- Edson Ludwig of Porto do Sul in Overland Park gives pro tips in how to make a Brazilian caipirinha. Some bartenders are taking liberty with the country's national cocktail, which is fine, unless you mess with the muddle. Story by Jill Silva. Video by Tammy Ljungblad/The Star.
1:52 "that's what you going to get" :perfectly un-muddled lime slice #tenet
And he cut out all the zest, best part of the fruit.
@@pauloamw the zest makes the drink bitter
@@mrfreitas994 not the zest, the pith. The zest makes it sweet and fragrant.
@@pauloamw indeed. This whole "peel the lime" nonsense is way over the top. Have been making/drinking caipirinhas since times immemorial and never seen anyone ever peel the fruit. Even the pith is a fairly recent "Nutella" trend
@@afucs nutella?
Thank you sir. Love this drink. Has never tasted the same at home compared to a churrascaria. How you prepped the lime makes all the difference in the world. Cheers brother.
Thank you so much for your authentic approach to creating a wonderful caipirinha!
Just tried this and it’s the best! Thank you
Brilliant! I’m going to try it out now, cheers.
very well made caipirinha, im brazillian and i can aprove that is the best way to get the best tasting caipirinha! good job!
Verdade
Son limas o limones
Obrigado!
Enjoying one right now. Perfection.
So well done!
Absolutely perfect 🇧🇷
Caipirinha de velho barreiro muito bom!!!
At last, someone who knows what they're doing. Excellent video sir!
saude, looks incredible, can not wait to attempt
Excellent video, thank you
That is a very accurate way of making a caipirinha. At least the way I was thought from different bartenders in Brazil
Lime peel is an important ingredient for caipirinha flavor!!!
The Caipirinha is such a great Drink a Cachaca is a magic spirit
Não bebo, mas acho lindo 🍋
Well done amigo.
La mejor que he visto😉
Saude! Muito bom e facil
Thank you so much for your recipe I absolutely love this drink, not for sure how much sugar I should use ? Thank you my dear for taking time to put this video up !
10 g, 1 lime, 50 ml cachaça
Def going to try and make this myself. The Brazilian steakhouse I go to this drink is def pricey
yea i spent damn near 120$ between me and a lady friend just on the drink
Ingredients List:
2oz Cachaça
1 Lime, pith and core removed
1 TBSP white sugar
Ice
That looked like a lot more than 1 tbsp - is that right? I have no reason not to believe you, just visually looked like more in the video, even given the perspective
@@mattparsons946 If equal parts lime and sugar, then it should be like 2 tbsp. 1 lime yields about 1 oz (30ml) so it should be 2 tbsp sugar
Perfect 👍
I’m having one right now that I just made . I add a little bit of jalapeño syrup . It’s delicious
Também pode fazer como limonada Suiça , com o mesmo método !
That's the way to do it RIGHT!
Finally someone making caipirinha with velho barreiro
Isso parece delicioso!
ok, you got me amigo. muchas gracias desde Alemania
pinga com limão
perfeita receita irmão.
Hey Edson, come on, man.. that was one of our best well-kept secrets... don´t do that, man!
Delicious.
Looks amazing mate. What sugar did you use and how much please?
Use very fine white sugar. The amount depends on how you sweet you want it, go for 1 to 2 spoons
PARABÉNS façam mais coqueteis com cachaça por favor
Caipirinha + churrasco + palheiro = brazileiro rústico do interior.
Assim se vive!
That delicious
I'm a bit confused how much sugar are you supposed to use?
Goood!!!!!!
Yes mate
Great video. Not 10 minutes of waffle that no one wants to hear. Perfect!!!
Finally a original recipe
Cheers well done!
Saúde!
Woderful video, what type of sugar are you using please ?
he shook for 6 seconds LOL
I have watched a Video where they Put the cachaca secound with the Lime. So the alcohol can extract the taste.
I'm looking for the recipe for this
how much sugar should i be actually using... I see 1.5 teaspoons and other measurements
it would really help me out to know exactly how much
How much sugar would you say that is?
should be something like two bar spoons, that looked like a little more than that though!
In fact, the white part does not make the caipirinha bitter, this is a myth. The white part is removed precisely to macerate the lemon well
I’ve tried all kinds of cachaca, looking for the best to make the perfect caipirinha....I keep going back to 51.
It’s the least expensive, but I find makes the best caipirinha.
at least from where i'm from, we usually prefer "velho barreiro", which is the one he is using in the video, around the same price tag as 51, if you can find where you live.
Two questions: I have heard they should be mixed, not shaken, to be "correct" in Brazil. But then again, my firned bought them from vendors on Brazilian beach areas and they were all shaken? Also, why did he leave the white on the outside of skin and remove most of skin. But then again, my firned said the ones made on the beaches had some skin removed to, Is it not less flavorful if you remove most skin?? I find the quality of tastes highly varies with the brand of Cachaca. Some taste like solvent.
I'm Brasilian, this is wrong, should be muddled and shaken. Leave some skin on
Yeah, I thought removing the skin seemed weird. It's exposing more pith, and also you're losing out on the citrus oils contained in the skin. seems like a lose lose to me.
Rogério Ceni?
alê oliveira + caio ribeiro
🇧🇷❤️
how much sugar tho?
