She was great, very talented and very funny! Had fun hanging out with her. The 1st Muffs album is still my fave because I was at a lot of their earliest gigs around. L.A. 😟⚘
My friend and I had interviewed the muffs in 1992/3 ish, the muffs had been around about a year or less..great interview and I'm hoping to put online somehow..thx for the great music...rip
Vocally, she was a force to be reckoned with.... that raspy, west coast/bay area cadence, was so intense. Her death was 3 days before my birthday, too... I will ALWAYS remember you, Kim! 🤘😔🤘
She was a real tour de force. What an awesome woman !! Funny, talented, beautiful and she seemed to have a good heart. I know it’s been a few years since she died but my heart still goes out to her family because she was too young to go.
I interviewed Kim for my 'zine, probably in '98 of '99, when I was living in San Diego. Ronnie had recently married Lisa Marr and I had asked Kim if she had ever considered collaborating with Lisa. I don't recall her exact words, but they were along the lines of "anything's possible", so I take full credit for The Beards. :) She also told me a story about calling in a bomb threat to her sister's place of work (or perhaps vice-versa). Those crazy Shattuck girls.... I was fortunate to see the Muffs five or six times during the Blonder - Alert era, usually at Casbah in San Diego (what a great venue!), and helped them unload gear a couple of times. Great band, seriously good musicians, and Kim was a fantastic songwriter. Such a unique voice and scream. I really miss her.
I just rediscovered Pixies and learnt of Kim Shattuck's existence. It is very sad. My thoughts are with her family, genuinely. I'm moved by it all. RIP Kim Shattuck.
..man...this is a schocker...just found about it minutes ago...i'm a HUGE Muffy since day ONE....even made my own The Muffs t-shirt using a Sharpie's Black Marker on a regular white t-shirt...was SO proud ..still am wearing it...i miss u already Kimmy....u were SO real and FRESH...the one and only Kim will 4ever live in my heart..my tears are swelling up already.....
Man I discovered her voice like a week ago, then 1 day later find she had passed. The moment I first listened to her sing, I was hooked. Rest in Peace Kim.
I happened to catch the Sad Tomorrow video on 120 Minutes one night when I was about 16. I was recording with my VCR, and just loved that particular video and song. I watched the video over again about 100 times and then picked up the first Muffs album. That's when I started listening to The Muffs. Very sad to learn that Kim has passed away.
What the hell happend? ALS, DAMN. What a loss. Dang, I just jumped online and heard Boy Next Door and found this. What a shocker. Thanks for the tasteful review, Dave.
Great video, man. I had a chance to finally see The Muffs (fan since 1995) when they came to Davis CA but decided to bail and spent my money on alcohol instead because I was a total drunkard. Now I really regret it. So go see your favorite artists kids, because you never know when they will pass. Thanks for the tunes Kim.
Excellent tribute to an amazing artist. Thanks. And yeah if they played it safer maybe the Muffs would have been bigger, but maybe not. And their brazenness was partly why I was a Muffs fan. I'm glad Kim did what she did the way she did and rocked so hard for so long. Life is short, be passionate, not merely acceptable.
Well I am shocked! It's a sad day when you hear about the loss of one of your favourite musician/singer/songwriter idols. Looking forward to the new album.
I found the muffs in November of 2019 and became a huge fan. Love the music. Started doing a little research only to find out she died a month before oh, wow! That is weird and sucks
May u rest in peace, Kim. I, 2. didn't know she had a.l.s. Best wishes 4 her 👪 family. She was awesome musician& Loved her with Pixies& her band 2. . M.
Great video Dave. Such sad news. It's still hard to believe we live in a world without that voice. Funny you mentioned those articles. I also got mad when I saw the articles that only mention her work at the pixies. Glad you also listed the beards at the beginning of the video. That was a really cool side project with Lisa Marr. I got the meet Kim once in person and I actually interviewed her twice on the phone back in 2007. She was always the sweetest. I'm going to try to make a tribute video soon.
I miss that scream so much. She really did have the best scream. May she rest in peace. New to your channel and you seem to have some cool vids so of course I subbed. Cheers from Finland, Petri
The first time I heard The Muffs was on that really random new years TV thing with drew carry, (sp?) and they played a couple of songs off of Happy Birthday To Me.
You should do a video about "Paula Peirce" in the Pandora's. I met her and the Band when they came to Butte Montana back in the 90's really cool people to hang out with. We all Partied at the "Midtown Bar and Cafe" when they came here. They where not just average drinkers wow they could drink. Paula Died, I'm not sure what from, but she was a great person. I also met Kim, and Melanie, excellent music. I have both the CD and the Tape of "Rock Hard" by the Pandora's which now is very, very, rare.
THIS IS SO FUCKING SAD!!! im just now hearing about this. fucking awful... GOD!!! she was so beautiful,so gorgeous and so fucking talented. she will DEFENITLY be missed.
Wow!! I had no idea!! Was just remembering and getting reacquainted with The Muffs here in pandemic 2020, when I saw this video. I was seriously just about to start googling The Muffs to see what they had been up to when this vid appeared while still looking at old songs. A punch in the gut. Sad. I was quite into them in the early 1990’s when I friend of mine gave their cd to me. Oddly enough, I found out Maggie Estep also passed away, she, of a sudden heart attack not so long ago at age fifty, this was discovered while I was performing similar tasks here searching for material. She was another early to mid 90’s heroine for me. It’s all quite sad all of this news, though not quite recent, is recent to me. Thank you for the information.
Interesting fact....The Pandora's used to open for The MENTORS (82-83) and are some of the first "RIOT GIRLS". Kim is one of the girls screaming on the Mentors live albums. She totally loved the mop headed Mentors as she called them in those days.
I was turned on to the Muffs in 94. I went to see them at a small venue in Signal Hill (Long Beach, CA) in 1996. I was formerly a drummer but I was learning to play guitar at the time. I heard the song "On and On" and I wrote to Kim and asked her about the intro of "On and On". I told her it sounded like "I'm Telling You Now" by Freddie and the Dreamers. Kim stated that the into chords were the same and she was a fan of all the 60's Brit Invasion Music. I really thought they were a Great Band and were even better than Green Day!
My maiden name is Shattuck and I never heard of her until the last Grammys had her in the list of who died this last year. But then I'm not into screaming music. She would be related to me since that's not a common name. So I was told we are all related somehow.

