  • ✨✨Heads up- there is no tranquil or upbeat music on the scenic clips- I wanted you to be able to hear the struggle in my breathe as we trekked up some of these climbs. Not every hike is a peaceful walk. Some are challenging ass kickers- and this was one of them. ✨✨
    .
    .
    Follow along as we spent the last few days of 2020 hiking 60 miles along The North Georgia Loop.
    This loop consists of three trails- The Appalachian Trail, Benton MacKaye Trail and Duncan Ridge.
    It took us 4.5 days to hike the 60 miles and 15k feet of elevation.
    .
    .
    For Navigation we used Guthooks Guides for the Appalachian Trail and the Benton MacKaye Trail. For the Duncan Ridge we followed along on the AllTrails app. AllTrails is a free app that works with GPS for navigation. It is not as reliable as Guthooks for finding camping and water sources however- it worked adequately for the 20 ish miles along the Duncan Ridge section.

    We had a blast! Thanks for watching! Consider liking and subscribing !

    Great hike report. Did section 3 of the BMT (Skeenah Gap to Hwy 60) last year. My first real hike. It was difficult to say the least. Plan on doing the Duncan Ridge from Mulky Gap to Skeenah Gap this year.

    Congrats on finishing the GA Loop! I hate to be "That Guy" but a couple of correction....First, it's pronounced Benton Mack-EYE as in your eyeballs. Second, there is a bear cannister requirement on Blood Mountain as you mentioned but it doesn't apply to Woods Hole Shelter as they have a heavy steel bearproof box that campers can put all their food in.

    • @JessikaaPoppe
      @JessikaaPoppe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Woods Hole Shelter is included in the bear canister requirements from March 1st to June 1st- there is literally a sign posted in the shelter. I agree- it shouldn’t be because there is a bear box there; however- there are many references that can be found online that state the requirements of using a bear can during those times.
      Thanks for the pronunciation assistance as well :)

      @@JessikaaPoppe Thanks for setting me straight. Sorry, I was just using common sense logic and sometimes it doesn't apply to government regs! If a bear is smart/powerful enough to get in a steel bear box, he can get in a plastic jar! Good luck with future hikes!

      I would guess it’s more for the times when boxes are full because of crowds . It’s gets pretty crowded in the middle of GA section of AT in thru hiker season . A lot of people will just camp before the section or blast thru it and not worry about it . I haven’t slept in a shelter on the AT in decades . By choice .

      Melanzana Micro grid hoodie from Leadville Colorado. You have to purchase them in store as they don’t ship online. There are a few other companies that make these hoodies similar now- or you could try Appalachian Gear CO’s Alpaca hoodies ! Super warm and comfy!
