I Know The End is one of my favorite songs of all time. The ending is her idea of how the apocalypse would sound in a song, and I think it works absolutely perfectly. The chaos with the screams, the horns, the drums, the guitar, it all just feels like the end of the world and I love it.

Phoebe does such a good job of doing production that serves the song perfectly. I feel like there’s no other way these songs could be heard. This is such a cinematic and atmospheric album. Sometimes the things are so small that you don’t realize how special it is til you listen so many times and catch different things each time.

I attended Phoebe's concert here in Toronto back in June with my sister. Going into the show I only knew Kyoto and was pretty ignorant to her music as a whole, expected to spend most of the show sitting on the hill at the back of the outdoor venue. As soon as the concert started though, it was magnetic. I was totally sucked right in, and the performance and the visuals blew me away unlike any concert I had ever been to. I left feeling a bit different, which might sound a bit weird to say. Since then this album has been one of my favorites.

Welcome to the Phoebe Lovers Club!! I don´t know what it is exactly, but since I first heard her music I can´t stop listening to Phoebe, with other music after a while it gets repetitive, with her I feel like she´s touching my soul. Luckily I got to go to a concert a couple of weeks ago and for the firts time in my life I got emotional on a live performance (yes she made me cry) No need to clarify that I´m up there in age, so I have listened to a ton of music in my life and been to a bunch of concerts.

Oh ... so Billie Eilish shared a hilarious Phoebe Bridgers story on her "Me & Dad" radio show a couple of years ago. Billie said she was only about 10-11 yo at the time I think, so Finneas couldn't have been more than maybe 14-15? Anyway, Finneas' band The Slightlys was competing in a battle of the bands contest, and young Billie and her Dad were there to support him. But, suddenly, a very young and "tiny" Ms Bridgers jumped on stage with only a guitar, and blew everybody away with the quality of her performance. So much so that, from that moment, both Billie and her Dad were secretly rooting for Phoebe to beat Finneas ... which she did! Finneas was apparently very upset because the contest had been billed as a battle of the BANDS, yet this Bridgers kid didn't even have a band LOL. Billie and her Dad have been Phoebe stans ever since. You can see Patrick wearing his Phoebe Bridgers t-shirt throughout the Blurry doc. Cheers.

Punisher is one of my favorite albums of all time and I’m so happy you decided to react to it! I am absolutely in love with every aspect of this record but especially the story-driven, very specific, detailed style of lyrics that you mentioned. If you’re familiar with the 2010’s pop-punk scene you might have heard about a band called The Wonder Years who have a very similar lyrical style to Phoebe. If you haven’t listened to them before I would highly recommend their album No Closer To Heaven (and also Sister Cities and The Greatest Generation, but I’m getting ahead of myself). It is another one of my favorite albums and it also scratches that storytelling itch in a very satisfying way. If you enjoy a slightly rough yet high-quality, almost evolved 2010’s pop-punk sound I think you would really like it!

Although listening along with this video I've picked up so many small nuances that really shine through the production of this record. Hey, Blake. I love your music reviews. I would like to suggest you a portuguese singer called MARO, for future reviews. Her music and voice are truly hypnotic and transcendent and the last album is... pure magic! ✨

I love this album!!!! It's still winter over here and eeevery time it's cloudy I'm listening: Punisher, Folklore/Evermore and/or Tapestry. EVERY TIME 😆
My favs are: I Know The End (I love it so muuuuuuch🔥), Savior Complex, Chinese Satellite and Graceland Too.
On the "Dead Wax" channel (ex professional musicians react) the guys interview Phoebe's producer Tony Berg and guitarist Harrison Whitford and OMG, looove that conversation. They talk about some songs from the album and Tony Berg talks about "egos" while producing (and how he approach producing). I totally recommend that video, it's called "What Makes @Phoebe Bridgers 1 in a MILLION?"

The production on this one is a big reason why this album is an album I would consider a modern classic.
On top of that, Bridgers lyrics are soul crushing. Her abstract use of a verse chorus structure but never repeating a lyrical section adds to the tension. She adds bits of her personal life into everything, so it’s hard to tell if she’s just a brilliant writer or if she’s also very broken by things that have happened to her. People often describe her music as “Taylor Swift for girls who have crumbs in their bed,” hitting at that depression angle. Truly brilliant.
