in the early 80s - feels very springy in all the right places but it's not anywhere near as twitchy and squirrelly as that bike was. In fairness, my Riv is almost always laden with bags and all my stuff for work so I feel like it dampens more than it gets to respond, if that makes sense? And I don't really feel like the Sklar would respond to a heavier load as well as the Riv does - so they each have a place in my riding life, for sure. So for all of the talk of "familiarity" when people talk about the Sklar, I've found it to be significantly and refreshingly different from what I'm used to.
