I realise that the woman I am talking about is obviously Carol King who wrote the song for Aretha *face palm* she is all over the backdrop on the stage too :) - plus the year of Aretha's performance was in 2015 not 2016 as I'd said in the video
The choices Angelina makes for every cover she sings are remarkable. I have said before, Angelina doesn't cover songs, she completes them. Her voice hugs my soul and soothes my spirit. Her humanity and her music has greatly improved the quality of my life and I am sure there are countless others who feel the same way.
I hadn’t seen that performance from Aretha so thanks for that bonus, was as overwhelmed as when hearing ABBA again. We are so lucky to have Angelina to keep great songs and artists alive.
This is wonderful. Aretha’s version is the moving definition of the word “anthem”. Angelina’s version is the tender, touching definition of the word “tribute”. 💜 Thank you for doing your reaction in your own, inimitable way. 👍
Is that accurate as Angelina posted this days after Aretha's passing? That just makes it sound like Angelina jumped on a trend and so I'm not sure about that
Aretha Franklin is a true legend. One of the all time greats. And the song performed by her is also one of the best recorded songs. Timeless as so many, if not all of the best songs are. I think Angelinas rendition is quite genius. I belive the whole production, her way of singing understated, no reverb on the 🎤 and her appearance, no make up, no filter all points to the song being sung by "a natural woman" or natural girl rather. Great reaction. Please continue your reactions to this gem of a singer.
We know that Angelina could have belted this song, but she toned it down as a sign of respect to Aretha Franklin. You could hear the sadness in her voice. The video fades at the end and the screen turns to black for few seconds as a sign of mourning. Angelina always classy and respectful. Thanks again for another great reaction video.
It's strange but to me she is the perfect human. Her humbleness, her actions and her abilities are just beyond comparison. Don't know how to explain it but I listen to her every day. Makes me feel better than going to church ever did. No offense.
Yes, sounds strange...but listening to Angelina singing is like medicine for the soul. I'll go to my grave standing by those words. I'll worship my creator first and foremost, and always thank him for HIS greatness. Angelina seems to be the best of all of his creations, other than his heavenly angels. Seems he blessed us with one in the flesh.
The lady you are referring to is the great Carole King who not only was a huge song writer for herself but she wrote many songs for other artists including Natural Woman. Carole was presented the Gershwin Prize for a Popular song by President Obama. Other winners include Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. The Queen of Soul sounded as good as ever at this performance. Angelina's tribute was a very respectful toned down version and I believe if she was to perform the entire song in this same style it would be a hit song for her. The passion in the delivery of it and her ability to stress certain words in the lyrics is genius. Enjoyed this reaction with both renditions was very thoughtful and enjoyable. Thank you so much for both versions DancingCoder.
👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ Very nice touch adding Aretha's performance at the beginning. What an incredible singer she was. Angelina's heartfelt tribute is characteristically understated and reverential.
This was a tribute in honor of the life and career of singer-songwriter Carol King, the woman in the balcony who got so excited by Aretha Franklin's appearance. Carol King wrote, and had a hit with, the song, "Natural Woman." Aretha covered it and had a super hit with it. It shows that if Aretha chooses to do your song, it isn't your song anymore. BTW, this is no problem for the songwriter because it's a huge compliment to have a great A-list singer cover your material. It can also generate substantial royalties to the owner of the copyrights. I don't know about this particular example, but I once looked up the royalties that Dolly Parton received from Whitney Huston's cover of Dolly's song, "I Will Always Love You." It was $10 million at the time. Easy to see why Carol king has nothing but love for Aretha Franklin. Carol King was pretty much at the end of the, so called, Tin Pan Alley era, in New York where song writers converged to create the popular music of their day. Someone mentioned Carol King's (vinyl) album, Tapestry. Tapestry is one of the very top selling albums of all time, and Carol King wouldn't be a bad performer to react to. Angelina created this video at the time of Aretha Franklin's passing. It was meant to honor and memorialize Aretha. That is why the performance is so subdued. I think that needs to be taken into account in order to fully appreciate Angelina's performance.
I could be wrong, but I believe this song was originally released by Aretha in 1967. Carol did not release her version until she released her International hit album "Tapestry" in 1971. So even though the song was co-written by Carol (she wrote the music and her husband at the time, Gerry Goffin, wrote the lyrics), the original should be credited to Aretha.
Angelina could have sang it like Aretha but this was her tribute and did it much softer as a mark of respect and that’s why it fads out at the end into just a black screen.Aretha was one of Angelina’s favourite singers and was buying her albums when she was about 5 years old so she’s been listening to her for a long time Love 💕 from Denise in Yorkshire England 🏴👼👼👸🏻👸🏻🦶🦶👏👏💕👍🥰👋
Now that's what I call a tribute, if Angelina is feeling it, she can make one feel it, what ever it is IMHO. Another nice reaction to the voice of the future, thumbs up sir.
Just binge watched all your AJ reactions. Great job and we really appreciate you promoting the original videos and AJs page. Looking forward to seeing more reactions from you to the greatest singer that I've ever heard. There are many great singers out there but there's only one Angelina. She's the only one that can make me cry.
