Thanks for the share and shout-out, I really appreciate the exposure and support.
I appreciate open source innovation! Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us.
It's nice to have you explain all that's required for docking . thanks for the cool approach
Glad it was helpful!
Your video quality is looking a lot better than your last video, man! I can definitely tell you're putting in the work to up your production quality. Awesome. Looking forward to more videos.
That is so awesome! I have been wanting to put a radio up high or in a tree with a good antenna and not have losses do to a coax cable and this looks like a great implementation! Thankyou!
You could make your CAT control cable from some CAT6. Tie some cordage around that radio and throw it over the tree. You can do it! Post pictures when you're done.
Will putting it higher even work? What exactly the does do aside from make it harder to work with? I'm not trying to be mean or condescending, truly. I am new to this stuff, but my understanding is that radio waves travel at the speed of light and the quality of their signal wouldn't be obstructed by anything if not put in a tree or be received noticably sooner because of being put up.
@@BadgerScrub honestly, my comment was complete sarcasm. The idea of putting the radio in a tree with a super long custom control cable is not practical. The smarter option would be to have an antenna adapter from the SMA to a BNC or PL259 and then run a bit of coax to a better V/UHF antenna in a tree or mounted higher.
Pretty cool feature. I just picked one of these up as a cheap scanner to receive a certain band for planes at airshows. That's the only reason I got it. I didn't realize how much you could modify though.
Just got my Extra so this is going to be interesting lol
It's definitely really versatile. Gratz on your extra!
Very nice. Compliments to the Creator. And to you for passing it along.
Had a go at cable today was fun , u can tap in to audio slicing the 2.5
Very cool. I'm excited about what this will inspire.
All new radios should have features like this firmware with the radios. They really need to get with the times in hardware and software, etc.
I wasn't going to get a quansheng, but this makes me want to do this lil project.. Pretty cool.. It would be really cool, if you could use your computer for the mic and audio with just the programing cable.. Would be really cool if you could do ft8 or sstv with it aswell..
I'll be honest. I only have the radios to hack around with. They never actually get real use.
Wow!
This opens some serious project possibilities:
- Use TWO cheapass radios linked to a controlling computer as a repeater.
- Like one or two to a computer to implement a much higher powered DMR (or other digital mode) hotspot. The computer handles the digital part and the link to the internet.
- Who knows what else?
Can't wait to see what comes of this.....
Lots of cool things. I've got a few ideas myself, but just have too many projects on the shelf.
Your developing well from your first shows. Dont look at them! That is the way it is for everyone save professional journalist and people who have shifted from TV or radio...Why Files (he was professional DJ and TV show presenter but is a very good journalist. He clearly has either a awesome staff or has formal education or both....
A script and teleprompter helps every body - even if it's just like an outline to help you remember every point or if you've actually written it out completely. I'm a lawyer so when I give appete briefs, I normally just use an outline and make sure I hit all my points and have it drilled down to just cue cards because you want to keep an eye contact with the judges you just want to know your issue completely and be ready for any question and then when you're in court that's a whole different set of circumstances it's completely dynamic and potentially very fluid again you still have to know your issue and have done your homework.
Thank you for the tips. A script is very handy even if it's just bullet points. Once my office is finished I will have something setup to use one.
Get back to me when it pipes the audio through USB to the computer _and_ can still control it
It can actually do this. I just didn't build the cable this way.
You made a good video. Well done.
Thanks. I know the audio was a little rough on it.
Try it with an AIOC cable. The author is getting one and is going to try and make it work with AIOC if it does not already. Also I've got Ham Made parts working on cables.
I'll give it a try when I can make one.
@@ModernHam Hayden from ham radio DX already proved the AIOC works
Good job 👍
Thank you!
thank you, you ar the best great video 🤗
Cool video! And congrats on the new camera? what one did you go with?
Thanks! I got the ZV-E10. I had some issues trying to filter out an awful sound from a laptop fan in the room though to no fault of the cameras.
It's a shame push-to-talk wasn't implemented in software. My computer microphone is so much better than anything on a Chinese handy talkie and it would have removed the need for the butchered cable. Definitely a feature someone should ask Quansheng to make available in a future release. These guys are going to crush Baofeng if they can continue to innovate and release. Just integrating the community hacks would take them to a new level.
Agreed. A built in PTT would be a game changer.
Nice video. But are you going to tell me this software works only with the original Quansheng firmware, and not with the Egzumer firmware?
This software is a firmware itself on the radio with a PC App. It would work with egzumer if someone were to combine the two which I doit there's space for.
@@ModernHam Okay, Thank you for this information.
I wonder if there will be a way to do the same type of interfacing with the Baofeng radios that are equipped with GPS. I am particularly interested in having a computer interface with the GPS data. It would be great to have that data displayed on Google maps or some other mapping software.
I'm thinking it might be possible, all you need is to get the NMEA data sentences from the GPS via serial cable
Is it possible to unlock the frequencies of 50,000 mgh to talk on the quansheng uv-6k?
I love the idea that there is so much we can do with the UVK-58 radio, im hungry to know more, but everything you did online and get files for did not work for me. Files didn't auto download, nothing extracted. Maybe explain why it was easy for you and tons of other people like me have an impossible time with this.
Thanks for sharing this, works great. ladies voice seemed to disappear though, was wondering if you or anyone knows how to get it back, can't seem to find it on the menu. thanks
I downloaded the firmware for the uv-k6
I can receive fine , transmit button is disabled on USB can you help ?
Thank you ...
Well said.. Imagine if the FT3D/5D was open source, lol
I'd replace the built in aprs with Direwolf lol.
@@ModernHam hell ya! hahah
I wonder if you could remote into the pc to transmit and listen
You could!
I have heard rumor of CAT control with satellite software...does this work with any?
I ant Connect My UVK5/6 To Pc , I Have Windows 7 And I Cant Get Windows 10 On This Computer :(
Im To Poor To Buy A New Pc, Ehhh !
I've heard CB freq's can also be loaded...
CB freq's are shit for transmit. Low signal and massive noise.
i can get it working I just cant hear anything..... not sure whats up.
SQL : 0 , menu
Curious if this can be used to control VFO for doppler shift in satcom
It can!
Have a look on google for C-Board GPS, dsp hardware extensions.
Almost all of the D-STAR radios are controllable and have been for many years.
I'm having trouble finding control software for one of their handhelds that allow audio pass through.
No way to get audio on the PC without the fancy custom cable?
No off the shelf solution that combines the two yet. But it's just 2 trs plugs. You could even twist the wires if you don't want to solder them.
Ky or Tn?

Something on your camera making it go lighter or darker. Learn to not be in auto modes.
Yeah, first time with a grown up camera so I'm learning the ins and outs. Next one is better.
Probably one of the worst how to do it videos I ave ever come across, have I got Git hub... NO, trying to follow your instructions, impossible, you are assuming people are conversant with all this, if we were we would not be looking to something like this to try and do it..... terrible.
Sorry you couldn't figure it out. Maybe try asking about what part you are held up on. There are dozens of comments here from people who were able to get it up and running after watching, you could try asking one of them for help. Software that is cutting edge like this often requires a bit of technical background, so you may struggle without a foundation. There are also other videos on the same topic, but you will probably struggle just the same, as this is more of a skill issue on your part. After all, something has to be different between yourself and everyone else here right? Nah, it's probably my explanation.
@@ModernHam These is always a monkey in every crowd.
Thanks!!
No problem!
will this work on the quansheng UVK58 ??
I don't have one laying around to try so I'm unsure.
Oh I want something like this for Linux
