    Why did you use rock instead of cement? What keeps the wall from pushing over? I’ve never used this type of block, can you explain how they work to me.
    I guess I’m dumb on some stuff. Stay safe

    y,ou should lay down geotextile nonwoven fabric, then your pipe fill that with gravel, then wrap it up like a burrito, eventually the dirt(especially clay) will mix in with the gravel and clog your pipe. you can get the fabric at Menards

    You are the first guy that I have seen do things right the first time, and if you see a mistake, you correct it . Great, thorough job.

    What type of rock did you use? 8s, 9s, 5/3? I'm a novice following your videos. Thanks!

    this is the first storm shelter I' ve seen with direct openings to the outside world! how can those open windows protect you from a storm or invasive force projectiles with windows??? Sure would love your response to that idea!!!

      If you watch further in the series I changed these to window wells instead of being open.

    Just a thought if you kept the wall the same height all the way down you could have also had a place to park a vehicle below ground to protect it as well. I love your post and how you take the time to teach and explain what you are doing. Happy New year God bless.

    that ground pounder you are using is not a good compactor. it makes the top hard or tight but does not reach very deep. a jumping jack or hydra tamp is much better.........g

    Why do you want drainage towards your building, I don't understand your design.

    If you want your block straight, you should run a string line. But for this wall it may not be that important.

    Have you ever noticed any frost heave with the retaining walls you've done?

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can happen. Lots of prep needed to make sure these do well.

    Stop using that junk flex drain pipe. Solid only. Flex is too easy to crush.

    did you put drain tile around the footings of the shelter, we have to here? many retaining wall are built in front yards out by the street and the ground must slop away from any home, so the ground cant slop to the house from the retaining wall, 3/4 washed rock is back filled the wall with a drain tile every 2 feet up, as well a 2 in drain pipe must go though the retaining wall 6 feet a part, 2 feet off bottom grade and 3 feet above, landscape cloth is put between the 3/4 rock back fill and the dirt an well as on top of the rock before top soil is added, if built to code the wall never blows out, dont mater if the wall is a foot high or 15 feet high it is built the same way, out frost go down 7 feet, the only walls i have seen blow out are DIY wall and they cut corners and didnt pull a permit for it, having said that were my land is no permits are needed to build, or in any other unorganized townships

      Arnold Romppai I did put drain tile by footing of storm shelter on the inside I ran it to a sump pump. I ended up pulling the retaining walls because I got in a hurry and didn’t get back fill packed enough. That is in one of the videos.

      You don't really need the drain tile . Water is supposed to flow through the face of the wall . It's for extra saftey . And If the wall is above 4 ft high , usually you should start looking into geogrid . That is , with standard retaining wall block (70-100 lb ) . Separating the drainage aggregate with a high flowing filter fabric is a good idea if possible .

    Is your drainage stone washed ?

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brad Braswell it is not washed. They call it road stone where I live. It’s best to use washed rock if you can but if not you want to get something with minimal fines in it.

    Some codes require a geotextile 4 to 6 feet back every few courses irrespective of back-fill condition.
