    Great production throughout, Mark. Song hit the nail on the head ! Splendid model - yours will be even better, I'm sure.....

      Thank you Reinhard, the pub, the Beaufort Arms, well that is where I spent most of my growing life from 15 upwards, would sit in the beer garden with my cider and watch the trains go by, and of course my eyesight was a lot better and could take down their numbers from their, such fond memories so the pub will have to be on the layout :0)

    Hi Mark, thanks for featuring our model of Wootton Bassett station, great to see it on screen! I'm a WB Museum volunteer and it was me that built the model, thanks again

      Hi Malcolm, great to here from you, the man who built the fantastic model of Wootton Bassett Station, you know I was truly speechless when I saw it.
      Seeing the model has to have been the highlight of 2017 for me and has given me so much inspiration on whee to go with my own version of Wootton Basset Station and Junction.
      I never got to see the Station as it was but the old goods shed and platform is where I first saw D1026 Western Centurion and the driver showed me and a friend around the cab and engine room, then in my later years I use to sit in the Beaufort Arms beer garden watching the trains, great memories.
      End of February I'll be visiting the Museum again and it would be great to meet you if you're available, I'm a few years away from starting the station on my layout but I would love to hear your story behind creating this fabulous model.
      Cheers, Mark

      Mark, I'm due to be in the museum on Sat 10th Feb and Sat 3rd March, so if you are in on either of those dates we can have a chat. I'm currently working on backdating the model from 1960s to 1918 at the moment, to coincide with the centenary of the Armistice and change of displays we have planned for this year.

      @WesternCenturion  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Malcolm, hopefully I can make it for the 10th Feb, nothing planned as yet, fingers crossed it stays that way.
      That will be an interesting transition from the 60 to earlier 1918 station, quite a big difference.

    I think it pays to visit these museums ,and to see not just the place,but the rolling stock of the time it was in action.
    I've always wanted to recreate a station,and a line from the time before beechings cuts ,and then add my own twist of what it would have looked like today.
    Andy

    • @WesternCenturion
      @WesternCenturion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really does Andy and this was the first time I've actually gotten to see how Wootton Bassett station actually looked before it closed and I'm also lucky enough to some colour photos of the rolling stock and locos working in and out of Bassett in the 50/60s so they will help lots as well.
      Are you going to recreate a station like you want to then Andy?

    Okay, so I had to watch the slide show twice. Once for the slide show, and once for the music. I may have to listen to the music one more time today. Loved it all. June 1965 was When I started to college. October 1965 is when I started Naval Service. Dec 1965 is when I was married. So you picked a good year...Regards, Solomon

      Lol, so glad you liked both the slide show and music Solomon and it just tops it off knowing that your own life was just beginning in that era, how awesome is that :0)

    Brilliant video you just can't beat photos and models of a location, you can see where you can tweak the areas you want, I will be putting some videos on here soon of my railway room I build in the loft and the layout I'm building ,but my video camera decided to die after about three minutes,so I've got to get a new one,cheers Mick.

      Hi Dave and thank you again so much for giving me the heads up about that model, it really is amazing and you'll see what I mean when you get to visit, trouble is they're only open 4 hours a week and now closed for the next 3 weeks for refurbishment.

    Great video of the museum Mark and a good source of pictorial info for your project. I wish I was so lucky to have a great source of pictorial info for Cmwbyere I did like the 'pun' but I do not really need to know whether you got it up, ha,ha. What a choice of words need to have a word with Blackadder and Balldrick on that.

    • @WesternCenturion
      @WesternCenturion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Nigel, it was a very fruitful visit as they say. Do you not have a local museum in Cmwbyere [or is that Cmw Byre?] and you could always start by contacting the Welsh Archives at this link archives.wales/

      Mark the location is frictional and a play on Welsh grammar 'Come by here'

    • @WesternCenturion
      @WesternCenturion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, right, 'come by here' as in the command to a sheep dog :o) or is that actually 'Come by'? which is one of the commands I use to use when I was a shepherd along with 'away' can't remember the other commands though, I was only 17 when I was working with sheep, one of the best jobs ever :0)

    Now we can really see what you're trying to achieve on your layout. How does the width of the museum model compare to your bench work? Loved your Wurzels. Thanks Mark, David. PS you've got some fantastic comments on this too!

    • @WesternCenturion
      @WesternCenturion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, I was hoping that showing these photographs would help show you all what it is I'm after, so pleased that I managed to get them.
      I think the baseboard was 2 feet or just over, I didn't measure it while there but I will be going back again and hopefully meet the gentleman who built it.

      Though I'm wanting to recreate the station Dave I'd never actually seen it as it was demolished when I was only 2 years old so getting to see an actual model based on it was a real inspiration and given so many good ideas :0)

      LOL Fred, maybe I should have my easter egg Friday night lol.....
      The station and track plan is just how I want it and most importantly I want to fit the Beaufort Arms pub in as that is where I started drinking at the age of 15, a pint of zider while watching the trains from the beer garden :0)

    Hi Mark. Too much beer then? You're right what a pun, sounds similar to what the egg said to the pan of boiling water... "it might take me a while to get hard I've just been laid by a chick!" lol ;)
    Great to see the Wootton Bassett museum layout, it brings your ideas to life a bit more, really looking forward to seeing your version develop. Great song choice too! All the best. Tom

    • @WesternCenturion
      @WesternCenturion  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL Tom, that's the first time I've heard the one about the egg in the pan, love it :0)
      If all goes to plan then the layout will look something like what's in the museum, but with my little special additions.
