The overheating thing you mention, I've taken my Mini 3 pro in August to Turkey and flown it around with no overheating issues in 36 + degrees, in fact I've never had an overheating issue to date. The only time I've noticed the case getting hot is during updates when the drone is static, but that's fairly acceptable as it's not designed to be on for long periods of time and not in the air...Great comparison, look forward to the next ones...

Nice that you offered to do another comparison between the two mini drones, and a job well done. In my view the Autel has the edge over the DJI because it's equipped with a fan, but in reality the price will determine most people's choice.

Interesting results 👍. Wondering if any other Mini 3 owners are getting constant "Low Visibility" cautions? I get them no matter the lighting condition! Bright noon hour sun, to sunset, to full cloud. Changing camera settings does not help either. I have already had to have my original unit replaced because the right front Obstacle avoidance sensor failed ( which DJI didn't cover under warranty, not amused 😡)

The Autel Nano+ & Lite series drones have a triple band operating frequency - 2.400-2.4835GHz,5.725-5.850GHz,5.150-5.250GHz.
This may be the reason why the Nano+ won the transmission/signal test against the Mini 3.

Hi CAPT'N, nice job, but do you think the height flown affected the signals?
    I notice from your screen recordings the Mini3 was flown at H 1.5m (5ft) @ 7:03 - 7:53, and the Nano+ at 3.0m - 3:5m (10ft) @ 10:06 - 13:58 (2 times higher)

The tests with flying around the school is fast and easy.
But as you shown, choosing the right path is crucial for a success or failure. Your first flight with Nano failed but the second was successful.
So to draw to much/large conclusions from the test are more up to chance with drones as equal as these.
I am not saying they are without use, as they are a great reminder of the short commings of radios communication. And with the Nano test showed, don't drive the drone without sight. Especially in directions without collision avoidence when you don't have vision.
But if you really want to be more convinced about the test, you should make a couple of turns around the school and then get a success rate. Just a meter difference in the path can make a huge difference.
That said, I love your tests and videos. Keep up the good work.

Awesome comparison test. I know that the DJI Mini 3 Pro is a phenomenal drone but I do have to give some credit to Autel when it comes to signal strength/connectivity and the cooling fan in both RC and Drone which keeps them from overheating. The Mini 3 doesn’t have a fan in either the drone or Smart RC-does it? Also, you did forget to mention that the Nano does have internal memory as well like the Mini 3. In regards to the prop noise, the Mini 3 wins for sure, it sounds nice and fairly quiet to the ears. Btw, I do hear that Master Airscrew is currently working on stealth props for the Autel Nano+ (and Mini 3) 🤫 so hopefully this will lower the noise pitch a tad on the Nano+. Not sure the Mini 3 needs it, as it already has a low noise pitch. Anywho, nice test once again Steve, thanks for sharing that with us. 👍🏻

Yes, it's a fact! All the new Autel series (Nano and Lite) have 3 signal bands = 2.4, 5.2, 5.8, vs DJI, which has only 2 bands = 2.4, 5.8. Maybe that explains the stronger range ..

I’m thinking that you were very lucky with the autel nano, when you crashed into that shed and walked around to go get it and found that the props were still spinning. Quite often with an fpv drone if that were the case, you could have burnt out the esc or flight controller.

Just a heads up to anyone wanting to buy a drone in the UK, the laws have changed now, so any drone under 250g (and is not a toy with a camera) still needs a operators ID Licence (£10 a year) but you don't need a flyer id (which is free anyway). Sounds a bit confusing. Drones above 250g need operator id (£10) and flyer id (free). So you could buy a heavier drone now since a flyer id is free, and either way if the weight is less/more than 250g, you still need a operator ID. Flyer ID's can be gained after gaining a operator ID, where there is a 40 question multiple choice test, with a pass mark of 30 to get a free flyer ID. If you are under 18, to get a operator ID, your parent/guardian needs to buy it on your behalf, and the child needs to have a flyer ID. Any more questions, feel free to reply, and I'll get back to you.

As soon as Autel matches these two features I'll jump back over (had the evo 6k before, a pile of unfinished junk) The main thing for me, that Autel has over dji is the lack of geofencing.

I like the sound of the DJI propellers better but it not having a fan and over heating isn’t great if you want to shoot TikTok videos from a table. Might want to bring an ice 🧊 pack to lay under the drone. Very interested to learn about active track compared to how well the system works on the hubsan Zino SE. that drone is so cheap by comparison and the active track is phenomenal! #stayepic

It would be interesting to do the same test using the DJI RC Pro Controller. Since it has external antenna’s. I’m wondering if there’s a significant improvement in functionality?
Great job on your part in showing the features of each drone!

    • @AndersJackson
      @AndersJackson ปีที่แล้ว

It will probably improve with an external antenna in these extreme cases.
But so will also where you fligh, just a meter per two could be the difference between success and failure.
Remember the same Nano and transfer failed om first flight and success on second flight.
So, you should really make a couple of flights to even out the odds of flying the right, optimal track, or on a failure track.
That said, it is a hard tack för radios to transmit and recieve, so it will show the strength of drone radio systems. The method has some questions though. 😎😉

I’ve seen enough, I like the camera on the nano, it’s cheaper, the fact autel actually sells a fly more bundle that includes a drone with a controller is enough for me. I really don’t like the way DJI is packaging their stuff so much now. The mini 3 and that Avata set ups were not so good. You get much more value for your money with autel.

Cap, the penetration test is not really penetration, at the gigahertz level signal does not penetrate... what the drone might get is signals that bounces somewhere.. sometimes you are better off pointing the remote somwhere else instead of directly to where the drone is. It might propagate by boucing somewhere else.

I like that the mini 3 has some onboard storage. But the worst feature are the three letters on top, DJI. I don't think I can buy another DJI product after my mavic 1 and Inspire being locked and unable to take off in controlled airspace after entering my FAA clearance info.

So you can't avoid Chinese products.
