    I like your videos. I have a Porsche 928 and there are people like you on the forum that keep our cars going. I used all your videos and imparting of knowledge to replace the whole front end in the 99' W202 I bought my daughter. Looking for a video of yours on timing chain replacement right now.

      how about tracking down a strange wiper condition. I have replaced the motor, both relays and the combo switch on steering column. I have also refreshed all the wiring harness grounds I could reach behind instrument cluster and under the hood. I am still having intermittent wiper control issues. Won't shut off sometimes, acts like it is just turned on. I am feeling it could be a SAM issue. Thoughts? I have ordered a true diagnostic tester (Hain@ Mercedes Benz Carsoft 7.4) rather than just an ODB scanner.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      year make and model.. do you have rain sensing wipers ?

    • @jspahn
      @jspahn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 1999 C280 without rain sensing wipers.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No rain sensor issue then, that would be the last on the list to test , so yeah a SAM or convenience module issue is likely.

    My blower motor on my 98 clk320 died about 2 months ago and i called an auto wreckers in the GTA and got a used one for $90 with the resistor. When i removed the old one i hooked up the fan w/o the resistor to an external battery & it worked. So in my case the resistor was shot but thankfully the used one i got came with the fan and resitor. This an extremely common problem with w208 and older models. I know 2 other w208 owners had had to get new blower motors. The dealership charges like $350 for the fan only and another $2-300 for the resistor, which is absurd. I got the whole thing used for $90.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mitch Rubin yup, a used one is the way to go, and they all eventually die ... this was just to warm my ass on the way to getting the used fan :)

      No problem its all good.. heres a new one for you. I installed LED dome lights and am wondering what the value of the load resistor should be to allow the car to sense that there are lights in the fixture so that the single passenger side spot can work? I figure that the car thinks that there arent bulbs in it so they all turn on when the single spot switch is pressed

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Z Hmm not sure on that.. never had an issue with any of the LEDs I put in. Electricity stuff makes my brain turn fuzzy

  • @delboy8903

    Nice one Fupabox. Love the hat. A word from the wise told me never to run the fan at full blast as it's a sure fire way to wear it out; never mind the noise like a 747 landing on your roof!

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I tend to leave mine on auto.. rarely ever goes to highest speed...not sure if it would wear quicker, but it is very possible due to the lift on the motor shaft at higher speeds

    • @delboy8903
      @delboy8903 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, heaters are a bugger to replace on most cars. One whitty car journalist wrote about his experience replacing the heater motor in his Mk III Ford Capri.
      He was of the opinion that Ford hung the heater on a piece of string in the factory and then built the rest of the car around it…….!

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      del boy I sold an old Volvo 240 wagon years ago because the heater fan died... 10 hours to remove the entire dash to replace.. I decided it was time for a new car :)

    Do you have a video with the coolant auxiliary fan noting working for C280. The fans do turn on when I push 12 volts into the connecter plugs. Any suggestions

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      likely the resistor for the cooling fans or a relay . you can swap a relay from one of the known good circuits and see if the fans now work . If not the resistor is located near the bottom of the rad on the drivers side ( depending on which model you have ) .you can trace the wiring from the cooling fans right into the resistor . I don't have a vid for it , but it's not too hard to check the involved components. You have eliminated the fans , so they aren't the problem , So it's down to either negative power not getting to the fans through the resistor , or positive not getting through due to bad fuse or relay . Does your a/c heater blower inside the car work properly ? sometimes the cabin heater blower can halt function of the cooling fans , but generally not .

    • @simonmoreno4757
      @simonmoreno4757 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fupabox i have a 1998 Mercedes C280 V6 non sport US model. A/C heater blower inside works properly even the defroster every morning here in California, except my A/C cold air because my compressor seized/broken. I've changed a couple bad fuses so next is checking the resistor/resistor ground (assuming its under the driver side fuse box and not the driver side fuse/relay box inside the engine) and the relay. Follow up in the AM.

    I have a 2006 C180 W203. the ac fan speed keeps fluctuating regardless of the speed setting I use. Have checked the blower fan regulator, and even changed the ac control panel in the dash board. No change. any ideas on how to fix this? should I do a AC reset?

    mine done the same thing but it was rust at the same place were you touch when i open the plastic part to reach the fan it was full of water so was rust blocking the fan W-40 and silicone running again I cannot see where the water coming from have an idea ??? I know it is were the wiper rest because the snow melt in the night the car was in the garage

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the drain tubes from the base of the windshield where the air comes in are likely blocked up with leaves and dirt. ..poking a coat hanger down them will clear them out

    Hi Fupabox,- 2001 CLK320
    My blower motor wasn’t working. I pulled it, one brush wasn’t making contact, I jerryrigged it, put it back in. It works. However, it won’t turn off, even when I turn the car off. I’m assuming the blower resistor is bad? Your thoughts?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      likely the resistor or the fan control relay . Check the relay first under the hood (remove fusebox cover the unscrew the top ... has to come off to get to relays in back) cant recall which one is fan relay ,but it should be located in there

    • @mattnota1284
      @mattnota1284 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      fupabox thanks, it was the resistor. Curious if you knew why the lcd screen is not displaying all of the functions.. some pop in and out.. for example: the first three bars of the fan power are not showing, and the “smog” is always showing

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mattnota1284 likely the hvac control unit is failing. Smog is activated by pressing and holding the recirc button for a few seconds . If it doesn't reset by pressing recirc . then something in the control unit isn't working properly. I know there are places that can fix older digital hvac control units but not sure if they are worth the $$ over a good used one

  • @chuckstogner1222
    @chuckstogner1222 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fupa, thank you! I checked using the pushing on the motor shaft and is the fan motor. Unfortunately could not adjust the tension on the brushes.
    Do you have a video on replacing the fan motor.
    I looked on the FCP web site and they have prices from $200+ to $93. for the fan. Is there a brand that you use?
    Also do you have a video on testing and replacing module under the seat?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Again apologies for late reply .. haven't been home is a few days..I have always gotten good used fans from the wrecking yard, so have never purchased a new or aftermarket one. about the under seat module..do you mean the power seat control module ?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oops forgot the fan motor question... no video.. it's only 3 torx screws holding it in and the wire plug. you need an Ohm meter to test the resistor.. it just varies the resistance across the negative side of the wiring

    • @chuckstogner1222
      @chuckstogner1222 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one you mentioned that could have bad solder joints that needed to be checked after checking the fuses when the seats quit working.

    Hey if it starts up but the middle vents are not working but that sides ones are. What could be the problem?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends which model Benz you have .. some the center vents only blow cold air with the a/c on, some will blow only a bit warm down to cold , and some will blow any temperature. If they won't blow at all , it is likely a stuck or broken flap actuator.. what year and model is your car

    so if the fan is making that ticking noise, it is dieing?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ticking could be something stuck in the fan from a plugged cabin air filter

    • @yolsclassics6347
      @yolsclassics6347 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** you sir... are correct! I had a hunch it was something but I also began to accept it was dieing since the car is old.
      But upon removal of the blower, a lonely largeish leaf made itself a home there!

    it appears my problem is the fan speed resistor pack, after removing the fan and cleaning all the debris and dead wet soggy decaying leaves out of the motor, the tray below the motor and the air filter, I cleaned up the motor WD40'd it and put it across a car battery and it spun super fast - put everything back together and no go, so I'm guessing its that resistor pack on the heat sink next to the motor - which can be found in this video,
    th-cam.com/video/GRiq-U13T68/w-d-xo.html

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  5 ปีที่แล้ว
