I guess that 90 makes a difference then. Saw how he was pulling in the straights. I can see the KLX still handles awesome, maybe identical but less power.
@@NightSkywalker69 The klx has much less power, but I was also like 80 pounds less and the bike itself also is like 50 pounds less. The 390 was fully tuned/bolt on and my klx was stock. It would be closer now but the 390 is much quicker in the straights for sure.
The wife bought one to learn on. I rode it home for her. I'm almost 300lbs and I was holding 75mph and wasn't even ringing it out. I'll bet that little beast can hit triple digits. I like it so much that I want one now 🙂
Both are braking too late and too long to power out of the curves right. I would have left you in the dust pretty quick. Other wise a COOL video man and thanks for sharing.
@@nathanbaeyens2856 you shouldn't be decelerating into a curve that could even be dangerous. Finish your breaking before you start to turn in. You will have more traction and you will improve your times if you are accelerating out of the curve
Koo video man! Just the type of video I was looking for. I currently own an MT03 but will be picking up a KLX300SM soon. Can't wait to shred on my SM 👍🏾
Which one to Get? Like the weight of the KLX300SM. but the Power and features of the Duke 390? Do not Want two be revving out the KLX most of the time?
If you are planning to keep it long term, good luck with the Duke's Reliability. I rather keep the lighter and (like this guy did) weighted down KLX 300SM with the intake/exhaust mods and maybe a minimal sprocket change. Learn to ride it first with the crappy tires until they wear out and then move on to the tires he upgraded to.
@@nathanbaeyens2856 Both seem like excellent choices from opposite ends of the do everything spectrum. What's the KLX 300 like at freeway passing e.g. WA has 70mph sections with a passing lane, so could legally zip past at around 90mph My ninja 250 was definitely getting toward 90's era family sedan level passing at that range (on the slow side) My Ninja 300 has no problem and zips past quickly, passenger or not, but not as instant as a 600+ would I don't care about 100+ mph riding. I had much faster cars in my 20's, but have dialed back to zippy and fun to drive but not so extreme.
@@nathanbaeyens2856 did you notice a bump in power from the air box lid removal? Or just the sound? I took mine off on my sm and it seemed to lose some mid range power. Interested to hear your thoughts.
@@marsarmory6236 I'll have to see what a full exhaust does, because while the lid delete and ejk gave me some low end, it gave me basically nothing up top.
my CBR250R had like 10 less horsepower than the KLX and weighs more and could still hit 80-85 all day. This could probably get into the 90s with a light rider

The driver of that car was getting it!
yeah, he's one of the faster cars I've seen around here
My guy on the 390 needs to slow down, looks like he's riding outside his limits towards the end of this
Yes
Suprised you hit mid 80s with it. I might have to buy one

Nice run. Can't find better roads than Harriman around NYC :P

You should ride the dragon.
If you were on the KTM you'd be gone.

Great video! Lil klx was on that duke! Nice!
What road is this? Somewhere in appalachia? Looks so fun
Definitely further north. I’m guessing Pennsylvania or NY
Looks like 7 lakes road in or near bear mountain state park in NY.
What tuner is needed on the KLX300? Wish they had white plastics for it.
I have the EJK tuner. Adds a bit of pep down low.

it wouldn't. They overlap a lot.

Wow that was fun to watch! Is the KLX still stock? Can you get low in corners to almost scrape the knee?
You can drag knee if you wanted to, but I prefer foot out on this bike. The KLX was stock, aside from removing the lid on the airbox.

Stage 1 mods and better rubber should make a world of diff on the kawi. They are super lean and restricted from factory.

It crackles harder than a JDM RX-7 when you let out of it.
What kind of air pressure were you running and was it to much or not enough.
The stock tires like whatever pressured are listed in the owners manual. about 30/30
