At around 9:00 I hung an exchange. The line is only an idea on how to deviate from the main plans for black. If you are going to play that you have to play Qg6 or Re8 at some point first:) Sorry for the blunder!
Thank you very much as always! I know you want to become a GM, but just know that all the value you create here in youtube is worth more than a thousand GMs all put together.
Yeah me too. I feel very comfortable playing the advance bc a lot of people walk into it thinking it's better for white but since I know the theory I can catch a lot of people off balance but the exchange is tough
@@Graybat12 bruh french exchange is the most easiest, boring, symmetrical opening lol... if you find french exhange tough, you shouldn’t be studying opening lmao
this discussion was really helpful, i was fed up with the drawish type of game in this variation, back to back 3 games drawn with same position, so much wastage of time and mental drain
At 9:08 after the 0-0-0, you are loosing an exchange Bg5 which will attack the Q and if moves which Black has to then B*Rd8 loosing an exchange and probably the game as well.
In my opinion the exchange french is an amazing weapon for white. Most french players hate to face it and unless at a 2200+ level the chances for a draw are not that high as praised. If you play into a main line advanced for example the chance is high that blacks knows the plans much better than you do
Very nice video! :) I've been interested in the French for black recently and your videos are some of the best explaining videos I've seen! I will certainly recommend your channel to my friends! :) P.S. Against 4.c4 I like to play 4...Bb4+! Not only is it more active than on e7, but it gives a chance for white to make a positional error with 5.Bd2?! Bxd2 either Qx or Nx will leave white with a slight disadvantage - instead of 5.Bd2?! The main move is of course 5.Nc3 Nf6 and black proceeds with a good game :)
This video is over 5 years old, so I guess you’re much better right now.. you should rewatch it again ….you’ll see lots of mistake in your analysis..😅 still entertaining to watch ❤😊
Your plan for Black to castle queenside after 4.Nf3 Nc6 5.Bb5 Bd6 6.0-0 Bd7 depends on White playing passively with 7.c3 Qf6 8.Be3. White can play 8.Re1+ instead followed by Bg5 with attack, or even 7.Re1+.
Interesting ideas, but the fact remains that if White absolutely can't take a draw, he can't play the Exchange French without that being the likely outcome. And, if Black absolutely can't take a draw against an opponent who likely would want one, Black can't play the French and recapture with the pawn on d5(If Black really wants to play with fire, he can re-capture with the Q entering unrecommended positions similar to the Rubenstein variation). If both players agree to play fighting chess (which is typical in Swiss tournaments when the opponents are close to equal rating), both players can be expected to avoid the Exchange French unless both are rated so low, they don't know what to expect.
At 12:16, Re1 would free space for the king to run to f1 and allow it to flee to d1 where it would be safe. White is only slightly winning here though.
I really hate the Exchange French because it maintains symmetry for so long. I hate it so much that I often play 2 . . . QxP, transposing to the Exchange Winawer. The problem is if White responds 3. c4.
@hanging pawn i really like your Videos and enjoy the studies u made…@13:48 Black is able to sac the Exchange Rxe2 and after recapturing either with the Queen or the Bishop Black takes the free Bishop on f4…?
Just notice at 12:51, what if white tries to do the move Bb5 - an attack on black's queen and rook? Is that compensated with good positional play for black?
I'm sorry, if, in the Monte Carlo variation, black is waiting for me to move my bishop and waste a tempo, can I also play the waiting game, develop dark square bishop and queen and castle queen side? Or would there be something wrong with that?
Hi Stjepan, at 7:52 in position after Bb5-Bd6 what if white doesn`t castle? For example, he can continue the attack on Q side with c4-dxc4, d5-a6, Ba4-b5, dxNc6 -bxBa4. It looks like a very strange position and not very good for black. What do you think?
Only the advance variation will be done from white's perspective. All the other lines are going to be done from black's. I thought it was important to focus on white in the exchange and in the advance.
Excellent video but after 8...0-0-0 doesn't white play 9 bg5 pinning the Queen against the Rook and win the exchange? Others have asked the question also-does Hanging Pawns have an answer that would allow his Queen to continue the sacrifice attack and get at least a forced draw?
This is a bad video for exchange french (imo) since you fail to go over the main ideas in the main line. Instead focusing on dubious side lines for white. Most of your videos are great though! But now i keep looking for how to draw with this line against stronger white players.

I saw it as well , but I think Stephen also see such a clear move , I just wish he said what is the best more after Bg5
I think it's queen g6 and if he takes our rook we play Bishop h3 and he had to push the pawn and then we take their rook. Just a thought

Around 12:24 its not a forced draw instead of Qc2 if white moves Re1 then white gains a very good adavantage and probably will win!
Good video
White plays 6.De2+! instead of 6.0-0 in the symetrical Variation. Then at 8:06 white plays 6.c4! instead of castling.
At 9:19 Bg5 win an exchange and when black play against the exchange with the idea of Queenside castle he put his Queen on d7 not on f6 .. cheers 😊

Nf6 3:16
Nc6 7:00
Bd3 Ne2 13:10
Nc3 14:20
с4 15:36

Castling queen side is probably risky with an advanced d and c pawn, since you don't have the c pawn in front of your king.
Interesting line. But black is able to atack the Bishop with de pawns before taking the c pawn. Don't you think?
Well, white also can, instead move his bishop, take the d pawn, counterattacking the knight. But, after the trades, it seems decent for black.
Bishop G5 after black castles???
I love how you pronounce "rook". Rrrrook xD It's awesome!
Idk, whe I put the ideas from the second half of the video, it says like more than plus 1 for white. Thats much better
1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. exd4 exd4 4. nf3 nf6 5. Qe2+ gives White tiny advantage or should have
Well not really imo. I think you want your queen on c2 in that setup. But it might be a good weapon to get out of theory.
Thanks for the video. Is this series going to be from the white side? Would love to see the black side if possible.
Only the advance variation will be done from white's perspective. All the other lines are going to be done from black's. I thought it was important to focus on white in the exchange and in the advance.
