Ace John Riley is really fantastic on drum !!! one of the best in the wordl in my opinion , i love his style ! and about John Scofield , what to say more ? all we know , he is a legend on guitar . Very good also bass player Antony Cox . Fantastic trio . thanks for post !
Correct me, as I am not a fluent jazz guitarist but doesn't the 3/4 time signature in Flower Power, have a Hemiola impression, or is just the eclectic timing & style of John Riley?
Oh yey, Riley that i don't knowed about is incredible yes one of the best i've heard, and Cox waww too yes, and sco very good period, perhaps his best trio i think 90, no 87
First time I saw Sco perform was around this same time period. I went to the concert expecting to see his funky and highly influential Blue Matter/Loud Jazz rhythm section of Dennis Chambers & Gary Grainger. Instead, he performed with this straight-ahead rhythm section of John Riley and Anthony Cox. I was highly pissed (LOL), but I stayed and listened anyway, not knowing that show was going to dramatically change the way I hear the music. Now I actually prefer hearing JS play 'straight ahead' more than I like hearing him play 'Fusion', although 'Still Warm' is still probably my fave Scofield album...LOL!
Great video, thank you for posting! I wish I could hear the rest of Flower Power. Seems like the last couple of minutes got cut off. Does anyone have the rest?
Ok. why in God's name would you cut this video off before the end of the song??? That's like cutting an "adult" film before the (wink wink) ending!!!! :(
One of the best trio ever in my opinion

Sco always has a unique point of view. He is like no other, a true original. Bravo! Thanks for sharing this.

Love Scofield. Thanks for this.
I saw this group in the UK in the 90's with Joe Lovano. I would've loved to see this trio!
Wow, "Science and Religion" and "Flower Power" two of my favorite!!!!
Sco is amazing!!!!
Yeah, thanks for posting, very cool! By the way, what a great look by Uncle Sco!
His attack on the strings is like no other.
Great, John Riley really kicks, didn't know he played with Scofield.

viva el Jazz
what amp is Sco using?
herbert freud I think he was using Sundown amps around this time. Two in a stereo setup.
Might have been Matchless by this time.
This is not 1987 Sco. 1990 or 1991.
You are certainly right, songs from "flat out" 1989 and "time on my hand" =1990 ?! He is so so damn good here !
Some guitar player named "Josh" said John was one of his main influences, so I came to learn he wasn't Joshing!
Sam Simmons really rips
John Riley looks like Roger Waters
Buffering, buffering. Why does anybody think youtube gives you anything good
works fine on my cell . phone .
