220g short grain rice (Japanese rice)
    1/2 tsp salt
4-5 tbsp boiling water (more or less)
    Sesame oil
    1. Pour short grain rice into a bowl. Add water, wash and drain. Repeat until the water drains clear. Soak the rice in clean water overnight.
    2. Strain the rice and grind in a food processor until fine. Sift into a bowl. Some rice pieces are big to sift, so you must grind them again in a food processor.
    3. Add salt to the flour and boiling water one tablespoon at a time mixing completely before adding another. How much water you need depends on the moisture of your flour. Knead until you have a soft and smooth dough.
    4. Place the rice cake dough in a steamer and steam over medium high heat for 30 minutes.
    5. Spread sesame oil on work surface. Put steamed rice cake on work surface and pound with a pestle, until the dough becomes smooth and elastic. This can take a few minutes. The longer you pound, the chewier the rice cakes will be.
    6. Divide into 4 equal pieces. Take one piece and knead until soft. Roll into a long cylinder, and cut into 5cm pieces or the size you desire. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
    7. Spread sesame oil on your hands and rub the rice cakes. It gives good flavor and prevents them from sticking to each other. They taste best fresh. Refrigerate for 2-3 days.

    220 gramas de arroz Japonês
1/2 colher de chá de sal fino
4-5 colheres de sopa de água fervendo
    óleo de gergelim

I would like to share a thing. In the north east India, there's a desert recipe made of rice flour. The making process of rice flour is same as I remember my granny doing, except here we have a special instrument called, "dheki" which we use for making any kind of flour in bulk. And when I started watching worldwide content, Garaetteok and tteokbokki and mochi makes me think of that desert from my homeland, I hated on a lot and called it intemidating and boring, and stuff. Because of internet, I learned how important it is to love foods that you grew up eating. I love watching it and I will love trying it at home. ❤️

For those who is wondering does this recipe works, I have tried it and it works! But you have to grind the rice until it is very fine and powdery, which takes a lot of time for me and my food processor. You also have to make sure that you don't overcooked it in the steamer, or you will get a very hard dough. Other than that, it was a success and it tastes very GOOD! Not like many other recipes that has flour after taste, this one taste just like the one I buy in the restaurant!

For people saying this is our recipe, you copied us, here’s a few things to be noted:
    1. No food is truly ours. ( like how no one knows the true origin of noodles. You can google it out.)
    2. All cultures have similarities. ( like how we have Navarathri and the Japanese have the doll festival or like how we have Pongal and the Koreans have a similar harvest festival)
If you meant those as a joke then fine, nice one. If not, I suggest you actually learn world history properly for once.
    Good day~💜

Not to mention that we have been making rice cakes for thousands of years. Earliest mention of Korean rice cakes can be found in the royal Korean cook book dating back 400 B.C. And it’s very natural that multiple cultures could invent something simultaneously or at various times without contact with each other. Especially a simple product such as rice cakes that uses 3 basic ingredients - rice, salt, and water

I made this yesterday and made roughly 21 tteokbokkis! But lemme just say that I'm never doing this again. It took like 3 hours JUST to grind and sift the rice because I had to grind the rice in 3 sections. One section took like an hour or so because it would keep solidifying at the bottom of the food processor and I would have to keep scraping and mixing it again. Also, it takes a loonng time for it to become a powder texture. Sifting was so frustrating!!! All that labor only made 21.. NOT WORTH IT LOL. But it taste pretty good tho. Just be prepared for a VERY time consuming recipe.

In Tamilnadu, India, We do the same rice cakes with the exact recipe. The rice type and shape may differ. People used to make these rice cakes and present them to the "Maariyamman" god as a ritual.