I love both performances! Angelina is quite the genious in that without changing the lyrics or melody, she turns one of the most beautiful love songs between (presumably) a man and a woman into a heartfelt tribute from a young girl to a trailblazing female icon. That is wisdom way beyond her years, even before she shows us she has the ability to carry it out wonderfully. Sidenote: It is easily within Angelina’s range to go up an octave in the chorus, like the original. Instead she chooses to go lower, which gives a much more somber impression, well fitting the occasion. It is also something female singers, never mind young girls, very rarely do. Angelina obviously had a strong sense of herself as an artist already at his age, recognising her influences but doing things her own way.
I'm glad you showed us the rendition by the fabulous Aretha Franklin. Carly Simon wrote it and was crazy happy to see her there to sing it in her honor. Great reaction, man.
Bloody hell Aretha! Thanks for that, I’ve never seen it before! As for AJ a classy, stripped back tribute to one of her inspirations..love the format DancingCoder ..great stuff))
I really appreciate how creative you are in presenting a video. Adding in Aretha's performance of "A Natural Woman", just highlights how wonderful Angelina performed this song, understated and with much respect, soft and beautiful. Thanks for what you do.
Carol King wrote many wonderful songs that others made popular. Natural Woman was just one of the great songs on Tapestry, which was a must have album in 1971. James Taylor's You've Got a Friend also came from Tapestry - do it if you get a chance. Cheers.
@@DancingCoder a total remake. It is not the same song. Both are great. She, as a child flipped the script. I'm not sure but she may have been influenced by someone's cover. Also impromptu ,only one or maybe two takes
I think it was a great idea to show the original before the cover, you should do more of it, maybe not the full song from the original but at least a clip to give a comparison. I just saw another reactor do that with I put a spell on you and it really showcased the way Angelina managed to stay true to the original by keeping key elements while still making it her own. Can't wait to see more :)
So when it comes to a singer/song writer or just one or the other. Never have I heard of someone that had a shocking performance that everyone was speechless and truly in disbelief! as a child, then to put out dozen's of performances with the same effect and just doesn't stop! One after another? I hope you get around to "It's a mans world" Live with the orchestra.
A great song, two great singers and obviously the great Carol King. Angelina sang a number of tribute songs in 2018. Perhaps to follow this you could react to her tribute to her friend, Avicii, he died in April 2018, she recorded this a few days later, Wake me Up, from her grandma's YT channel - th-cam.com/video/F5omCuTQ9S0/w-d-xo.html This young lady can interpret songs like no other, who else could take an EDM song and make a reflective ballad - she is the music...
I like your honest description of saying ,that Obama was in attendance at Aretha's performance instead of saying that Aretha had sung for him ; Unlike many reactors to a performance of Angelina at a benefit where Obama was in attendance. Many reactors to this performance of Angelina reported and fostered the false claim that Angelina had sung for him , instead of honestly saying honestly that Obama was in attendance, as was a great many other prominent people at this benefit show. Sadly that leftist false claim has permeated a vast many reactors , to the discredit to Angelina's focus in her career to benefit and raise money for homeless destitute childrens causes around the world. These leftist, it seems will go any and length to uphold, use anyone to put their socialist hero's in the lime light.
Amended comment - I’m almost certain you know James Taylor, so instead, please give these 2 consideration. They are polar opposites and may seem strange coming from an old guy, but oh, well! 1) The Warning - Enter Sandman by Metallica. Never liked metal at all (and still don’t) but these 3 sisters from Mexico are great. This requires a 2 version listen. The first when they were very young and the second with Alessia Cara, who I’d never heard of before. 2) Voctave doing the Disney Princess Medley. Don’t know if your daughter is old enough for Disney movies - never seen one myself and don’t remember why I listened to this in the first place. However, glad I did, as it’s just wonderful music. Everything about it is awesome - acapella can’t get much better than this.
Just seen my reply isnt here so forgive me :) - Ill listen to the Voctave one now as I have a plan for my first intro to The Warning which is coming soon :)

Angelina transformed an iconic, belting anthem into an intimate, emotional, powerful love song. What a star!
I hadn’t seen that performance from Aretha so thanks for that bonus, was as overwhelmed as when hearing ABBA again. We are so lucky to have Angelina to keep great songs and artists alive.
So glad to hear another person wishing Angelina to be as successful as she wants to be, rather than assuming what she wants.
This is wonderful. Aretha’s version is the moving definition of the word “anthem”. Angelina’s version is the tender, touching definition of the word “tribute”. 💜
Thank you for doing your reaction in your own, inimitable way. 👍
Angelina's version is also a tribute to Carol, not Aretha, as great as the latter was.
Is that accurate as Angelina posted this days after Aretha's passing? That just makes it sound like Angelina jumped on a trend and so I'm not sure about that
@@DancingCoder I don't know what her intent was. I do know it's not a typical Angelina 'tribute'. But you might be right.
