    I’ve got to just say- your videos have renewed my energy for the gel plate. I had a friend show me her plate some years back . She told me what a person could do and, as a painter I was excited to dive in. It’s been a couple yrs and for the most part- I’d only see crafters and journal page ideas. I felt this venture wouldn’t go anywhere… then yesterday- one of your videos showed up on my TH-cam stream. 😮 I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! An actual artist working on the gel plate! Someone who uses the plate as a TOOL - then paints and explores - THANK YOU!
    I needed to see that it’s not JUST something to create colorful designs on paper! ❤️❤️❤️

      Thank you! I had the same frustration when I first started. There’s so much potential in the plate to do all kinds of monotype effects. I’m amazed more people don’t seem to use it this way. So glad it’s inspired you.

    A tip that helps with moving plate. put a piece of paper under the gel and draw around it. then add the tape :)

    I notice that you immediately use the plate again after cleaning it with oil. I thought that you had to wash it with soapy water before using it again. Does this not have any effect on the prints or the plate?

    • @HeartstoneArt
      @HeartstoneArt  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did use a baby wipe to clean off the plate once. I then wiped off any residue with a dry paper towel. I haven’t had any effects on my plate or my prints because of this.
      The gelli plate is actually made with mineral oil, so it won’t do it any harm.

    I love your videos...it sparked my love for the gelliplate again. In some of your videos you're using tape on your paper, to mask it. What kind of paper are you using? I have tried lots, but most of them will ruin the paper, even when I have pre-taped them on my sweater or so...

    • @HeartstoneArt
      @HeartstoneArt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use either masking tape or washi tape - but I usually find it’s the paper not the tape that’s the problem. Two things you can try:
      Try pulling your tape so that the side of the tape that lifts first is closest to the paint and not the edge of the paper. It’s more likely to lift cleanly.
      Or
      Try warming your tape with a hair drier or heat gun before you lift it. It will soften the glue and make it less likely to tape.
      If neither works, change your paper for something with a stronger sizing. Arches watercolor paper or the Blick watercolor paper I use both work well with tape.

    oh this was SO HELPFUL, I have a little round gel plate and have not been game to try anything as yet, but now I might.
    One question though, what do you use to clean off the paint from your plate?
    Thank you.

    • @HeartstoneArt
      @HeartstoneArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you!
      I just use water for cleaning, but I also have a video on how I deep clean my plate if you want to check it out.
