There was also a very interesting visit in the Gurney vs Hempel game yesterday: Hempel was on 250, Daryl was on 309, started with single 19, but he felt it was such a good marker that he stayed there and actually ended up hitting the 133 to leave 176 instead of going up to try for 170. But there really are quite a few guys now like Luke Humphries or Dirk, who are actually good counters, but almost always start 305 or 308 on the 20s because they back themselves to hit the 180 or at least the first two T20s.
Edgar, I agree with your description what a great match is. One of my favorite game is Doets vs van Leuven, there's quality, 95+ average first nine, some great checkouts, a 9 darter attempt, and crucially - that mad 33-dart leg.
Have been listening to this tugged in my blanket having a tea and chocolate muffin trying to cope with yesterday. So many seeds out. It's a disaster. I wish I could go back to your time zone and watch the darts in another parallel. However, could you maybe do a video on your advanced counting? I know my checkouts and why I'm picking them, so I somehow know where I want to go, but I've not got a formula yet how to set them up early. Cheers and have a merry Christmas.
I think Andy is spot on with his rant. Too many players, including some of the big boys and PL regulars, just don't seem to be professional and don't prepare well enough. I'm also don't buy some peoples explanation that the many upsets in TV events over the past 6 months have to do with those guys being too tired or overplayed. I genuinely think with the rise in prize funds, some of the guys in the top 20 don't have the hunger anymore and become lazy, being totally fine with just collecting the money from a few wins on tv here and there plus what they earn from exhibitions.
I’m obsessing over checkouts and set ups for checkouts at the moment. I’ve stumbled across a 2 horrible numbers - 345 and 346 - what do people go for if they are on these? Just go for a 180 and leave the lowest bogey number option?
Don't agree with Andy's counting rant... I've coached 12 players & we never did counting. 9 players succeeded & only 5 failed... not sure what happened to the other 3.
