The owner of the dart shop I go to does this as well when it’s not too busy.. i went in there for my first darts and told him i had no clue what I wanted and no technique either and he made me throw at least 40 different darts :p

what a terrific program! To have someone that knowledgeable do the mix-n-match for you and have all the equipment options on the table is what everyone should be able to do when they want to get even a little better. I wish we had a program like this in our area in Canada. I think I even picked up some tips for MYSELF just by watching this video.

For years I was convinced a straight barrel dart was what I needed . Years later I play really well with a John Lowe dart !

You can spend days on end messing about trying to find "the right dart" that instantly makes you more accurate. But as long as the dart flies well and lands at a good angle in the board, the rest is down to your physical makeup. You're either genetically suited or not. Much like most sports.

30:00 I disagree with the statement about the points.
Yes, you can change angles with flights and stems, but if you use a shorter stem for example, it will effect the stability of the dart.
I kinda wish more companies would fit darts with 35mm points as standard.
I agree. If Andy recommends molded flights, having a point with a taper to reduce the lip on the darts is going to be more beneficial than a standard point configuration that will only chew up the darts and give wild deflections. There’s a reason the pros do it

Shall be an aid in helping a beginner or guys not so long began playing the Darts and so much as man sais flights / stems in this day and age ..Ive thrown darts since 1974 in house and then when old enough in bars in Scotland
and i had the game in me from the off i often heard and proved with some cracking good legs darts inc in team games

My mate Stevie from Scotland originally he is the real deal and had his name in darts World Magazine not for nothing
some yrs ago as when on his game with often 180s and 100 plus check outs .
Stevie he was made for the oche and he has his walk on ready for the tv cams if he gets the chance to shine which he is not why ? Jealousy ..his walk on song is with the line in the song > Its my turn to stand out from the crowd"
Song was by none other than " Rod the Mod Stewart " from his album " TIME " Would suit Stevie to a tea
and on top of that guys a very good darter who once played late Jocky Wilson for little money in around 1978/9
and practiced alone in a lounge bar with Jocky for a time as well as they ssat together for a time in Wembleys conference centre in London in 1979 after Jocky called in after flying back to UK from Usa .
And some player as said when on his day Stevie is ..He also has made up a poem few yrs ago now in fact 5 yrs ago
and put this poem up online which now Stevie wishes he never did .
Anyhow he has this poem he wrote himself about the area he was born and raised , and it again suits Stevie to a tea
his personal poem he made up himself goes alike this guys / lassies now hope you like
which now sits pride of place in his living room within a frame and i think Stevie deserves a like and his name should be mentioned for his poem in which deserves to have went out although big mistake online sadly but here it is again below.

Even watching, you could see the difference with barrels, level of grip, stem length & how they were altering their flight to the board & angle of entry.
Thanks, just show's we all have different throws but if you have the "right" dart for you , you'll get to know the dart & when it's off , the correction is far easier to make.

Learned great amount from this video. Currently going through the trial and error of dart styles and fly types. I just got into dart, I'm a avid billiards pkayer and bowler. I went through about 6k to finding the perfect set up in billiards. In bowling about 600 hundred. Love playering all 3 games. Just the trail and error in the beginning gets pricey and tiresome.

Cracking video Connor. I had my experience November last year. Absolutely loved every second of it, Andy has so much knowledge and he makes you feel like a professional, such a nice bloke. I'm getting more consistent in my throw now and throwing less 26's and when I am missing it's not by much. Keep up the good work 👍🏼🎯
How did you go about sorting that out? I don't live far and would love a fitting and a bit of advice. Getting the right darts would allow me to concentrate on other things I suppose.

Very interesting and helpful. No doubt a certain style and grip you will always feel comfortable with. I would say you will not settle down to a particular dart for 2 or 3 years of heavy competitive throwing!

How do you find out if you are a wrist or arm thrower?
I used to flick my wrist, I've gone to an arm throw, i don't in gauge my wrist with tipping back and flick forward motion.
if I'm not concentrating , my wrist will creep in and move( tiny flick) side to side in the follow through, they tend to be way off.
What a fantastic, educational video. Thumbs up. Personally, i can't agree with the points opinion. Almost all sets of darts i buy have around 26mm points, which is just too short for me, and have no problem changing them and getting them the same length (i'm not good enough to worry about a half mil discrepancy!), but otherwise,fantastic.

What darts would be the best for back grip arm thrower with hard strong throw? Where barrel should be weighted and what lenght of dart?
Mission Chiron M2? Almost bought a set of these once. Honestly should have. I have the same issue as you. The longer barrel when it comes back hits my glasses. I'm playing with barrels between 45-50mm and using an inbetween shaft with No6 shape flights.
Have the exact same issue with longer darts with my glasses. I’ve thrown my best stuff in the past with Taylor Gen 7s so this shape of dart being most suited to me is no surprise really
@@connorcain3852 I have a set of McKicks premium blacks. They are probably the closest thing I have to the Chiron. I put the mission sniper grip points on them. Andy made a good point in the video about not changing points because of the barrel being weakened and just use the points they come in.
This level of dart customer service does not exist in Canada. No store would ever let me throw so many darts

Trudarts in Heeze doet dit ook. Wel kwalitatief in mindere maten maar het komt in grote lijnen op hetzelfde neer. Kijken hoe de pijl in het bord staat en je gaat wel door 10 setjes heen op een goede avond.

Good video wish I had a local expert near me I know my preferred weight is 26g torpedo but sometimes it feels like I'm throwing nothink and need to go up to 30g so I can feel the dart in my hand I throw from the wrist
I use a medium size stem I'm interested in flights as I think this is the part of my dart I've not given much attention too Can you advise me on what type shape ect will be ok
and there are darts enthusiasts in other countries who does not have access to these kind of pro services.. its sad..
I throw a 26g phil taylor phase 5 unicorn dart with side loaders , would love to work with this guy truly.

All well and good hetting a dart you can throw simple thing is if youre coordination is off no matter what dart you throw, its off. The dart is just a part of the technique. Your stance, aim, throw, attitude etc are all things ANY dart cant fix. I throw a phil taylor 8s....can hit the 69s no bother at times, then mix it with attitude, mood, surroundings people, beer, time of day, etc et and they go all over the shop.

WHERE CAN I GET FITTED!? I am in Va, USA and doesn't look like there is anywhere within a few hours of me :,( just bought a set of Red dragon freestyle 22g Red and hit my first 180 with them but am overall MUCH less consistent with them compared to a cheap set of unicorn darts my wife got me with the dart board a while back. I am a rear gripper with middle finger on the barrel and ring finger on the point. Any suggestions of at least a direction to go in? Don't have the money to keep trying a bunch.
I think if you don’t have the ability to get fitted I’ve found success with mitigating inconsistency in my throw by taking slow motion videos of my throw. Analyze the arc of the dart and then analyzing my grip and switching up shaft lengths. Don’t be afraid to try all the different shaft lengths and remember it doesn’t matter what other people use as long as it works for you. I been playing for almost 20 years and I still do this. I play both soft tip and steel tip(using different darts) and that’s taught me a lot that there’s no such thing as the absolutely perfect darts for a person. You can adjust to different darts, as long as they aren’t completely wrong for your throw style!

I haven’t thrown darts in many years, but I have begun to throw again. I recently came cross a set of darts with a needle shaft and flights w/ a tiny tube that the needles go into. Do you know what they are called? It seems they are no longer made. Any thoughts or comments about them? What are they called? Thanks for an interesting decision-making process in this video.