I couldn't stand her music in the Muffs... However, she really shined as the Pandoras bass player along with Melanie as the keyboard player for years in the LA clubs. I hung out with her socially and even Courtney Love in the early '90's if anyone remembers Jabberjaw or Raji's--the dive clubs of the punk scene in LA at the time. Kim actually loved the mid-Sixties British Invasion bands and constantly returned to those records for inspiration. All of this pre-notoriety stuff will be lost to time soon; but that's how it was.
I seriously can’t believe she’s gone man
Me neither, she was such a cool person and a good friend to so many of us. So sad. ❤🙁⚘
Man, I'm bummed to hear this. I'm glad I got to see the Muffs once and meet Kim she was as cool as everybody says. RIP Kim.
She was great, very talented and very funny! Had fun hanging out with her. The 1st Muffs album is still my fave because I was at a lot of their earliest gigs around. L.A. 😟⚘

By Kim, thank you for the great music.
R.I.P. 🤘🎸🎤🙏❗️
The world has just become a much darker and sadder place. Love you always, Kim.

My uncle had ALS. It’s such a savage illness. Rest in power Kim

What a great fan I am. I just now found this out, five years after the fact. Saw her in the early 90's in Atlanta. I wann a cry.
So bummed! Just heard this yesterday. Sad
You saw them on their first tour? You're a lucky guy!
I just rediscovered Pixies and learnt of Kim Shattuck's existence. It is very sad. My thoughts are with her family, genuinely. I'm moved by it all. RIP Kim Shattuck.

