Same here, over the past 25 years I've spent untold amounts of time in Turkey. Never really had a problem and since I travel with my family, we've always felt safer there than we do here in Philadelphia. Low crime, safe environment and fantastic food. Great place to be IMO. But like all places it has its negatives as well. One it isn't the cleanest place you'll find. People throw garbage around with zero regard. The second issue is simply how corrupt and greedy local Turks are. If they're robbing their own family members, what do you think they'll do to you? lol
We travelled to many countries on six continents. For us, Türkiye is a wonderful country to visit. Rich history, tasty food and great hospitality. Next to us is June holiday. 🕺💃🏿👍💕
As a Turkish person, I really loved how unbiased and how informative this video was. Thank you so much for this presentation of my country! Normally when I watch other videos, I see that they contain a lot of misinformation and also a biased view. I can tell that you did a very good research. Again, thank you so much :) Keep the good work up
Since I love cats and Turkey is a very cat friendly country I just wanted to mention two cat channels based in Turkey that I visit often. 1: Walter Santi, elaborate stories of his many cats. 2: Tugay Inonoglu, Istanbul vet treating cats and dogs in a compassionate manner.
Guys, I just discovered your channel today, subscribed immediately. The way you tell the story, with such objectivity, away from all the assumptions and stereotypes is amazing. As a Turkish myself, I was proud and got emotional watching your videos about Turkiye. Also, as a father, I want to congratulate your new baby! Congrats! If you ever come to Poland, Gdansk, give a shout out, happy to host you! Cheers!
Most Americans and British people think that Turkey is an Arab country. But in this video you described our country so well that it was a great video. There are many more places to visit. Thank you for introducing my country in a sincere way. 🙏

Was stationed at a USAF remote site for 2 years in Turkey. I enjoyed every minute of it! Got a Turkish drivers license and drove to many areas not visited by tourists. Visited several original churches of Christ (I believe there are 7). Spent a lot of time on the Aegean coast (every weekend during spring and summer/early Fall). Couldn’t beat the price(1991-93) $20 U.S. a day for room and 3 meals right on the beach! Hoping to make it back there someday….Cheers

Turkiye is officially a secular country with no official religion since the constitutional amendment in 1928. This was later strengthened and entrenched with the wider appliance of laicism by founder Atatürk during the mid-1930s, as part of the Republican reforms.
As a Turk, I watched your video with admiration and I want to say thank you guys for making this video. I will wait for your other videos. Enjoy in Turkiye .
for now, it was forcefully secularised in 1928 even tho everyone was against it, now that people have been brainwashed by this corrupt school system, everyone forgot their roots, but even if you and the rest forget, I will never forget who I am

Sailing to Turkey is a very smart choice. Crystal clear water, and havently valleys, amazing nature... plus Greece and its thousands of islands are next door :) have fun. it's getting warmer too, you'll have hella fun.
I appreciate your diligence and understand what you say, but we should display tolerance and understanding. “Greece” is officially “Hellas”, but we shouldn’t be taking those things too personally. Hope you enjoy the video, and not let technicalities ruin our community 😊
They can't understand even a very simple thing. I speak 3 languages; Turkish and Greek as my native languages, and English as my first foreign language. I say "Turkey" when speaking English, "Τουρκία" when speaking Greek, and "Türkiye" when speaking Turkish. Likewise, I say "Ελλάδα" when speaking Greek, "Greece" when speaking English, and "Yunanistan" when speaking Turkish - which I say knowing that the names given by other nations are often inaccurate, like Yunanistan; which basically means the land of the Ionians. We're not all Ionians. Plus, almost all of them call Xanthi İskeçe, Komotini Gümülcine, Alexandroupoli Dedeağaç, Thessaloniki Selanik etc. How can you act so sensitive while being so insensitive, right? @@vasbites

I'm an Irish (lapsed) Catholic. I spent three months cycling across Turkey on my way to India back in 2008. I loved the Call To Prayer, the food, the people and the scenery. I was invited into so many peoples homes and given free bed and board. The next country I cycled through was Iran, which was even more amazing. I was treated like a rock and roll star in Pakistan.
The Iraqi people are living in a terrorist state. It will be great to see them freed from the fanatics that currently run that country. The naivete of young travelers never fails to amaze me. Yes, you can have good experiences. I did. But you need to be super careful.
Welcome to Turkey. I have been following you two from the beginning and it's great to see you made it all the way here. You are going to love. Try to find those small places that are still original when you start exploring the coastline.
Another great vid. Turkey is an amazing place. seen thru the eyes of a young sailor 30 years ago it was a bit diff. Thanks for showing some of the other sides of it.
Dear Sailing Project Atticus II family, So great to see that you are now totally settled down in Turkey, one of my fave places in the world, from what I have seen so far. All the coast you are going to visit is amazing. I mean, Greece is great, but somehow the Turkish coast seems even more spectacular. Plus all the food and amazing monuments, like the one you show here, even though there is only a few stones left. Sending you good vibes to accomplish all the boat projects and totally enjoy your stay in Turkey! Hugs, La tía Ivy desde Panamá :)
Fun fact. Knights Hospitallers used the dismantled parts of the mausoleum in the foundations of their castle which is Bodrum Castle today. So mausoleum is somewhat still there.

