Bah humbug! Ha loving the update, super duper progress. I also love the attention to detail to wiring and how you set up your drop down section. I went a bit OCD with my wiring but now close to running locomotives! Merry Christmas and here’s to a fantastic start to 2018! Cheers :)
Hi Des, you can never be OCD on the wiring and tidiness, you've done the right thing from the start, will save you a whole lot of hassle later on. I'll be reviewing my wiring plans early next year :0) And a Merry Christmas mate and here's to looking at a great 2018
Great to see your layout , and the progress you've made. I think I'll go back and look at your first video again. Just to get a real feel for the progress you've made. Merry Christmas to you and yours. And of course a happy New Year for 2018, and may you have many more to come. Regards, Solomon
Hi Solomon, I think you'll find a massive change from when I first started, I still go back and watch the first videos and it even amazes me. Merry Christmas my friend to you and your family and looking to a fabulous 2018.
wow that is a great drop down lift up section. I bet that took a great bit of time. fantastic. nice hide away for wiring behind the door. then you show the next spot .. oooooo there is a bit of work. have a merry Christmas and a safe and happy new year
Thank you Sparky, the drop down section did take a while to get sorted but taking my time at the start was worth it. that wiring, mmmmm, it's going to take some time to sort out but I'm drawing up a schematic for it all so that will help me a lot. Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the best for 2018 :0)
hi Mark.. you have made a lot of progress this past year... i like the way your drop downs work... awesome... looking forward to next years adventures.. thanks for sharing & have a great holiday... vinny
OMG!! I thought you were going to have a right old go at the beginning Mark!! lol. Great update mate showing the full extent of how far you have got so far. That wiring would do my head in, I assume that it's primarily to do with the points and some dropper wires as you haven't fitted any other things yet but you probably won't anyway being the fiddle yard. The drop down section is a work of art and so cleverly done too. Can't wait to see what goodies Debbie has got you !! ;-) Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Lol, you should have seen the first take which Debbie wouldn't let me use, I actually let slip the 'F' word lol. The wiring just looks a lot worse than it is, I will be redoing it all early next year as the way it is now was just for trial purposes, or shall we say 'a rush job' so I could see if everything would work the way I wanted it to. After made the video yesterday I shot some shots of the HST traversing the junction from all possible directions but on two occasions some of the points randomly changed with no input from me, the derailments were spectacular to say the least because the train was running at speed, I did manage to capture the points changing while filming a slow pass, I'll add that to tonights video. Later today I need to try and figure out if it's RailMaster causing the problem or if I'm interference as in current transition between the wires. My Christmas presents will be shown Christmas day, two of them, with sound from Keith MrSoundguy and John of YouChoos :0)
Hi Mark, I don't think it's a RailMaster problem causing the random point switching. I have had the same issue using the Elite on its own. I was using cobalt point motors with push button switching and home made circuit boards to enable me to switch crossovers with a single button, changing the switches for toggle switches and removing the circuit boards cured my problem. I know that this wont be the cause of your problem, but it looks like it may be an interference problem. Have you considered fitting a filter to your DCC bus, easily made using a capacitor and resistor. I'm sorry but I can't remember the values, but a quick google for DCC filters should produce some results. They only cost pennies and it may resolve the random point switching issue, so not a lot to lose really. Wishing you a very happy Christmas and a very prosperous new year, Chris
Hi Chris, good shout on the dcc terminators, just been having a read through some forums and it's certainly something I'll give a try, as you say it's only a matter of pence to make and can only help. Thanks again for the great advice and have yourself a very merry christmas :0), cheers, Mark
Hi Glynn and thank you, that was one drop down section done now just the other drop down near the double doors, I think I'll be needing turnouts on that so will be a little more tricky. Merry Christmas :0)
Nearly frightened me off Mark, you would have made a great station master. Like the mug (I mean the one you are drinking from). Have a great Christmas - keep up the good work - David
Sorry about that David, just thought I'd approach Christmas from a different angle this year, I think it worked as I lost 7 subscribers the day I put the video up lol. Merry Christmas and here's to looking at a great 2018.
Fantastic video Mark! Well done chap. I must say I’m amazed at how tidy the wiring is on the drop down section. Hopefully my new layouts wiring will be close to that. I wish you and Debbie a very merry Christmas. Here’s to 2018! Cheers, Ross.
Thank you Ross, wiring can be a nightmare at times but if you just keep it neat and tidy from the start then it's not so bad, just wish I'd listened to my own words of wisdom lol. Merry Christmas to you and your family mate and all the best for 2018
Thank you Vince, I was watching Des's video this morning [DJ Model Railway] and he's made an even bigger draw, it's massive lol. and Merry Christmas :0)
Hi Mark, Fiddleyard looks good so far, Doesn't look too awkward to get in and out of the garage. I would highly recommend tidying up that wiring underneath though.. I knew what mine did till I got it wrong lol! How's Debbie doing on the job front? Hope it's not all doom and gloom :) Merry Christmas! Cheers, Michael
Hi Michael, don't worry mate, I will be sorting out that mess of wires, hence why I'm drawing up a full schematic of the wiring and connectors, will do that early next year. I'm just editing some video clips I took yesterday of trains running across the junction but towards the end of the day I had some gremlins come visit, some points started operating all by themselves and while the trains were passing over them so big derailments, will be looking more closely at that today, I think it might be RailMaster but need to search some forums first.
