Good video. I diagnosed my daughters malibu over the phone and decided the fan motor needed to be replaced. Got the job done and everything is working fine. When I got the old fan home, I noticed the electrical terminals were quite dirty and I cleaned them off, applied 12 vdc and the fan works perfectly. I would just recommend cleaning the terminals first before replacing the motor. It could be cheaper.

Thank you so much for this video! I went to the shop today and they estimated $375 to do this job on a 2011 Malibu. I bought the part myself from Advanced Auto Parts the motor costs $106 I used a 22% off coupon bout it for $89 w tax, followed your instructions and saved myself almost $300. It took me about 38 minutes. Also now they sell the entire blower motor and bracket as one part the hardest part was getting in a good position to screw the new motor in.
I wish I saw this before I jumped the gun and dropped $400 to get my blower motor replaced in my 2012 malibu. Lesson learned... when anything else fails, go to TH-cam!!

Excellent video thank you very much however I ran into the little snafu where the four tabs inside the factory plastic cover that you got to transfer onto the new motor prevented the electrical harness on the motor to pop through it so I grind them off and Bamm, perfect fit. So I made my little video and post it on TH-cam if anybody else will have that issue
Thanks for the video. - made removal so easy! I think I would have gotten frustrated and broke something while cutting the adhesive, but your demonstration eased the pain a bit. My replacement was all-in-one. I just had to screw the unit back in. I think it would have been a little easier if it had the separate bracket like yours, but still works great.

thanks for the vid. but you need a camera buddy cuz when you dont show certain stuff it make it really diffucult to do..but its kinda like a altenator replacement fairly easy..also i found if you take off the glove box it gives you more visual for bolt and gasket lign of sight..
is it possible for an air freshener to get stuck in the blower motor squirrel can? Like, what are the chances? That is what the dealer told my friend caused a loud blowing noise when running the A/C. Makes no sense to me, but I'm not an expert on cars. So, just wondering.
@@All4HimRacingVideos after watching this and other videos here I stuck my head under the dash and discovered the hush panel gone and that the blower motor had already been replaced before I bought my 08 Malibu. Should make it even easier to replace again without having to cut around the motor. Just gotta hope it's that just the motor and not it and the resistor.
For the brand we purchased, yes, we had to purchase the gasket kit separately. Some replacement motors come as a kit with new gaskets and others do not. Unfortunately you will need to do your own research before you buy.
I would first check to make sure the pins that the connector slide down over are not bent or miss aligned, causing it not to be able to plug all the way down. Did it come apart easy but just not working for the new part?
did you have difficulty getting the plug to line up? i have it seated all the way but its not far enough to line up plugs. after market blower (same as yours) has a bracket on top that prevents it from seating far enough down.
@@bretrodeback3801 check to see if the screws that hold the plate on top of the blower motor are hitting on the tabs inside the plastic cover. There are four and two were hitting on the top of mine . I used a rotary tool to grind them down.
To be honest I cannot recall, and I do not have any spare parts at the shop for this. Good option is to take your screws to a hardware or home supply store, they will have thread gauges to help determine the screw needed.
I’m dealing with this issue right now. Only thing is when I bench test the motor it works fine but maybe a little bit sluggish. Could the climate control system be that sensitive to a motor thats just starting to go bad maybe?
The motors run capacitor may be failing if its sluggish at times or struggling to maintain speed. What symptoms did you experience before you removed to bench test?
@@All4HimRacingVideos The motor was not operable at all, however after posting this inquiry, I took a stab at examining the resistor and just by touching the resistor connector, the motor suddenly sprung to life. However I noted signs of slight heat buildup in the wire sheathes by the slight brown discoloration they had.
@@All4HimRacingVideos After doing some further research, I concluded that with the motor running sluggish, I believe the bearings inside were worn. (I need to invest in an inductive amp clamp so I can measure amp draw). This would explain the browning of the wires to the resistor because excessive draw puts more of a load through them, which means excessive heat buildup. So I went ahead and just replaced the motor and took the resistor connector apart and resecured the terminals with solder and that seems to have done the trick. Thanks for your help!
IDK how the hell you held it in place and got the screws started. I’m laying upside down, holding it to with one hand and trying to start one screw with the order and can’t get it. How the F do you see the ones in the back???

Do you hear the fan running? If not, than I would think either blower motor or maybe as easy a fix as a blown fuse.
It’s going to be your blower motor resistor.
Some replacement parts don't come with mounting screws. What size are they?
Was the gasket kit a sperate order from blower motor?
For the brand we purchased, yes, we had to purchase the gasket kit separately. Some replacement motors come as a kit with new gaskets and others do not. Unfortunately you will need to do your own research before you buy.

Hmmmm, sounds like the connection has degraded. If possible, you may be able to re-solder the connections.

You should be able to reuse the hardware from when you remove old assembly.
Does a new wheel come with the new motor?
Yes it should. I am yet to see a time when it does not.
Is it the same for a 2007?
Not familiar with that model year, I would expect it to be similar but this video might not be the best guide for that specific year
