What's funny is that's exactly what Rockwood used to do in a model called the 2507S but it was retired due to lack of popularity.. which is odd I think
My all time fave!! I have a couple of nits to pick, as it were. 😁The countertop extension should be flush with the counter, not lower. Put in a bathroom window that does opens so you can eliminate the peek-a-boo I smell you bathroom door. But I agree with you, I also think Rockwood has THE best Murphy bed system. It's not a bendy bed, it's completely not visible when it's closed, and I love the popup footrests.
This is the model we have from 2018 and we love it. They get better and better. I love how they upgraded the door handles on the outside doors. It's the same doors they have on the more expensive bigger model. I love how they use the boat carpet finally.
We bought this exact model in 2020 for our family of 4, and still absolutely love it!! Haven’t once been tempted to upgrade or wish we had a different model. ONLY thing I wish it had were the new slam latches that are now on the 2024.
I almost love this. Bird cage fits under top bunk, power tower, and storage all sweet. Bathroom door not a no no, but don’t like. But that Queen bed. I’m 6! I’d have to make Hubby sleep in top bunk, not enough room for both of us on bed. Anyway, not problem, Dr put our RVing plans on hold for a year or so yesterday. But I’m still Team Nerd Herd and will continue to follow you! ❤
Hands down the BEST murphy bed…have one in our RW and love it. Enjoy the cargo door addition for 2024. Appreciate showing road mode and all the doors/drawers open.
This was a really good video. Thank you. We currently own a Class A motor home that we bought for a specific purpose in mind for where we lived, but now our circumstances have changed so we are planning to switch over to a travel trailer and this is our #1 pick at this point. Having searched for some videos to watch previously, TH-cam suggested yours this morning and I almost didn't watch it because I've already watched several, but I actually enjoyed yours the most so far.
This is the perfect little family trailer for me. You do a great job showing trailers . I've been watching your videos all night. This one packs a lot of punch. Technically, you could fit 8 people in this one. It will do fine for my family of 3. Or for the in-laws and their extended visits!
This floorplan would be perfect with the sofa or theater seating “option” for the “1950’s diner” booth dinette, a shower door and some matching slide out flooring👍👍👍
This one is really checking a lot of my like it boxes. The only thing in my opinion missing is, a slide cover when the slide is out. It looks well thought out and comfortable. Good one Josh.
Great floorplan. I like how Rockwood generally gets a tub in the mix - something I've never had in an RV but always wanted - especially with three little ones. I wonder if I will ever own a Rockwood. I would.
Love u showing the road mode.. I thought that was a must for me but a year into RVing I've never pulled off the road& spent night. Guess we could use bunk bed if we needed to..I'd like to see Jayco verson of this for sure
My family of 4 was searching for the perfect travel trailer and we ended up going with a 2509S. It's fantastic and has everything we need for some great camping trips.
I don't own a RW trailer, but they are my favorite manufacturer. IMHO, this is the best small family TT in the market. HOWEVER... RWs tongue weights are much higher than most others with similar floor plan. For my tow vehicle (2019 Expedition w/ max tow pkg) with 930 lb max tongue weight and 1750 payload, I can't tow this. Tongue weight with full loaded trailer probably near 1000 lbs. Really sucks because I LOVE this trailer.
We have the same tow vehicle and I would love to have this trailer. Length and weight are a great match for the Expedition, but the tongue weight is the killer. Too bad there isn't an option to delete about 150 pounds from that figure.
I came close to buying this floorplan as did my brother but what ultimately killed it for both of us was the lack of storage. Both of us felt that there just wasn’t enough storage in this unit which is the price you pay in the floorplan. Very much live the slide in and out views and the way you do reviews. I’d love in your stat panel if you could include the axel ratings.

Fold up the table as mentioned and place it vertically in a stand up ( not lay flat) position. Place the table against the rear slider cushion. Hey Josh, for better road mode access, we (and numerous people in the forums) use the slide with it in by sliding spacers into the gap under the leading edge of the slide floor (plastic cutting boards covered in carpeting can do the trick) so it doesn't over-flex when you put weight on it. With this trailer, you could then lower the dinette table or remove it to get around to the kitchen area (and beyond) way more easily. Or is it too risky (or detrimental to your career) to mention these possibilities? You could use caveats like, "Try this at your own risk", "Do your own model-specific research" or "A verbose fella named Ken did it, check with him!"
