Not to freak out anyone but I don't have the BRCA1 and 2 variant and I still got breast cancer. So this doesn't mean you can forgo breast cancer self exams or mammography. Just a heads-up!
Yes! Just doesn't mean genetically you're more likely to get it. Theres TONS of other factors! Super important to get cancer screenings and report any abnormalities to a doctor ASAP!
I probably have the BRCA gene as my mom just found out she has the gene and has to take tamoxifen (except she found out she’s at high risk for uterine cancer so she has to weigh the risks since tamoxifen increases that risk) and also doesn’t mean I will necessarily get breast cancer so everyone should get do their research tested and be proactive and check their breasts themselves frequently :)
Of course! She did say "it doesn't test for all of them". Maybe it would've been better if the emphasised more that she could still get it. I hope you're all right or that you will be soon!!!

Why was there no proper break down of the South Asian, why does it just say South Asians and nothing else but the European part was very specific
Their database doesnt have enough data,i guess
My guess is that because there are a lot of different/diverse groups and people literally from everywhere in South Asia that live in India(+India is very big) just strictly Indian is hard to pin down. But thats just a guess i dont know any details behind 23andme's technology
They don't have any data in south asian area.
Nelly or owns not really I’d say much of India is pretty homogenous compared to Europe or Africa.
@@nickb3345 You can actually split the people of India into different Group based on genes. I forgot the name of the site. And Michelle gets more insight into her parent's private life than she ever wanted.
And Michelle also gets insight in to the fact that her Mother doesn't know the first thing about biology and genetics
@@cockertoo8920 She's actually correct. Her egg did get dominated by the sperm. And here's why: Europeans are light skinned while indians are dark skinned. Dark skin dominates over light skin because light skin is a recessive trait while dark skin is a dominant trait. Recessive traits require 2 recessive alleles while dominant traits require at least 1 dominant trait no matter what the 2nd allele is. Look at all these possible combinations:
A=dark skin a=light skin
AA - Dark skin
Aa - Dark/fair skin
aa - light skin
Dark features as her dad's dominate light features as her mom's I'm a college student studying biology and I took genetics as one of my classes so I know this stuff.

@@updown9697 it's not Aryan theory. Just observe or demography. I'm from Maharastra. My father side is extremely black and mother side is extremely fair. Here I'm black and my brother wheatish. I belong to upper caste (though I don't belive now) and in my community this is common that you will see all type of colours. how could this be possible? Look at any other country. There will be similar type is people unless they are mix. But I'm India forget about states and region. You'll find difference in same community only. Bangalis have some mongoloid features. My Marathi relative gave northeastern feature. One of my telugu friend looks mongoloid. Also in India we have fairest of fairest people to darkest of darkest people too. So this is for sure at some point of time there was mix of fair black and Mongoloid people. Even look at some tribes in central southern India they will have dark skin with slight mongoloid feature. I don't think there was Aryan invasion but yes definitely there was mix.

Why in every one of these videos, they act surprised or ashamed that they have African in their DNA, honestly what is wrong with that ? We all originated from Africa 🤔
Edit: I stand corrected, we did not come from Africa, I took a DNA test and the furthest my ancestry goes back to is Native American so I feel that the original humans or the closest genotype to the most high are the black people of America because we are mixed with almost every race not the black ppl in Africa
It's probably more of a thing of surprise. But, to have that DNA in you at that point in time, and that small of an amount. It just, kinda seems like something not so great happened. Catch my drift? Y'know, with the whole slave thing that happened? I'm trying to not be so blunt here
Zima Vermillion I feel you
@1008 Homo sapiens is way younger than that, continental drift has no bearing on human ancesty
Why do most people just assume that the African part is from dad? It’s more likely from mom’s side of the family! Centuries old Irish American has a high probability of African dna due to slavery which ended only 150 years ago. This probability would lean more to dad’s side if mom was Irish born!
@1008 indian and Australian plate were one . Do your research properly sir
It's so interesting how you definitely look Indian, but at the same time you look so much like your mom it's crazy
That is because Caucasoid features + Brown skin= Indian
Indian isn't even a Race.
@@Anonymous-lw4nq nobody here said it was
Yeah, I guess it's because there are many more subtle traits and mannerisms that we can inherit from our parents. My former biology teacher was mixed black ( Black, but with a black mom and a white dad) and even though the skin color differs, it's impossible not to tell that they're father and son, my teacher has basically the same personality and mannerisms of his father, even the voice tone and the way of walking is similar.

If you got a 100%, that means you were inbred. Pretty common in South asian communities. If you're not convinced, check out Conan o'brien's DNA result. He's 100% Irish, suggesting he was inbred.
Exact same thing with me I am also 100% from India as well
It’s so annoying that the just say “broadly south Asian” my husband and I did these tests and I got a great detailed breakdown of my ancestry and he got “East Asian”. We were super disappointed.
North American DNA analysis companies have scant samples of South Asian DNA so that leads to vague analytics. Waste of money. South Asians would be better off using UK based companies, they are a lot better for the demographic
Think about it.... Boarders weren't always there. They're man-made
Liz Mowrey, yes but there are groups that have inhabited regions for millennia. It would be better if they could at least say if you have lineage in northern China versus Thailand.
kelly McGregor My kid brother really wants to spend his money on a test too but I feel like we’re going to end up with some vaguely East Asian, since our parents are refugees from Laos and our people have only been in the US for like 40 years. There’s just not a lot of data. It’s frustrating.
@@shylashes I say wait 5 or 10 years so that these dna companies can add more data for non-white ethnicities into their database. I've been eager to buy one myself but can't justify paying for vague and inconclusive results

Ancestry narrows it down much further
Ancestry has one of the largest databases and has a higher rep for accuracy. Family Tree is another good one, and I've known several people who've used CRI Genetics. Just know that you're sending your DNA out into the world, and it can be placed in federal databases and used against you if you've committed any crimes. you're placing yourself into many systems, and I know not everyone is aware of that factor when they submit their DNA.

So they term it had broadly South Asian
Su Porna's not really north indians are very related to middle eastern countries for some reason . Or even europe for some reason. India is wayy diverse not as homogenous as you think
Also, let's not forget that India has been colonised for over 400 years and throughout those years Indians were forced to have children with the colonisers. So I am surprised that her indian side even is not a bit European, however that might be from where some of her other ancestry has come from.

The thing that really bothers me about 23 and me is the targeted ads... they say that they're not selling your info in 1 part of their T&C and then in another part they say "We permit third party advertising networks and providers to collect Web-Behavior Information regarding the use of our Services to help us to deliver targeted online advertisements ("ads") to you. They use cookies and similar technologies, to gather information about your browser's or device's visits and usage patterns on our Services and on other websites over time, which helps to better personalize ads to match your interests, and to measure the effectiveness of ad campaigns."

The only parts I don't like are obviously the fact that the state having any access to your DNA is kind of terrifying, but also the fact that they gave such an in-depth break down of your European side, but not your South Asian one? Virtual Soul yeah that’s why I’d be interested in doing the test. To see if I carry the genes for ovarian cancer, etc although it would be interesting to see how my results differ from my sisters because we don’t look alike. At least not obviously, you can see it if you know
My dad is half indian half white and my mom is Nigerian , I ended up looking like indian. Indian genes are so doninating !!

I highly recommend these DNA tests. I did the Ancestry one and met my biological father, he didn't even know I existed. We look exactly alike and now I'm great friends with my cousin who grew up 30mins away from me in the next city over!
I love your parents! If they’re down, you should do a video with your parents about being an interracial couple!
