Thanks Travis! I’m moving back to the old family land next month if all goes well. I live in a duplex right now and don’t have anywhere to grow except about a 2 foot strip down the parking lot. I drove 2 cattle panels lengthwise and grew tomatoes in 3 gallon pots. Mostly grape tomatoes and went nuts on the trellises. So basically a 32 foot row. My neighbors however own both units in her building and has a sizable growing space. I bought them your irrigation system and injector and also some ground cover because I watched her struggle with weeds terribly the year before. Come spring and summer time the garden was loaded and beautiful. I bought her the big package of pollinators from your company and a handful of different sunflowers. I sure did enjoy watching the garden grow. Thanks for all that you and your dad have taught me. She’s yet to thank me but it’s ok because I sowed seeds of love. Some people just don’t get it. I’m moving 50 miles from the coast and need to get my tarp ordered the first of January so I can smother out some beautiful grass that’s grown over where the old tenant used to garden. I bought a camper a few months ago. Y’all wish me well and remember that you too can grow something. Even if it’s just kindness or love. Blessings

Hey Travis, nice that i found you guys again in YT. i used to follow all yours videos when in HOSS. I write from Portugal, and i had to comment since one of the best varieties you named, is a very old and common to see variety of "Couve"(Kale) here in my country.
Every grandmother and grandfather that deal with land, always plant that. Its amazing to see it, as you said on the other side of the pond... and as a gardener myself i can attest that kind of Portuguese kale always produces big. All the best for you and family.

Your making me hungry with those Water Mellon's, I need to invent a seal-able, portable carry salt grinder for when you have a Mellon or 'Mater attack. "Bless Their Ever Love'n Pea Pick'n Hearts", can't tell you how many times I heard that phrase from my Granny and other relatives......Everybody Keep those western Ky. folks in mind this holiday season that's now having to deal with winter (although it has been record setting mild so far), I hope they've all found proper shelter. There's several charities set up to help, easy to find on line.
Prayers for all those folks in Kentucky! You shouldn't ruin a good watermelon with salt though! lol

Marigolds r kinda like tomatoes and will grow roots anywhere the stem touches soil so ur hilling them up really helped give more support
Yes they are! I noticed that when they were in the seed trays and so that led me to believe that they'd love a good hilling!

Couple of my favorites that might be different .... Ali Baba Watermelon. And yes, these come from Iraq...but are available a few places here in the U.S. These watermelon are NOT seedless, but the sweetest watermelon I've ever grown.... Expect the melons to be in the 30+ lbs range. Each vine producing 6 or more melons. I plant seeds direct and use black landscape fabric as a mulch. Landscape fabric you can either water with drip or soaker hose under fabric or water sprinkler above (water will go through fabric) I've had great results using this method.
My favorite cucumber for pickling is National Pickling ...perfect size for slicing or using for spears and canning pickles. Very prolific. Probably will be the only cucumber I'll be using in the future.
You're going to convince me to try that Ali Baba sooner or later ... lol
You might want to let some of those Flash collards bolt and go to seed, and see if they stay true to variety, and if so you could save that type for future growing seasons! Doesn't hurt to try!

Another great video though I can't grow most of the varieties you reviewed except for the leafy greens. I'm going to keep on pestering you to try your hand at crossing and backcrossing your four favorite okree varieties until you can produce a stable Lazy Dog cultivar to show the world what great okree is all about.
Stay tuned for the next video. We might have found a more cold-tolerant okree ...
Here's some interesting trivia. Americans are the only people who differentiate between winter squash and pumpkins. Every one else just calls them all pumpkins. "Squash" is said for the summer varieties. I'm interested on how those polar bears tasted.
That is interesting. I think I actually like that better. So many new gardeners get really confused by the term "winter squash."
I know you weren't highly impressed with the Mountain Vineyard cherry tomato, but that was my best producer and best tasting. One thing I did that is polar opposite to what you're taught to do, was to prune the limbs that WEREN'T the suckers. I left the suckers and trimmed the others. Whoa! Massive production! I probably got 10 gallons or more of tomatoes. It produced so much that I just left tons of them on the plant. And that was on two plants.
Another massive producer for me were the tomatillos. I had two plants and the production was three times that of the cherry tomato. Tomatillos everywhere!
The final major producer for me was the heatless habaneros. I had five plants and I couldn't even tell you how much they produced. The last pick I did the day I pulled them out of the ground, I got two gallons. And that was only a third of what was on the plants. They were sweeter than a bell pepper too. Great plant. I'll only grow two plants next year. Lol
We had really good production from the heatless habaneros and tomatillos as well -- almost so much that we couldn't keep them picked. As far as the Mountain Vineyard goes, I like the flavor of it. But it was a little slow to get going for me and the thickness of the skin was a bit of a turn-off.
So which cherry tomato is your favorite?

