Yeah, "doves" came before "thugs" but that was a logical and intriguing remark about connection between two amazing artists :-) It's almost impossible to explain 80's videos sometimes, haha, but in this one there is a mix of the "Purple Rain" movie scenes and Prince's visual creativity, I guess. I think he came to that lake and was simply reminiscing, seeing himself with the girl in his mind only. How much of this story is based on real life remains a mystery. I think you need to watch the Purple Rain movie. :) Lots of it is symbolism, and roughly tells his life story. Great music and visual impact.
