Thank you to John, Paul, George, Ringo, and all of those who were instrumental in getting this music out to the world.
Tbh they just get better over time. I was there almost right from the beginning (Spring of '63 I was in a band in Uk, playing Shadows covers, and at the end of a gig our bass guitarist asked me, as we cleared our stuff up, 'have you heard this new group, the Beatles?' -'No' - 'you should listen to them, they're good.'). Yes, they were fantastic then, but I get even more impressed now by the feeling, the meaning, the extraordinary timing, the incredible harmonies, etc.
It's interesting. As the initial core of Beatles fans get older, our level of music appreciation grows and develops. We listen more to the intricate harmonies, are amazed at their ability to stay in tune while live in concert, the beautiful melodies, etc. And we find more to be amazed at by these 4 chaps from Liverpool.
When John wrote this song he originally planned on singing both parts. Unfortunately he couldn’t reach some of the high notes in the chorus and Paul sang it instead.
@@franke981 it is more to do with the arrangement of the song when John is required to come in at a lower register right after Paul's high part. Something reverse of Love me do when Paul has to go low just before John's harmonica part. They were always experimenting to sound interesting.
As the years have gone by, it's easy to forget what a sweet voice John had. He was a wonderful singer, and when teamed with the rest of the lads it was absolute magic.

@@WD5035 You're probably right. Mike Pachelli breaks the chord down completely in a video. He thinks what we hear on the record is a mix of guitar and piano. The chord can't really be played unless you use your other hand to reach a certain fret and strum the chord with your other hand's pinky. 🤣 In live recordings they never played the full chord....because it wasn't really possible to do.
I was at a Wings' concert at MSG in the late 80's. Paul began the set with this tune, and on cue, everyone started to scream and cry. Most of us were thirty and over at the time. We were like Pavlovian dogs, proving you can take the Beatles away, but you can't remove them from souls that will always admire them.
I saw Paul on the same tour that year, 3,000 miles away from where you did, in Berkeley, CA. But me and thousands of others had the same reaction as you did. We started crying. If I recall correctly, it was the first time that Paul played a significant number of Beatles songs in concert since the break-up. That was partly why everyone freaked out with the opening hard Day's Night number. He also had a video of the Beatles on each side of the stage, which guaranteed not a dry eye in the place :)
John Lennon was an amazing singer, performer and artist. I know everyone came to love Paul more, and fair enough, but John was so incredibly amazing. God bless him.
@@jackhamilton1882 Meh. It was democratic. John certainly started the band. He and Paul created their sound along with George Martin. I think Paul wrote the first two songs that pushed them to fame in the US.
Paul was more revolutionary musically. And even politically - he was the one who knocked on the door of Bertrand Russell who talked about anti Vietnam war - Paul then told John.
Pop radio of that time pretty much demanded a playing time not to exceed 2 1/2 minutes (and usually under 2 minutes). It was only late in the 60's and early 70's that AOR (Album Oriented Rock) stations started playing longer versions of songs from albums (the 'single' versions were almost always abridged versions for AM airplay).

A Hard Day's Night is a 1964 musical comedy film starring the English rock band the Beatles-John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr-during the height of Beatlemania. It was originally released in the United States on August 11, 1964 by United Artists. The film was a financial and critical success and was nominated for two Academy Awards including Best Original Screenplay. Forty years after its release, Time magazine rated it as one of the 100 all-time great films.
You can NOT ever criticise the sheer musicianship of them. All the chords and notes hit spot on. I don’t know if the sound has been cleaned up a bit but even with a couple of vocal struggles that Paul conquered, it is superb.