Hi Mark, At this point I still have not seen newer videos so what I am about to say might be a waste of time but here goes. Are you still going to build the suspension bridge on the join in front of the double door? If so, will you be making the lower level scenic in that area? I ask because the veroboard used to secure the track at the joints while does a perfect job does not lend itself to a visual treat. Or, can it be disguised using ballast, scatter or other scenic materials. I am just loving staying up till two in the morning watching your videos but alas I am almost up to date. Keep them coming Mark, they are brilliant. Geoff.
Hi Geoff, yes I am still planning on building the Clifton Suspension bridge over that gap and toyed with the idea of dding scenics to the fiddle yard in that area but the left hand drop down section is very close to the door and any protruding scenics would be knocked as we come and go through that door, it's still in the agenda though, just need to work out a suitable solution, over the couple of weeks I'll be making a video detailing my plans for that section. The veroboard can be hidden by ballast, but it will need to be cut into strips to look like sleepers but not going to worry about that till I need it on the top scenic level, I do have a couple more ideas that involve copper sheets :0)
Hi Mark all looking good look forward to 2018 see what that brings well a big merry xmas and a happy new year to you and Debbie have a great one you two all the best from Tinsley tmd and yard model
Thank you matey, 2018 should see the finishing of the fiddle yard and hopefully completion of the inclines, once all that is running perfectly then I'll start on the top level, now that's an exciting thought :0) and Merry Christmas :0)
Hi Mark great to see you doing the lift sections...like the plug and socket ....where did you get it ? ....I think it’s all coming together brilliantly... 👌...regards Fred
Hi Fred, I got the connectors out of our WEEE bin at work, all our electrical waste goes in there, only trouble is I had check every wire to make sure they were ok as I had no idea why it was in there, could have been a faulty connector but all was good.
Bah bloody humbug to you too mate. It looks like you got your chin stuck in the snow last week. Nice Christmas update Mark, looking forward to your Christmas video. Cheers, David.
Lol, I had a cold last week and the moustache had to go, that and a runny nose mix a little too well lol. just editing some clips of trains running over the junction but from different directions this time
Mark, I agreed with the first comments (opening). I like the drop down section. The electrics would do my head in! Did you wire the new Aircraft carrier? A lot of work done. Happy Christmas to you and Debbie.
Lol, I'f I had wired the new aircraft carrier Nigel it would have gone up in true spectacular style. Bah Humbug, that's what my dad would say that every Christmas morning, and this time I have the same beard as his :0) Merry Christmas Nigel to you and your family and I hope 2018 brings good health to you.
Nice jumper, nice mug. But you need some WD40 for Xmas Mark lol. Regarding the drop-down section, does the door still open (outwards)? I'm just wondering if you fainted or something could people get in to rescue you? I'll wish you a Merry Xmas (first) Mark lol. Laurie.
Lol, if I should ever faint down there then Debbie would just lock the doors and throw the keys away, good riddance to the man and his blinking railway lol....... The door does open outwards, that was something I planned at the very start to ensure max space in the garage and that I could have the doors open in the summer, still have to see a summer yet though lol. Merry Christmas Laurie and all the best for 2018 mate.
Hi Mark. Great video, and loving the drop down section! Where did you get that electrical plug? Does it have a name? Looks like just what I need! Merry Christmas
Hi Ben, I found the connectors in our WEEE bin at work, our R&D department threw out a lot of electrical parts and I managed to salvage them, I can't remember what they are called when I go back to work I'll find out and also see if there's anymore in the bin which I can send you ok. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Hi again Ben, this is the part, it's called a mini-fit connector. uk.farnell.com/molex/39-01-2245/receptacle-housing-24pos-pa-natural/dp/2576124?MER=sy-me-pd-mi-alte

Great improvements, Mark. You can see what it's all about now. Loved the Bah Humbug. All the best........Reinhard
Lol, thank you again Reinhard, it was fun to make as well, that was the second take, the first had to be scrapped due to a slip of the tongue.....
wow that is a great drop down lift up section. I bet that took a great bit of time. fantastic. nice hide away for wiring behind the door. then you show the next spot .. oooooo there is a bit of work.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the tour of the layout, that wiring would give me nightmares. Great video mate. Look forward to the running session.........John.
Thank you very much John, and Merry Christmas :0)
A Very Merry Christmas to you and Debbie.
Thank you Scott and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Its great to see your progress Mark you don't let any thing beat you ! All the best . Regards Gav .
Thank you Gav, it will take a bit more than some points and track to beat me lol, and Merry Christmas :0)

All that wiring! Rather you than me.
I'm actually enjoying the wiring Andy, I like challenges lol