I miss you so much, rest in peace Kim, your Muffs music made me start my music. A long, last kiss from Como, Italy.
Great piece.🎶😎🎶🎶🎶🎶 🎸 RIP Kim 🎸
Her music videos gave me a lot of joy back in the 90's
She has such a killer voice! Great songwriter.
Kim is one of the greatest Punk Rockers of all time and the Muffs were one of a kind.
Gone too soon! Definitely learned a lot more about Kim here. Thanks for sharing! RIP Kim! 🙏
Just so sad. Kim was great! Love The Muffs!
I saw Kim in the 80's when The Pandoras rocked my world!
Awesome!
Man I discovered her voice like a week ago, then 1 day later find she had passed. The moment I first listened to her sing, I was hooked. Rest in Peace Kim.
Thanks! I didn't really know of the Muffs, but I know her voice!
Thanks for doing the tribute video

I meant playing it safer with the name, only. Music should have stayed exactly the same.
She had a very unique way of breaking lyrics down when she sang them. Very talented
Well I am shocked! It's a sad day when you hear about the loss of one of your favourite musician/singer/songwriter idols. Looking forward to the new album.
really nice video!
Bummer big time. She will be missed.
Met her at Emo's in Houston. Awesome show that night.
RIP Emo's too...
Good memorial video, Dave.

Happy birthday to me is my favorite! I love the vocal harmonies like on "is it all okay?"
She lives on.
The Muffs, Live on.
Be like Kim.
I can’t believe I’m finding out about this now! My heart is broken! R.I.P. Kim 😢
Literalmente conocí a the muffs ayer y hoy quería saber más sobre la banda y me sale este video 😢

She seemed to be happy and smiling a lot. Rarity in music. Horrible way to go. Rip.
so sad about us.
mufffun. rip.
Jesus....i'm devasteded.
Poor Kimmy :( love her always
Thanks for your advice on what albums might be the best. I’m going to get Happy B Day to Me and Blonder and Blonder.
I agree about the name. I dont think they would have been BIG with a different name but bigger. I think that is what made Kim and the Muffs punk.
Kim was a super cool rock and roll chick. Peace.

Oh God i Just discover the muffs.
That's so sad.
Rip ..great girl ...
Good hard voice

♥️
The best scream ever…sigh
I DONT BELIEVE 2019 IS CURSED. . NOT BELIEVE. ..
i knew kim shattuck she was a family freind of mine.
The first time Kim screamed there was a 7.0 earthquake in California. (I don't know if that's true, but if FEELS true)
FUCK. her bridge in the NoFx song "Lori Meyers" is one of the BEST vocals EVER. PERIOD. aw, man, fucking fuck.
:( damn
RIP Lori Myers.
kim gone too soon ♡
Requiescat in Pace Kimberly.
I had no idea she passed away.

Loved her stuff with White Flag ❤️
so traurig...
Aww so sad dudes.
I thought Kim got kicked out of the Pixies for jumping into the crowds
Numerous times
That's what I mean by over enthusiasm
The Dark Stuff, And how, man!
Damn. She died on my birthday.
Can’t believe Courtney outlived her. The witch was probably responsible. Kim was my top female artist
New subscriber here, who sings the intro song for the channel?
@@lindamarie1177 a band called Drakes Hotel. The song is exclusive for me, but if you find them on the streamers, you’ll see they have tons of great songs
that Kim scream should be given the same status as the Wilhelm Scream...
What's the cool song playing at the beginning of your vid -- "I like the dark stuff.."?
It’s our theme song. It was created by a band called Drakes Hotel
Lori Meyers - ‘Nuff said
👍
What's the song in the beginning?
I definitely have felt their music reminds me of green day. Adding Courtney Love into that equation makes a lot of sense. I love the Muffs.
🙁
Off-topic, sorry I need to ask: any details about the song at the beginning? Shazam and Soundhound didn't succeed...

@@Thedarkstuff Yes, exactly. So you mean it's only a few seconds long? What a lost. Really catchy tune.
It’s about 1:30 but I only use 30 seconds
@@Thedarkstuff Do you have a full version somewhere on your channel? 😉
Marcin Kulwas No. I think it exists only on my computer. I don’t know if the band even remembers it.
Also, Kim never murdered anyone. Can't say that about Courtney.
sad
