The BDO/WDF hasn’t been relevant since Glen Durrant moved over to the PDC. It used to be prestigious but now it’s just a feeder tournament for future PDC tour card holders. If anything Modus/ADC are the 2nd biggest Darts promotion atm, WDF are down to 3rd.
Still in the club. All 17.2 of them. Great podcast again. Love the insight every week. Having Connor on was a great addition getting all his thoughts and the practice routine he does is something I plan on putting into my own. Just need to get back to practicing again 🤦♂️
The BDO/WDF it is the original world professional darts championship if you don't play for it you can't win it. I'd watch more world championships in darts if any more came into being like I watched the WDC/PDC back in 1994/1995. The PDC is the splinter version or the money version and is much better championship but its not the original. Players go after the money, match room sport bought majority stake back in 2001 is the reason for the money originally saving the PDC. with Barry Hearn then persuading top BDO/WDF Players to cross over and adding the cash in that he already had due to snooker & boxing just to start the PDC rising up till the PDC could make enough money to keep itself going strong. Barry Hearn took the gamble and it paid of. While the BDO fell apart due to poor management decisions causing cash issues. WDF I hope gets it right in long term, which will be hard given that the PDC takes the players due to splashing the cash, which the WDF has not got. The WDF Needs needs to find promoters in my opinion to run top tournaments.
Great show with Connor. With regards to wdf worlds I'd say it is a world championship because events and players qualify from all over the world however it is amateur. It used to be called the BDO World Professional Championship which I did take Umbridge with.
Great Podcast Gents, Matt, you’re still young enough to enjoy 2025 in Comms, maybe exhibitions? , heal the arm etc And come back if you so wish down the road.
To me its 100% a World Championship. A good comparison to the World Championship discussion is boxing and all the belts they have for the same weight class Ring Magazine, WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and even IBO. You can have multiple 'world champions' in the same weight class and nobody likes that either but the reality is they are world champions. Matt hit the nail on the head with the Saudi shout. At one point in the not too distant future I think you'll see a new Saudi boxing belt/organisation created which may eventually make the rest irrelevant as boxers will only want to compete for the one that pays the most money. Same could happen with other sports like darts.
I friggin love Connor, man
In the US the WDF would be considered semi professional
Theres a player in my team in the local league that's known as three leg Steve because he would always do what Matt did to get the most tons

Fair Comment
That's rubbish
@@Ochechris In what way? Name the top BDO/WDF players since Glen moved over?
Don't listen to oche Chris - club foot strikes again
Andy has become the professional! Matt's mic sounds like he's in a toilet this week? Great podcast anyway.
Wouldn't be us without tech issues ...

Great shout
Amateur world championship yes not professional, it didn’t have that feel that it used to have either unfortunately.
