Hi and welcome to the Western Centurion channel.
Join me on my adventures through the joys and tears of building my very first OO gauge model railway layout in my garage, and on a tight budget, well as tight as the escalating costs will allow, it should be fun.
As I learn new tricks and tips I will share them with you and of course will learn from you as well so please feel free to leave any constructive comments you feel will help in the building the layout.
But first, I have to get the garage into shape and make it a place I want to be during the colder months.
Cheers
Mark

At long last, the very first running session on the FOUR SEASONS model railway layout, all be it just on the fiddle Yard but that itself is a milestone considering it's been nearly 4 years in the making. From cold wet garage to a comfortable model railway room and running trains in 48 months, priceless :0) , Enjoy, cheers, Mark

A slight change in the format to the Four Seasons videos
มุมมอง 1.3K6 ปีที่แล้ว
After a well needed piece of constructive criticism that gave me a well deserved kick up the arse I have decided to change the way I make my videos. I wasn't really happy with the way I was making them last year so I have decided to have a go at changing the format. Please let me know what you think, it is your feedback that helps me to improve and hopefully make my videos more enjoyable, well ...

Just got a Z21, and been looking on youtube for set up videos, as it's always good to have confirmation that I've understood the instructions properly (some of the translation from German is a bit odd in the instructions - shame on Roco for not getting a native English speaker to proofread it). Got to say that your is the best and clearest guide I've come across so far.
I really enjoyed your videos. I check in every year or so to see if there's any activity on your railway. I hope you are well.
Be for l saw your Vidio I had a class 20 running ok on dcc bought z21 tried to set it up made apigs ear of the programming loco went dead it is still dead please. Please please can you help Gordy bucks??? 12:37 😢
Why did u spend half of the video reversing the loco
How do I order it from the United States
Try this email address - info@megapointscontrollers.com
His name is the name of my school
How do you change a loco address using the Z21 XL ?
Mark what has happened to the layout and your self?
Just literally bought this system and am unpacking it today, came across your videos this morning and wow 😯, it’s even better than I thought, I had already downloaded the app on my touchscreen lappy and wondered if you could use multiple devices to control several locos if friends are round, now I know so glad I kept my last few iPhones , videos are superb and very informative, thanks Nige 🍺 That’s last bit by the way was the killer , having it all on the huge tv screen , simply wow and just what I’ve wanted for my layout
Lol, I just had to watch the video before replying, can't believe it was 5 years ago that I made it, man time really does fly. Well chuffed (pun intended) that you found it useful. Wish I had made the follow up video now, shame work got in the way of that. When I start over again it looks like I'll have to watch my own videos to see what to do lol. Happy Easter Nigel 😀
Actually, professional electrical contact cleaning instructions ban the use of IPA for cleaning in electrical contact surfaces. Yes, it gets things very clean, but IPA is a polar solvent, which means it makes metal surfaces oxide up again rapidly, getting dirty very quickly again. Instead for electrical contact surfaces you want to prefer a non-polar solvent like mineral spirits. The cleaned contact surfaces stay clean much longer when you use a non-polar solvent to clean them.
If you are leaving the fiddle yard empty why not just hinge it and it can hang down vertically when not in use
I’ve literally just cried watching and reading this, i’ve watched my dad decline since 2017, in the Feb we were shopping, and March he was hitting me and didn’t know me, thank you so much, and much love from us at RGJ
Thank you, this is were past memories come into their own, hold on to them and draw from their strengths, everything passes over time and we have to be thankful of our own memories, these are the most precious items we’ll ever have in our own lifetime, always remember the good, never the bad, keep smiling 😁
@@WesternCenturion yeah we’ve watched dad regress all the way back, fighting through his memories, good and bad
@@RGJTrains Hold on in there, what ever life throws at us will just make us stronger and respect every precious moment we have, salute to the firefighters and ambulance personnel 🫡
Thanks for the tip.
Great video. Did you do a part 3 layout set up ?
Sadly Simon I didn’t get around to making a third video, work and family life took over. At some point in the future I probably will make another video.
I've literally just connected everything up and I've got a RED flashing light not BLUE like yours. Press reset for 5 secs it turns blue then back to flashing red.
This sounds like a short on the track, if you haven’t already try the programming on separate piece of track.
@@WesternCenturion That does sound logical but alas no. I connected an NCE and ran a loco no issues. After disconnecting all wires except power and switching off then on the red light still flashed. I pressed the stop button and up came the blue light. I still wouldn't have thought i'd have to press the button to change colour..... Thank you anyway. Your video was very precise and I'm watching part 2 again today :)
@@commonsenseprevails Hi Simon, is it doing this to other locos as well? It’s been a few years now since I last used it but I do remember the flashing red being a short. Mark
@@WesternCenturion turned out to be a faulty unit. I drove it back to exchange and all up and running now. What a fantastic system.
@@junk52 fantastic news, glad you got it resolved. It really is a great bit of kit.
Hi Mark, thank you so much for your step by step guide, very easy and informative to follow. I have a question about changing the loco address. All my locos come with the address no.3. Do you change them with the loco on the track and running as my locos do not accept the new number given. Many thanks, Mark
Hi Mark, and thank, so pleased the video was of some help. It’s been a few years since I last used it, but when I did the programming was done on a separate piece of track specifically for the purpose, there’s an option to do it using this method. Generally you can I faint buzzing from the loco when the cv number is being changed. Happy Sunday 😀
Hi Mark. Useful video especially export/import of a locos settings. Can you export/import the settings for lots of locos at once or do you have to do the locos one at a time? Thanks, Stuart
Hi Stuart, yes you can export/import all loco settings in one go, but it’s been such a long time since I last used it that I can’t remember. I’ve stopped the layout due to work and family commitments but plan on starting again in the next couple of years once prices come back down.
Brilliant video, this is the route I,m going down, can you move more than 1 point at the same time ( the same as the memory function on the servo control board)
Did you ever do a third episode to this video as I cant find it?
Hi Keith, unfortunately no I never got round to making any additional videos due to work and family commitments, haven’t touched it for around three years now, but I do plan on returning in the near future.