Just have removable bunks and an optional washer/dryer hookup where the bunks are. I would hang clothes over the washer and dryer as a closet and I would add a cabinet over the sink and remount the TV there.. awesome!
My uncle Gary wants a green exterior just like he has after drinking all that green beer on st. Patrick's day last Sunday. The leprechaun door is cool. Every rv should have one.

I do love this rig. But after careful consideration I went with the Surveyor Legend 240BHLE. Over 200lbs less in tongue weight, a true 60x80 queen. Just easier on the half ton for towing. This rig has a lot more storage outside and inside. But the Surveyor also has more cargo capacity. For me, It just came down to the numbers…
@@h20fowler2012is it loud? We’ve had one with the direct dump style and it was so loud we couldn’t talk or sleep. Love everything about the 240 but that is my only concern.
Thanks for the video, Josh. This is a fantastic family unit. The next big thing I think they should do is anti-lock brakes. It would make this coach pretty hard to beat at that point, IMHO.
Us at KNE we just got a Flagstaff in last week and this one I'm REALLY thinking we might finally buy. Well think we might get the recliners instead of the dinette. I really like the Murphy bed and the cargo door in the back. It's either this one or Jayco 22BH jay feather. Oh and hey the Flagstaff model has the struts for the cabinets above the dinette.
Rockwood and flagstaff don’t have any difference in equipment So if that has struts, then it’s possible they were added after the date I recorded this video. Which would make me happy
Broadcast my problem what travel trailers is where are you taking them because the campgrounds are getting worse and worse restrictions of pond restrictions
I think I looked at this exact model at the local RV expo two weeks ago. Wasn't sold, but not unsold either, the local dealer had a "show price" a lot closer to MSRP than Bish's, so if we get one, we'll hit you up. My biggest dislike was that with the slide closed, we'd have to parkour into the bathroom, which, when potty training small humans, with my creaky knees, is not something I'd voluntarily do if I could avoid it. Price-wise, the Apex Nano with a similar bunkhouse plan is closer to the budget I can squeeze out of the breadwinner of our family, and you can access the whole thing with the slide in, but finish-wise and thoughtful details-wise, I really like the Rockwood better. The kids that came with me agree. I'm not looking to buy this year, but pricing out units, with my truck's towing capacity in mind, the Rockwood is a contender. We want light and boondocking friendly. Haven't found the perfect unit yet. Like big tanks, big batteries, and lots of solar, or upgradable solar packages. As a humorous side note, my three year old has claimed the cargo space under the bottom bunk as "Dis my woom! Me want sleep underneef", so I guess the 90 pound dog gets to sleep in the dinette? We'll figure it out. Like I commented on the video about the Apex Nano today, I'd almost want a big U dinette at the end where most manufacturers put the murphy bed, and have a sleeper sofa in the slide with some wardrobe or pantry space. We spend time on laptops and tablets, homeschool, eat meals, do arts and crafts, and play boardgames at our kitchen table at home base. We LIKE a big dinette, it's practically a must have. There have been a few couple's camper floorplan units I walked into where, when the entry and dinette is in the rear, there's a natural spot for a coat closet at the end of the kitchen cabinetry, sofa or theater seats in the slide, some kind of split bath or walk-through bathroom to a front bedroom, and generally just for traffic flow inside the camper, I can see it'd work better for me, if a similar design was applied to a bunkhouse model, or a quad bunk layout. Lots of kids, little room, low budget... Some day a manufacturer might make me the perfect "forever" floorplan, but we really just want something smallish to sleep 6+ and have a hot meal in, while either traveling long distances, or weekend warrioring in our region. Mostly boondocking, regardless, because if you look out my kitchen window, there's mountains out there and lots of places to just park and go out and enjoy the wilderness.
Can the double over double bunks be turned into a double over single? I was thinking this would be great of pets to have access to look out the window along with floor access. Especially for a cat, window and litter box.
We recently had our Rockwood rep Steve at our delaership in Alabama, and he mentioned that Rockwoods just have added those struts to the top cabinets, so from now on they should have them.
Wife and I LOVE this model EXCEPT it's inability for the murphy bed to come down like in the new Jayco 21MBH. Take the storage tower out to the right of the dinette so the bed can come down. You still have the storage tower by the bathroom. I would gladly give up the storage so the bed could come down.
Agreed, then you could also fit a real queen also? I think they put the cabinet there because it is cheaper than a front window in the dinette. Which i also would prefer to the cabinet.
