    Pro tip from a horticulturist, go vertical you'll get so much more productivity out of that little space it will blow your mind. Other than that way-to-grow.

    I feel like growing the produce horizontally like that is extremely space inefficient, you could have multiple layers of horizontal platforms or even growing on vertical walls or poles and be able to grow at least quadripple the amount of produce in the same space. I did learn a lot from this video and am very grateful for this channel, will be building my own aquaponic farm. Thanks!

    • @akb9861
      @akb9861 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think it's already efficient since it has income which from plant and fish. if you make it a vertical setup it'll need more fish tank since it need more fertilizer for the plant

    Question: What do you use for lighting? Natural, LED, T5?
    Thanks for such a great insight into this setup. Its nice to see one thats not incredibly over engineered like a lot of commercial setups are. By the design and thought you put into this Im guessing you've dealt with aquariums in the past. Saying that because i recently have been asking myself why I havent got into aquaponics yet when literally everything about this is pretty much plumbing, flow, and water quality. Also I look at other setups and im like guys it doesnt have to be this complicated lol.
    There's a ton of room for DIY innovation in this space. Very refreshing to see this setup.

    Love this !!!!! This is something I would do, but I would go vertical to fully save and take advantage of space.
    Can you do this with different types of fish in the vats, like koi, catfish, tilapia

    great setup. interesting how many filtration methods you combine. I wonder a bit about your energy consumption because you use a lot of tubes with tight curve radii. I prefer wider curve radii because energy cost is a factor in aquaponics to be profitable at all.

    This looks great! Have you considered an overhead sump configuration (grow beds above fish tanks). I use this configuration in grow tents but there might be obvious reasons why it does not scale. I use the roots as biological filter, helped only by those high density filter pads. It works amazingly well, but I can see why you’re obsessing pre-filtering in a commercial settings.

  • @hello2020
    @hello2020 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You're using the pump without a sump. So how do you manage the flow? Even if there is a timer, the water from raft to fish tank will reach much faster than the gravity flow from fish tank till raft. So how do you mange the issue of rafts overflowing vs raft emptying fast - without a sump ?
    Also, are you able to achieve total fish tank water cycling in 1 hour as per the standard says ?

    • @NewAgrarian
      @NewAgrarian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would have one if there wasn’t a concrete floor. We have to rely on the DWCs to act as a sump. Yes we are able to achieve the one cycle per hour

    • @vampyrmelchior
      @vampyrmelchior 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fish tanks need to be shaded in an aquaponic system if you don't want to have tons of algal growth. There are some systems that benefit from algal growth (crawfish and shrimp I believe)

    Hi sir. I just wanted to ask if it is ok to use concrete tanks as fish tanks in aquaponics?

    • @wolfsfarm7667
      @wolfsfarm7667 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes it is possible but you have to watch the pH. In concrete tanks it tends to get very high (10 and more). But above 8 you get a chemical change from ammonium to ammonia, which is highly toxic to fish. So you might want to paint the inside walls with resin or cover with other materials.

    I've seen some of your videos and wanted to pick your brain. Would you recommend any books that would teach aquaponics for small to large scale systems? I have bought books on subjects before that does have the information required no matter how much you might spend. This is why I ask for your help. By the way, if you think using a system that is not going to make money for you in return is not worth it, may I try to broaden your view a little? GMO's and organic is better for you and if a family eats mostly vegetables and wants to make sure they have good produce raised right, all year long, then it is an investment in well being. Then also if they raise their own food and the grocery bill is diminished, it is like making money. I heard one homesteader diminished theirs, I think it was about 3 years, down to 60% of what they use to pay. Better health? Less money for food? All the incentive needed. Any way I remember you saying something like an aquaponics system is not worth it unless it turns a buck, in one of your videos. I hope with what I mentioned might broaden your view a little in that area. I hope to hear from you soon on those books. May the Lord Jesus Bless His.
