People then witnessed grass roots footage of such incidents on social media and became shocked that it did not match with the mainstream media's reporting, and in fact sat at complete odds. Rather than addressing the incidents being witnessed, the government then sought to punish those sharing such footage, leading to accusations of 'two tier policing" to use the popular phrase and distrust of the media.
