    My dad's company used to rent a big warehouse on 4th Ave. in Brooklyn. The entire block is owned by someone, if not more blocks. On the day of signing the contract, the guy says, "Don't worry about security here. Ain't nobody stupid enough to steal in this neighborhood. However, if you do run into any problems, don't bother calling the cops, give us a call directly and we'll handle everything."

    9:37 - If you want to understand what he's talking about regarding "tipping someone", there is this wonderful scene in Back To School where Rodney Dangerfield's character is in the Econ class telling the professor what real life is like:
    "First of all you're going to have to grease the local politicians for the sudden zoning problems that always come up. Then there's the kickbacks to the carpenters, and if you plan on using any cement in this building I'm sure the teamsters would like to have a little chat with ya, and that'll cost ya. Oh and don't forget a little something for the building inspectors. Then there's long term costs such as waste disposal. I don't know if you're familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the boyscouts."

    • @maxdrelinger
      @maxdrelinger ปีที่แล้ว +18

    • @laurat1129
      @laurat1129 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reminds me also of when AJ's science teacher's Saturn was stolen, and Carmela asks Tony to find it (because, of course). It had already been chopped, though, so the guys get another one repainted and leave it in the school parking lot. What could anyone say, but that was still nice of Tony to do...
      Then there was the time Patsy and Burt, walking around a gentrified part of Newark (I think it was), try to shakedown a "Starbucks" by offering "protection", but the poor guy working there tells them they gotta go through corporate. As they're leaving with nothing, Patsy says, "It's over for the little guy."

    Living in Chicago I totally understand what happened. That world is apart of chicago city business. Goes back to 1900s. I don't think people realize ALL of those skyscrapers in NY and Chicago would not get built if the "Unions" didn't give the ok. Glad it worked out. Your to great of a guy to swim with the 🐟 fishes. 😎 Though even just dropping bikes of at a union gig, I would have called them first. 😯😁

      When Comcast was building their headquarters in Philly, they planned to install waterless urinals. The plumbers' union threw a fit and shut down construction until Comcast agreed to pay them to run water pipes to the urinals "just in case they wanted to convert to flush urinals in the future". Unions are the legal arm of the mafias. If the boss doesn't get his kickback, he'll shut everything down or worse. Unions are outdated and corrupt.

    Back in the 60's or early 70's my grandpa's brother bought a bar right outside New Orleans and he's getting ready to open and a guy comes in and offers him a deal on all his alcohol, so he signed a contract and put the order in for what he needed.................well a couple days later a couple guys come in and they say, "Hey, we're with such an such (competing alcohol distributor) and we're here to sell you your alcohol." Well my grandpa's brother says, "Look, such and such come in yesterday and I signed a contract with him and he's going to be supplying all my alcohol, but I appreciate you stopping by." And the guys were like, "No, you don't understand, you are going to be buying all your alcohol from such and such."
    It was at this point my Grandpa's Brother realized what was what and he wanted no part of it, so he ended up selling the bar before he even opened.

    Doing a little kickback her a favor for somebody in the world of crime can have its benefits at times
    For instance, let’s see your own or run a restaurant and there’s people out front to keep on hassling your customers that won’t leave them alone because they want to bomb from them they wanna rob them they want to do everything, but what they should be doing
    How your customers feel afraid
    But every time you call the police, they run away before the cops get there
    Well, that’s when you pick the phone up and you call in a favor from that certain individual that you did a favor for the urge you something that has no problem taking care of these kinds of problems
    Next thing you know those bombs and drug addicts won’t leave your customers alone for whatever reason they stop coming around. You don’t ask any questions you just know the problem is fixed that’s all you worry about.