Actually I wonder if it wasn't playback ? It sounds just too accurate, and I heard that this solo, on the album, was doubled with piano and recorded slower.
@@pierre2497 Yeah, you could be right about that. They had a knack of sometimes replicating the record quite closely, but also they could be somewhat shonky. I love George's playing, but he could be ropey at times. This is just too accurate and I can hear another instrument below the guitar, as you said. I think Paul really enjoyed being a Beatle more than the other three. He was deeply depressed and drinking heavily after their break-up. Linda deserved a lot of credit for helping him out of it, so I've heard. Without Paul, there would be no "Sergeant Pepper", Magical Mystery Tour" and"Abbey Road", to name a few. Yes, his perfectionism and heavy handedness in the studio was well documented. But after Brian Epstein died, no one else stepped up to take the lead. Finally, everything just imploded. But he was truly dedicated to the band until it was clear they couldn't work together anymore.
I agree with what you said. Paul said he was depressed and drinking heavily for a couple of years after The Beatles broke up, yet he still made McCartney and Ram. He's still playing 2 & 1/2 hour concerts today. Also, he was right about Allen Klein being a crook. He played the most instruments and had the best vocals in the group, too. Also, Paul has always maintained that without the 4 of them they wouldn't have become The Beatles. He's truly respectful of their legacy, as well. Take care and Peace!
Paul couldn't imagine his life without the Beatles at the time, while John and George practically only imagined it without them. Paul was really a "team player". His solo career spanning more than fifty years is a certainty of this. It doesn't even come close musically. It is also true that he was the most skilled in terms of both singing and playing instruments, but he was far behind John in terms of charisma and individuality (although he was also the handsome boy, the favorite of young girls). And the latter are almost more important factors in art.
John was the major brilliance in the Beatles As talented as Paul,George and Ringo were,it was John's writing and singing that was the driving force behind the Beatles
@@blissfulbaboon Actually, it was the alchemy and synergy of all 4 members who made them what they were. I've heard many times and on many different songs that they were so tight that often they nearly "telepathically" made slight changes and adjustments on songs that they were working on. When I was young I was more of a "Lennonist," but just listening to them continue to grow and experiment with new sounds I realized that all of them "were in on it." In fact, that's "the secret" to the Beatles. Being a musician myself that's what I finally figured out. I've never seen or heard such consistent versatility since. My favorite Lennon Beatles song is Dear Prudence. Ringo had quit briefly and Paul not only played melodic bass lines, but his drumming was instrumental to the flow, also. George's guitar fills were exquisite, and their multi-tracked backing vocals were spot on. Take care and Peace!

We listen more to the intricate harmonies, are amazed at their ability to stay in tune while live in concert, the beautiful melodies, etc. And we find more to be amazed at by these 4 chaps from Liverpool.

John's guitar tone is so good here
I love how, at 55 second point, John points at Paul, as if to say: “Your turn, Paul.”

When John wrote this song he originally planned on singing both parts. Unfortunately he couldn’t reach some of the high notes in the chorus and Paul sang it instead.

How to create a musical iconic masterpiece that is instantly recognisable by a single opening chord
The chord that changed the world, on a 12 string Rickenbacker. Go George.
It's an F add 9 over D
@@pay9011 They did not even know it by that name.
@@pay9011 George used to say " It's an F, with a G on top... but you'd have to ask Paul what he plays"... Whatever it is, it's a fab song.

It was Lennon. It was his band. The manager and producer definitely favored Paul

Paul was more revolutionary musically. And even politically - he was the one who knocked on the door of Bertrand Russell who talked about anti Vietnam war - Paul then told John.
It's incredible how short a lot of their songs were. They fit everything in 2.5 mins and didn't need any more. Even Eleanor Rigby is only 2 mins.
Thank you, i had not ever considered how long the songs are. CJ x
@@Mr62Lincoln That's a good point but I still think it's exceptional the amount of ideas the average Beatles song contained within that framework, like the three different sections of Happiness Is a Warm Gun.

Stunning! George's solo on that 12-string Rickenbacker was perfect
He looks like he's focused and playing the right notes though lol! John really looks at one with his guitar in this video.
@@sporkfindus4777 I think it’s a soft backing track but George is still trying to play it? If you see him in the back briefly, you can see him hitting the fingering the solo although it’s low res, actually now that I read the first comment properly, he’s probably playing over a single track of the solo to get the double effect

The first chord probably the resume of all the rock and history is in it!
@@blissfulbaboon True.
