Nice video very informative. I just bought a Roland Ds 61 Black edition. I love it I just had it a week still learning the machine. It has so much but it sounds good. I love it.
I've been thinking about this instrument. Only negative is no onboard speakers. Do a 1 to 1 comparison to the RD88. Is the synthesis on the RD 88 as good as it is on the Juno. Is the Juno Piano comparable to the RD88?
There is no sound synthesis on Rd-88 at all. It's a preset sounds player. Obviously, you are able to control filter cut-off, resonance, TVA attack, release times and a few other basic sound modify options and also apply different effects to sounds. But basically that's it. Roland stated you should be able to create sounds with virtual Zenology synth and then load sounds to RD-88, but 1) Zenology costs, 2) it's not clear at what extent Zenology sounds are compatible with RD-88 engine. Speaking about pianos, Rd-88 has newer generation 'supernatural' (part modeled, part sampled) pianos and eps, DS lacks. So, in piano department RD-88 supplies better sounding patches and contains most of JUNO-DS sampled pianos too. There is no point of doing 1 to 1 comparison, because instruments are from different categories. Juno DS is kinda multipurpose keyboard for beginners and RD-88 is a piano oriented keyboard for gigging musicians. Both are little brothers of, accordingly, FA-08 and RD-2000.
@Wilderness Music . The Juno DS parameter guide download helped me alot to understand it's synthesizing capabilities. For sound creation I like it better than the competion.
@@MerriamPianos thank you. Is this true that the new keyboards including this one don’t have bass guitar option? I’m not musician I help with the audio
@@caseylockwood5512Did you get it? I'm looking to use this as mainly a midi controller since it has weighted keys. It looks like a feature packed keyboard!
Hi there! The DS88's keyboard does not have after touch itself. It can be transmitted via MIDI by using an assignable knob though. I have not personally experimented with this myself however.
Hi! Brent here! Personally, I am a huge fan of the Juno DS88 and, while it comes down to a matter of personal preference of touch and tone, I would favour it over the Korg Kross 2.
@@MerriamPianos appreciate it and keep making great videos! I ended up grabbing the Yamaha MX. I don’t need a “workstation” with my MPC and Maschine/Komplete setup.
Wilderness Music no, I just want something that makes sense. There's too much button clicking, menus scrolling and knob twisting for me. It takes ages to do anything! I bought the Vox and it's a much more simple and intuitive thing to use.
Wilderness Music keyboard is only a second or third instrument for me. My main instrument is guitar but I also play bass and drums, so, like you, having a lot of money to spend on a keyboard is not an option for me. I prefer something simple to use with good piano and organ sounds. I just don't have the time to sit and learn how a keyboard works, I'm still learning how to play it properly, lol.
I like the front panel layout and I found the menus intuitive. Download the Juno DS parameter guide to understand the menus and also theres a tone editor and librarian for download so you can edit the parameters like a computer vst.
Florida Hiker I get it, but it's all such a big hassle. The 1980s tech just doesn't cut it for me in 2021. It's ok though. I've programmed a few favourites and can easily dial up sounds when needed in the studio. It still sounds ok but I think it's coming to the end of it's model life...
I didn't realize Ed Norton was so good at keys! Truthfully though, helpful video. Thanks.
Haha he is a man of many talents! Thanks for tuning in! :)
Eric from that 70s show ?
Wow. Those horns sounded so realistic. Great preview, Stu!

Stu is fantastic and we are very lucky to have his talents! I will be sure to pass on the compliment to him! :)

Most pro level keyboards don't have speakers. It's to save weight for gigging muso's.

What was tha jazz music you played on the piano. I hate jazz but tha as great.
Hi there! Stu does a lot of improvisation when he's demonstrating the pianos. I'll be sure to pass on your kind words to him. :)
@jamessudbury6006 If you thought that was great, maybe you don't actually hate jazz -- you just think you do.

What output would I use if we needed to use a monitor/amp/speaker??
You would use the Output connectors if you were looking to use the DS88 in conjunction with an amp/speakers. :)

Is this still a good buy in 2021? I'm planning to get this instead of an 88 key midi controller.
Did you do it?
Also what I'm doing. I bought an a-88 but I think im gonna return it and use this instead. It just does wayyyy wayyy more.

Hello, does power adapter is included free?
Yes
do you have to connect a laptop or is that just optional?
No, all the sounds are inside the Juno.

Does it support aftertouch?

It has some nice sounds in it but the operating system is a nightmare and very dated now. I won't be keeping mine long.