Velho Barreiro! Dude... there are better choices for sure... 🤣😅
Saude!
I thought you needed some of the Lime skin, so it can release the natural oils?? Guess I was wrong?
You’re right & he’s wrong. That’s the whole point of muddling.
You said 1 measure of sugar. How much sugar
1 oz 1/2 oz ??
Quanto é uma medida de açúcar?
lmao as a Brazilian teenager.....all you need is a blender and a strong liver
Cachaca is hard to find in common supermarkets
I don't know where u live but in Europe it's easy as f
@@homasas4837 i´ve been to Lidl, penny and aldi none had them
BloBlas123 try a gas station or asda
Conalco.de >> Velho Barreiro Gold 1 Liter. Trotz Versand noch am günstigsten.
Uma delicacia
First I messed it up, then I came here.
How much gram sugar is that?
How much sugar did he add? 1 table spoon?
Yes
How much Sugar?>
The lime and sugar really bring out the flavour of the rum.
Which rum?
homasas Cachaça 51
@@martindye so now cachaca is rum?
homasas my bad, definitely not!
@@martindye thank u, my Brazilian roots were triggered
You remove all the white stuff from the middle of the lime, after cutting off the ends and then cutting it N-S, but not all the white stuff below the thick green skin. Why not if they are the same stuff with the same effect of reducing sweetness?
because you want a little bit of bitterness.
i would pour the cachaca in, before you put in the ice and stir it, because cold liquid doenst let the sugar melt.
the out of solution sugar is part of the way the drink is served. It's about texture
@@furthurondown True
Caipirinha is also healthy (moderately drinking) against cold or flu 🤧 is an excellent natural medicine.
Bro I love Caipririnha but there is no health here lol
E nós brasileiros rindo de tanta frescura kkkkkkkl
just discovered a huge mistake in this video, that confused me, when i first saw this vid some years go and tried to make this drink the same way!!
at 1:49 there is a cut that shows the shaker just after muddling and then a closeup to it, pretending that was the result of the muddling... but it isn't
ai dento. abaixo os patrícios
Be careful with these cheap ones you find at supermarket shelves, they mix raw cleaning alcohol with it to fill the bottle, it's not the whole thing made of pure unadulterated cachaça. Honestly, I don't even know if "boutique" brands will have the legit stuff. You will find the "real" cachaça from small farmers on the countryside, and these ones you can drink raw they taste good. For the ones aged in wood search "cachaça envelhecida madeira", these are the places which do the correct process for making them
If you need any let me know, I have to figure out a way of exporting it or shipping it somehow. I know a guy who makes these, now with the cheap dollar we might consider exporting it, would be easier for us. One litre bottle goes for around 20 bucks. I will talk with him to see if there's the possibility of making small bottles for tasting samples, also cheaper to ship those. Reach out, let me know.
I'm interested in getting a bottle
it would taste better with Cachaca 61 !
Differs from the German Caipirinha Version. We use brown sugar and crushed ice.
Do I really need to put in the alcohol? I am a Muslim and also a minor in a Muslim country. I don't know how to acquire such products.
You can drink lemonade😊
@@tamaraoliveira6067 too lemony
The tradicional caipirinha isn't shaken in the cocktail shaker. Bars and restaurants have the habit of using cocktail shaker, because it makes the process faster, the taste smoother and the alcohol more integraded.
How to do like tradicional: th-cam.com/video/MLoUUxCLsKg/w-d-xo.html

PS: Velho Barreiro it's a terrible cachaça.... Try Ypioca, Seleta, Sagatiba
Son limas o limones?
51...
Thank you!!
He cut out all the zest, that's where the aroma is. Cutting out the core is correct. Cachaça is a muddled drink, not shaken. And he used some pretty cheap crappy cachaça, there are hundreds better cachaças If you know where to look.
En Argentina le.metemos sprite con limon queda tremendo re loco te.deja
Limas o limones
Azumanga
That's a blasphemy. Caipirinha is a mounted drink, directly to the cup, YOU DON'T USE SHAKE/MIXERS.
Too much sugar. Do not remove the peel. Use half lemon.
BR É BR BROW . Não adianta
Sorry-“bitter” is what gives the caipirinha its fabulous edge. What’s the point of muddling sugar and lime juice without the peel? And pith!
This mark of cachaça is not good!
The detail of removing the center of the lime was perfect!
Velho Parceiro rapá, que não é boa o quê. Aposto que toma caipirinha de morango.
It might not be the best, but it is reasonably priced - and good for the price range.
nope! you do not shake caipirinha. Caipirinha always is squeezed directly at the cup
What the hell, how strogn is your shake man1? dayum! you broke those big pieces of ice to minced ice with a 10-12 second shake? jesus
Rejected
Pitty that people through away the lime peel,..all the fine oils and aroma is gone,..
Only halfly executed proper.
Dont cut away the skin. This is where you get a lot of aroma and flavour...
if you want to reduce the bitternes first cut the peel away thinly without the piff to use the peel.
then remove the piff of the lime itself....
By leaving the piff on the outside as shown you actually get much more bitterness than with peel on....that step was kind of useless this way
Noooooo!🤦🏼♀️
🤦♀️the same to you.
You don't peel off the lime like this, this is not the original recipe.
Cutting off peels and shake? HAHA