Josh, i like it for the most part. Pretty well executed, although I'd make the bathroom window open so a normal door can be used for the bathroom. Besides that tho, i have a thing against front windshields on Murphy bed models. They are nothing but a thermal hole that serves no purpose. During the day the Murphy is up, blocking the window. At night the Murphy is down, but so is the shade for privacy, blocking the window. Get rid of the window!!!!
I bought my FE 238bhs based on your videos, Josh. Many thanks. Love some of these premium features that I had to add to my rig... But how does my trailer have room for more kitchen counter and a full size queen murphy in the same length?
That's awesome TY so much for watching! Mind dropping me a review at g.page/r/CdPcitNVx2nDEAg/review for the helpful video? Your RV has an 80" queen because it's a folding mattress with a less-stubby nose cap
Love this and am hoping to upgrade to it this year but what updates are next??? Will I miss out on anything by not waiting longer? Any hints on 24.5's? My ideal change to this model would be to make the bunk system similar to the Embers. We have 4 years left with the kids then could turn that into an awesome storage room when bunks aren't needed. Also is it just me or are the water hook ups above the electrical and odd placement choice? We use an exterior filter at the trailer connection on our Geo and the would get in the way of that. I know there is a filter in the trailer but I listen to what my wife wants with this one :) Love your videos, keep up the great work!
Been having my eye on this model for quite sometime, for possible upgrade from my Flaggstaff Hybrid. We currently have an island kitchen, so counter space is awesome...To maximize counter space I think a 2 burner stove would suffice. We have a 3 burner, and ONLY used 1 at a time(only the front one)... The oven is just storage for pots and pans for us. So what I'm thinking is a convection/airfryer oven, where the microwave is, that would be more versatile with storage where the oven goes. Would love to have that option.
I am a big fan of the rock woods. Love the black out shades and the big vet fan. Has great living space. What are the cabinets material are they made of. Thxs josh!
Interesting my 24 I bought last month has the analog thermostat look like this one has a digital! Wish mine was the upgraded one. Any idea what model they used?
Josh, I wonder how the bean counters figure what to keep/eliminate? They put the high end fan, (unlike Jayco dollar store fart fan), other nice features but save $10 on struts, lol. Another great review by the Nerd! Thanks
Does the black/gray water fill the sewer drain pipe all the way down to the gate valve? If so, while heat will help the tanks themselves, wouldn't any exposed exterior line from the underbelly to the gate valve potentially freeze if boondocking for a day or 3 in 25-30 degree temps? I wonder if using wrapping in heat tape like we do with trailer houses would be a solution?
yeah the gate valve is always where the water would stop when closed Since rockwood doesn't actually cold chamber these I can't give you any specific temp info
I always considered the 2509s the premiere smallish double double bunk, double axle trailer. BUT... for my money, the bend bed Surveyor 240bhle does all you need, and some things better. Buy yourself a quality 3in foam topper and the 80in bendy bed is an improvement over the 74in lawn chair bed that eats up your pass through storage.
MFGs dont really do bunk deletes. They just offer other layouts that don't have bunks. If you generally like this RV but don't want bunks, then THIS is the one you'd want to look at: th-cam.com/video/sIlcwZVhxjI/w-d-xo.html
Josh -- I've seen multiple videos, including some of yours, that advise absolutely NOT loading the slide when retracted. But this trailer has all this nice storage in the slide. Do you (or better yet Rockwood) have a comment on how heavily you can load these slide storage areas? I assume in road mode that it can't support a lot of weight. But then if it can't, how useful is that space really?
MFGs account for storage they include. Those cabinets are anchored to multiple points and secured on multiple sides of the box. MFGs don't account for a person they didn't place in the middle of a floating slide with an unsupported edge
@@JoshtheRVNerd Finally started looking at these more heavily and may be interested to know that Rockwood recommended not to exceed 150lbs total items in slide storage. Seems like with all that space, would be very easy to exceed. Just thought you may be interested to hear this.
Beings slides aren’t generally advertised as being able to be used while in the closed position due to weight and support, are the slides with full storage and outside access engineered different?
Apologies I don't have that info. MFGs don't usually provide any more measurements than what I've already shared on video Thankfully our local folks could grab a tape measure and check that for you at 800-256-5196
Strange they could not give 2 more inches to lay the jackknife sofa down in road mode. And why not a full queen since it cant be down in road mode anyway? Love the large front window, but would be nice to have bigger windows than those porthole side windows. Would love a multi-function bunk room that can be used as an office sometimes. Wish they would give a full size read load door. Should just mount the tv to the cabinet door then use the door for the swing arm, and give us a full size cabinet.
