I once worked SO hard on a card and layered it upside down. I wrote a note to the recipient that said "this card is NOT upside down...you are standing on your head!" 😂😂😂🎉🎨

When I need to fix the layer because I put it on upside down I run a piece of fishing line and slide it between the layers
OK Simon you have just reached hero status. WOW! MIGHT now be able to quit throwing out cracking cardstock. Heat glue to get rid of ALL stickers on packages as well on card adhesives. WOW! Ink blending hints oh yah! Bring on more buddy!! Every tip you have on every card making technique is GOLD to us all!! Thank you so much!!

What I appreciate is that it helps me with the beginners in my class I am teaching in the Senior Center here is Texas. I volunteer 1 day a week, and they have no extra money to just throw their mistakes away. So please make suggestions that help people regroup when they've made big mistakes!
Wow! I have been a card maker for 20 years. The only tip that I already knew was to heat the adhesive to remove the card base. I have a thin acrylic block that I never use and now my sentiments will be crisp! Your demonstration of how to ink up the blending tool was so great! I never understood why my backgrounds were too light! Thanks so much. So glad I watched this video, Simon!
I love the tip about heating up the tape to take it off to change the position of the images. I’m sure that it happens to almost all of us. I only go to option was to cut the image off the card base and place it on a new card base, just as you showed.
Thank you for pointing out the difference between thinner acrylic blocks vs thick acrylic blocks. I was not aware of the difference besides hand comfort.
I find the thin blocks problematic to lifting up off the surface cleanly. Appreciate your tips!

All those tips were incredibly helpful, thank you! I just ordered a scoring pad and I am very happy I now know how to use it and how to flip and fold for a clean bend. The heating of the adhesive for removal was also very helpful, thank you so much for sharing!

When using heat to loosen the adhesive, I read that sliding a credit card between the layers helps to separate them after heating.
I’ve had some success with dental floss for separation. Great tips, thanks!

If you have adhered the card front using some type of tape (instead of liquid glue) Un-Du is a liquid that you squirt along the tape line and the front panel lifts right off, leaving the tape reusable. So you can just adhere the front panel the correct way. (looks like Goo-Gone; but is totally different._
I can't craft without a bottle of Un-Du right next to me. That stuff is magic!

Hi! I have some goo gone and I love it for getting those stickers off everything you buy. I wasn’t thinking of it for my card making. I make the occasional mistake just like everyone else, how is undo different from Goo gone? They sound as if they would be pretty similar….
@@kayediaz79109 Normally I pick it up at scrapbooking or stamping conventions; but I have seen it at Michaels. I tend to buy several bottles at once.

I use rock o block and stamp platform. As I find acrylic block to heavy handed for me xx
Would definitely want to watch ink blending tutorial. It's looks super smooth when you do it
When I have adhered a card topper to the base upside down, I grab one of the corners and pry it up just enough to be able to slide some "dental floss" under it and work it up the topper until it comes completely free from the base!! I always keep a roll of dental floss on my desk!! It really does work!!

Hi Simon! (I speak French, sorry if I made mistake...) I knew the tip to score the card base before to fold, but I didn’t realise really it’s have a side to fold. Thanks for the tips!
Omg I can’t tell you how many times I put my card front on upside down. Great tip with heating up the card. Hopefully, I won’t have to do that for a while!
The scoring tip is especially important with coated card stock.

Thank you...I love the scoring info. It is so much better than trying to figure out the weft and web of card stock. I also have never used the heat tool on adhesive....BUT my son bought his first car a couple of months ago complete with a big dealer logo sticker on the back window. I popped out my heat tool and an extension cord and off it came...just a quick clean up with some acetone and voila! I know you thought you were done with hacks, but your next empire should be transforming craft to life hacks :P One more tip I learned from you is along the same lines of the acrylic block, but it is the "don't mash the MISTI". I was so used to pressure (starting with woodies to acrylics to polymers) when I got the MISTI I was really applying too much pressure and distorting the image...it was kind of a side note in one of your videos, but now it is part of the household craft nomenclature.

Blending with the ranger tool is my biggest issue. I am working on it but now I will try your technique. If you do a special video on ink blending I will watch it many times! Oh, I have made all other mistakes too.
Me too Michelle! I can do quite well with brushes, but can't get the bold color with them. I use small finger daubers, but they really seem to put a lot of color on. I keep practicing with the Ranger Tool but results are sketchy. I would love it if Simon did a full video.
Yes please...would love to see an ink blending video! And I'm not saying how many times I've goofed on adhering things to my cardbase!