Hi I have a drop down bridge across my door. Baseboards are 3ft 6 off floor bridge is 4ft 8 long and hinged in middle with wallpaper paste type hinges allowing one section to fold under the other. When raised its held up with twist out pegs that goes under the one end of lift up. Regards John.
fast forward to 2:44
Thank you for showing this simple but amazing time saving trick I'll be doing this to all my rolling stock from now on
Hi Darren, it worked a treat and glad you’ve found it useful. One caution though, makes sure your hands are dry before touching rolling stock or it might cause some damage to paint work. The plus to this is the more you keep the wheels clean then the less you have to clean the track, win win 😀
Hi Mark, hope all is well with you.
Very effective process. thank you. Have you updated your methods since this was released?
Hi John, the method stays the same but I now clean my loco wheels as well, just need to make sure only the paper on each track is wet and does not meet in the middle or there will be short circuit, it does work well and keeps track cleaning down to a minimum.
sorry guys i have a problem! for data transfer I can't do it! the two voices that the Z21 gives me transfer or SD CARD or EMAIL. can someone help me? thanks
Yes i use railemarster myself but the only thing thats missing in block detection that works with railemarster Does any ideas regarding block detection for real marster please let me know please Thanks gavin
Just found your channel, really like what your doing. I too want to build a system in my garage, so finding your ideas most helpful. Keep up the good work.
good evening Mark fantastic videos i must say, can you please advise me on the program that works on tv? thanks Paul
Hi Paul, so sorry for taking so long to respond, the layout has been -it on the back boiler until I have the time to invest in it again. What I used was an emulator, basically this allows your pc to run android apps, there are a several of these around, some free o there’s you pay for, these a little more stable though and not too expensive, think mine cost £13 at the time.
Mark, wow what a final video. What are you doing with your self now?? Best wishes. John
Hi Mark, I hope all is well. Miss your channel, as many others do.
Hi Mark, all well here thanks mate, same with you I hope. No plans for any videos just yet but you never know for the future :)
Just checking, hope everything your end is ok? Regards Mark
You've used half a bottle when u would have used a lot less cleaning one wheel a time the traditional way is always the best turn train over rub one wheel a time and you don't use half a bottle
This is a fantastic video and has answered most of my unanswered questions I had in my head. 71 and about to start building my Hornby 14/14 double suspension bridge layout with railmaster and elink, Last trainset I had my dad built for me in the 1950's. 3 rail hornby single loop with 1 siding played with it for hours and hours. Yes your dad will be "blown away" as I am. Keep posting videos and keep it clear and simply, Dont miss out any steps and you will have loads of followers exactly as you have done here, Thanks so much brilliant!
Amazing.
Hey bud. Just wondering how your doing. Not seen video from you for 12 months now so thought would check in. I’ve moved house to South Wales and sadly my layout is now all in boxes up the attic of our new house. Think will be up there a few years sadly.
Hi Buddy, sorry for such a long delay, kinda goes to show how often I visit YT now a days... All is ok here with me, just having fun doing other things and work takes up a lot of my free time now. Can't you do something like I did with patio layout, nice simple and helps to satisfy that urge to run trains. Keep safe buddy.
you will really regret that decision mate, should have boxed everything up for the future unless changing gauges. worst thing I ever did was sell all my stuff when moving house 8 years ago, prices since have nearly doubled.
The Z21 offers a visual list of all objects you need to controll on a modell train system! The overview of the list quickly apears to nead a library system. And the system apears to get lost in electronic terms! The ambition of modellers is to make an illusion of reallity - a railroad. What is the ”injector” or ”mute”? You have to have run a steam loco to make an ilusion of how it sounds when starting!
Great video . hope you like mine diesel dave's
Hi. JUst got the Z21 and got a question. I have connected the TP link to my tablet but it only gives me a connection between the tablet and the Z21 so I can control the trains, it does not give me access to my home wifi as well. Any suggestions as to what's went wrong? Iset it up exactly the same as you have. Thanks, John.
Merveilleux, merci. Beau travail.
you made it so clear how this unit works and how to set up thankyou
I have this set and it is excellent. If I have one criticism, its that the loco and tender were so tightly packed in the polystyrene cut out that I damaged the water filler scoop handle when attempting to extract the tender as carefully as I could.
Are you interested in pure sine wave inverters? Hope to get your email
Hi I just bought the Roco Z21 The z21 has blue light Router has power light , wi fi light and socket one light The app just will not connect to router do you have any suggestions please
Hey! Just watched all of your garage videos from beginning to end (ok, maybe 5 years too late!). Am glad to hear Debbie is doing ok after her op. Presumably by the time you read this she will have fully recovered?! Why did you throw your left over insulation away? That would have been useful for your layout to create hills and scenic work? You may have already addressed this (I still have 5 years of videos to watch...) but it seems a shame that you threw it out... Anyway, looking forward to seeing how you have progressed in the last 5 years! haha!
Crostis were all shedded at 15A Welling borough in 1950, the shed had 63 9Fs in total in the days of King Coal. When converted to conventional running they were re classifie as 8F due to the smaller boiler.