We've documented a 10 degree Celcius drop in temperature inside our boat cabin just by hanging deck awnings. The awnings are big so we spent some time figuring out how to design a quick tie and release system which we recommend doing. As far as we're concerned they are a must in hot climates. Looking forward to seeing yours.
Love, love, love Turkey. First time I went, I planned to stay 2 weeks and ended up leaving because my 3 month visa was running out! So many things I wanna share (additionally to my top 5 things to do in Turkey posted in a previous video ^^), but I'm sure you'll find your own adventures.
@@Hakankirbas I can tell by your multiple comments that you are a thoroughly unpleasant individual. Happily I never met you either time I went to your wonderful country, which I intend to return to often, as every other person there knew the meaning of hospitality. I guess you missed that lesson.
Sun awnings are a really good idea. When we sailed in Turkey the awnings really made our boat a lot more comfortable. We had two, one aft of the mast and the other ahead of it. Those awnings, combined with a wind scoop on the fore hatch and several electric fans greatly improved our lives.
Great Video! You guys do such a great job!. I really enjoyed your rewind series. I always look forward to Saturday to watch the Atticus II family. I'm so happy to see you proping your patron family. Much love and take care!
Thanks for sharing your experiences in the Med with us. Culinary aspects of our different cultures and sharing those experiences can only help bring people together in appreciation of each other. Cheers
When you dive into the culture and bring us along is by far some of your best episodes. As much as I like the boat work, I really enjoy these when I learn something about a culture that I had no idea about. It also helps dispel stereotypes and shows the positive aspects of their culture. Amazing… The handmade carpets were beautiful too! Glad you were able to get one for Atticus. I’m sure she appreciated it as well. Lol
Wow great welcome to Turkey video. The story lines were awesome! The food was so yummy that I wish I could have tasted it through the internet. Wishing you a wonderful, yet fruitful stay to accomplish your boat projects. Blessings!

Thank you for bringing us along and for teaching us along the way. Although you make it feel like we are learning right with you! Take care and can't wait for the next video! Stay Safe!
Be careful when sailing on the southside of Kos, winds can pick up in the afternoon till 48 knots, sail early in the morning, after Knidos, wind is mostly calmed down. Also in the neighborhood of Datca wind can pick up. But you definitely must visit Datca. There are fresh water springs so you can get fresh water there. Market on saterday is also nice. When you visit Bodrum with your boat, you can get a mooring or anker before the castle, don’t need to go to the marina.
You made me miss home country sooo much! Especially also being a father of a one year old girl, far away, in your own country! Sending our love from California. If you need any reccos, happy to help. Wishing you all safe travels and loads of joy with your LO there. Beautiful video.
Not a Muslim country, just highly Muslim-populated. It's a secular country, have respect for all beliefs. There are many citizens with different beliefs, and also non-believers. The header of the video is offensive, you should have done it better. (I didn't watch the video, I came here to comment because the name of the video is a false claim.)
Thanks for talking the population exchange issue kindly and objectively. My husband's whole family is originally from Greece/Macedonia&Bulgaria. Only one grandmother came with population exchange; the others came (ran away/chased away) during/after the Balkan wars. So many sad memories.
Welcome to Turkiye! Great video, your narrative about Turkish culture and Turkish Republic is all correct. I hope you enjoy more and more with your voyage in Turkey. Gocek area is considered as best sailing destination of Turkey, and I suggest you to visit Knidos in Datca.
Another low energy method of cooling a boat is to use ocean water pumped through a heat exchanger with a fan blowing cabin air through the heat exchanger. A tube lowered overboard to 10-20 feet deep picks up pretty cool water in most locals.
This was an unbelievable(and probably the first) video that I've ever watched from a non-Turkish person. Thanks for that mate👏 It was so cool and probably so clear, especially for those who are prejudiced against Turkiye. Enjoy your stay and have fun with your lovely family. Don't forget to visit Izmir, you guys gonna love it :)

I've sailed all over SE Asia and the muslims are the nicest people evrytime.
Fact ! Same here !!!
If they're robbing their own family members, what do you think they'll do to you? lol
Really loved Turkey.

improved our lives.