Thank you for all these great tips, Simon! One thing I haven’t mastered is scoring. I can’t for the life of me follow the grove in the scoreboard. Everyone makes it look so easy, but I, for some reason, struggle with it. So, I end up using the scoring blade on my paper trimmer! Any tips on scoring would be helpful, or maybe I’m just a lost cause!!

Fun video! When scoring a card, if we forget which side to have on the inside, it’s the side with the little bump across the fold, called a mountain fold. Also, Un-Du is wonderful for undoing cards stuck on backwards, paper elements, etc. When it’s applied it looks like it will leave a stain, but it disappears. And it’s not Goo Gone. Different beast. : )

TFS. On the cardstock folding after scoring, I have heard about scoring it the "correct" way as you showed. I guess in my experience, I haven't noticed that it made much difference. If folding it the "wrong" way, the bulk stays out of the folded area so that seems preferable. Doing it the "correct" way puts the bulk right in the fold. Thoughts?
Nancy, I thought the same thing many years ago, but 45+ years of stamping has proven to me that the ridge on the inside of the card makes for a much smoother outside, which is what the recipient sees first. I would rather have the outside of the card look best!
You make ink blending look so effortless. I get the circle impression when I put the blender to paper, whether I use the finder daubers or the Ranger blending tool. I am sure you noticed the unevenness on the card I sent in February.
Have you ever stamped on the thin craft foam? If you use brown it looks like leather.

Good tips. I think I would have opted for having an extra layer if I had accidentally adhered my card to the card base incorrectly. If necessary, I would have adhered a flat card inside where the sentiment goes (even if I were leaving it blank) to balance the weight added to the cover. I noticed your method of folding post-scoring before and wondered if I was interpreting it incorrectly (I'm not great w/ mirror image stuff.... can't put on earrings using a mirror, for example). Glad you got that figured out now. :) Hope your move is going / has gone well. Still love your closing music. Could you tell us whose song that is?

Great ways to fix errors we make sooner or later. Would really like to see a video on ink blending. I tend to be too light to the touch or too heavy. Also when softening the edges of the card stock with ink I am way too heavy handed. I could use some advice. Thanks

It had always made sense to me that the indent of the score would be the indent of the fold. I found out how to do this the right way just within the last 2 years. It sure makes it easier on the WRMK Envelope Punch Board, as I can see where my folds are going!
I would be surprised if anyone here has NOT put the card on upside down at one (or many) time!
Truth! I understand the sentiments on how people feel when it happens - I usually just walk away in disgust. Later I know it's easy to fix LOL

I forget who but they said when scoring and folding, to fold to where the ridge is on the inside❤Helped me so much lol!
I learned this as “mountains to the middle” and now I never forget which way to fold my scored lines!

I have turned the card upside down lots of time and did it the first way then one day I heat embossed my card after glewing it to main card and my card lifted. This shod have told me how to correct an upside down card but it didn't. Thanks.

I use Undo to remove something upside down or in the wrong place.
I use my Cricut spatula.

One thing that happened to me some times as well is I either smuged my card with ink or even acrylic paint (when I am working at several projects at the same time...). I try to cover it up.
As for acrylic blocks: I only have 2, different sizes. I definately need more smaller ones.
Look around your house. I once saw someone using an old pill bottle bottom and it works great. I since found other things and save my money for more fun things like stamps

Great ideas! Since I don’t have a wooden tool for each color, I only have 2 for now, is there a trick to pulling off the foam pieces? I may use them twice and the “black piece” detaches from the foam. I never feel like I can get my foam piece “seasoned” up with ink, if that makes sense.
I used to have that happen too. I put my finger under a little bit to be sure I grab hold of both the foam and the black felt piece before I pull it off. So far, no tear offs and I don't get inky fingers because Simon's inks dry pretty quickly. Cannot say the same for Distress Oxide Inks - I get ink all over my fingers every time!

There is a product called Undu that removes tape runner,labels etc. It's wonderful!!
Once upon a time I assembled all of my items on what I thought was a card front. It turned out to be on the matching envelope front.
Another way to remove a glued on card from the base is to use dental floss, You just slip a long piece under the corner and guide it to the opposite corner. The glued on piece comes right off, no paper is ripped and it doesn't make your card thicker,

It honestly bugs me so much when crafters score and fold the wrong way. It makes it very tricky when following tutorials as you have to understand everything backwards.
The finish isn't as nice, the paper cracks and it doesn't line up correctly. Not sure why so many crafters do it the wrong way?