Hey Travis hope y'all had a great Christmas, have you grown the homestead tomato yet? What is your thoughts on it. I'm going to give the roadster a shot this year and was considering the homestead tomato as well. You taught me so much and I just wanted your opinion. Have a great night fella. God Bless
I have grown Homestead once. It has pretty good production, but the plants definitely get a good bit taller than something like a Roadster or Red Snapper. So some type of cage is probably a better option for trellising them.

I would like to know more about them field peas, like how they taste, and how you use them, never seen any one grow them around here.
Hard to describe the exact flavor because there are so many types of "field peas" with different flavor profiles. But if I had to provide a flavor generalization, it's somewhere between a lima bean and a boiled peanut. You should give them a try!
Really enjoyed this series. How you feel about the yellow wax beans as a good crop? I like them fresh sautéed with butter, honey, salt and a little smoked paprika. Plus they seem to be very prolific for a short time. Ours seemed to put off more than our field peas. (I'm with you on the Okree. The jing orange didn't seem to put off a lot either.) I grew yellow wax beans a few years ago. They did well and tasted great. I'm just more a fan of climbers nowadays as opposed to bush beans.

Would love to try the ruiz okra when you get to it! Our high productions out here in the desert were the black cherry tomato, green grape tomato, and jelly bean. The green grape won on flavor! I learned to let it turn bright yellow, and wow! Our fails were pink oxhart, jubilee, full sized tomatoes just don't grow here, didn't get a single one of these. Our ok one was the green stripped zebra. Taste was good and it's the biggest version we harvested. Okra winner was gurneys gumbo!
I'm pretty sure Gurney's Gumbo is the same as the Jambalaya variety that we grew for many years. It's definitely a productive one!
@@LazyDogFarm you very well may be right, they are very similar, I am only a few years into growing, I've always had something growing, but not this large. So I am still learning varieties, but I did notice how similar they are, I did plant jambalaya but they did nothing this year, the weather was so crazy! I'm still harvesting buckets of tomatoes, and it's almost January, lol, I've still got bell peppers growing! The okra I grew this year was gurneys gumbo, jambalaya, Okinawa Pink Okra, Louisiana green velvet, OKRA FRENCH QUARTER PINK HYBRID, OKRA HILL COUNTRY RED , Bowling Red Okra, Burmese, Jing orange, I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

Travis you probably know this. Could you help with this question. I was going to attempt to grow alot of watermelons 🍉 this spring and wanted to grow mix of seedless and seed types in the same patch. Can I use the seed type like Crimson Sweet or Sugar Baby for the pollinators to the Seedless types like Treasure Chest, etc... Just trying to maximize my 40'x50' garden area.
You'll probably want to use the same color watermelon for the pollenizer and the seedless variety. Treasure Chest is a yellow variety, so you'd want to pick a yellow seeded variety as the pollenizer. For every 3 seedless transplants along the row, plant one pollenizer transplant.

That savanna mustard I’ve still got it growing lol good tasting I figured it would have froze out by now but it’s not live in zone 6 that’s my new favorite mustard proably get me another big mess tommrow I told my son to get I looked it’s still there I’m getting tommrow lol he can knaw on a carrot lol while I’m eating mustard and a few turnip greens got to pull me some turnips also I had good okra last year I planted in a place I had never grew okra before and it must not liked that I’ll do better this year though
Okree doesn't like really fertile soil. Maybe that was it?

I bought most of your seeds recommended in part 1. If you could please tell us where to buy them it might be helpful. I sourced most of them from a company in Ga called HOSS. I didn't buy a couple of them from other companies because they wanted so much for shipping.

What is the flavor of the orange crunch watermelon? Does it taste like a red watermelon?
It's similar, but a little different -- a little sweeter I believe.

What's the name of the red okra? I've grown it, but can't remember the name. It was some of the best okra I've ever eaten and the pods get pretty large before getting hard. I don't have space for okra now but if I did I think it would be my go to.

The short fat red okree we grew was called Alabama Red. We also grew a red variety called Jing Orange that was pretty good. I'd recommend that one.
How's the chickens doing? Is still too cold for egg production? Did they get Wifi yet?
It's definitely not too cold for it -- high 70s this week. But no eggs yet. Having issues with the wi-fi out there. Probably going to have to upgrade their router. They trashed the first one.

I tried mustard this past year and why did no one talk about ants? They attracted soooo many ants and I didn't know that was a thing until they were crawling up my legs! Not a normal thing up north here...

There are also other varieties at other seed companies with similar names like Orange Crush. I would imagine that it's probably the same thing.