I love a full queen but it could not fit in the "up" position without being a folding mattress. Full queen is 80" Tall. Walls of this RV are 78". The math doesn't work as it turns out
I love this camper and would love to purchase it but the hitch weight has me concerned. My truck specs fit this perfectly with the exception of the hitch weight. The factory (dry) hitch weight of the 2509S is 773lbs, the camper hitch weight is in my trucks range. From watching and learning from your videos the calculated hitch weight of the 2509s is 974lbs. Hitch weight divided by empty weight multiplied by the max weight. (773/5499*6933 = 974). My trucks specs….. 2024 Chevy 1500 crew cab short bed 4X4 with tow package. GVWR - 7000 GCWR - 14500 RGAWR - 3800 Curb weight - 5185 Max payload - 1815 Conventional TWR - 9000 Max tongue weight - 900
That's where weight distribution hitches come in. They shift some of that hitch weight off the vertical hitch area and onto the tires of the RV and front tires of the vehicle I can't say how much exactly as it depends on how it's set but I feel like your vehicle would be fine here
We have this model with 3 kids and it’s AWESOME!!!! Great rv. Tons of premium features

Yeah I call that travel bath access the “dukes of hazard yeehaw”
Can the double over double bunks be turned into a double over single? I was thinking this would be great of pets to have access to look out the window along with floor access. Especially for a cat, window and litter box.
Factory doesn’t really offer that but we could easily just remove the bottom hinging section to accomplish that
gotta get me some of that jerky!!
We recently had our Rockwood rep Steve at our delaership in Alabama, and he mentioned that Rockwoods just have added those struts to the top cabinets, so from now on they should have them.
That’s awesome!
Steve is awesome and actually one of their team leaders
I love it! Says 5499 dry weight. 😮
Is there storage under the couch cushions so when you flip up the murphy you could put your pillows in there?
Under the sofa is actually the pass-thru
Hi Josh I'm up here in Canada what do we have to do to buy an rv and bring it back to Canada
7ft tall ceiling. Listen to this Rockwood.
👍🏻
Ooo it has the bedroom window for the stars
☺
Josh, i like it for the most part. Pretty well executed, although I'd make the bathroom window open so a normal door can be used for the bathroom. Besides that tho, i have a thing against front windshields on Murphy bed models. They are nothing but a thermal hole that serves no purpose. During the day the Murphy is up, blocking the window. At night the Murphy is down, but so is the shade for privacy, blocking the window. Get rid of the window!!!!
I actually agree regarding front windows
Great video !!
Thank you so much!
Wish they would bring back the sink in the outdoor kitchen. Lots of improvements since our 2019 model but that was a step back.
Man I agree completely
I bought my FE 238bhs based on your videos, Josh. Many thanks.
Love some of these premium features that I had to add to my rig... But how does my trailer have room for more kitchen counter and a full size queen murphy in the same length?
That's awesome TY so much for watching! Mind dropping me a review at g.page/r/CdPcitNVx2nDEAg/review for the helpful video?
Your RV has an 80" queen because it's a folding mattress with a less-stubby nose cap
good video Josh
Thanks!
Turn those bunks into a closet, and it makes a great couples camper
Do all the outside storage compartments lock?
Yes
There is always something new
But there is always time lost by waiting
And often costs only go up with those updates
Been having my eye on this model for quite sometime, for possible upgrade from my Flaggstaff Hybrid. We currently have an island kitchen, so counter space is awesome...To maximize counter space I think a 2 burner stove would suffice. We have a 3 burner, and ONLY used 1 at a time(only the front one)... The oven is just storage for pots and pans for us. So what I'm thinking is a convection/airfryer oven, where the microwave is, that would be more versatile with storage where the oven goes. Would love to have that option.
I like that idea
I am a big fan of the rock woods. Love the black out shades and the big vet fan. Has great living space. What are the cabinets material are they made of. Thxs josh!
cabinets are lumbercore/pocket screwed with a wrap
@@JoshtheRVNerd Thxs
Interesting my 24 I bought last month has the analog thermostat look like this one has a digital! Wish mine was the upgraded one. Any idea what model they used?
Apologies I see too many RVs to remember that kind of detail but a local team member may be able to check for you
I like this one. Does anyone make a similar floorplan but with a full queen Murphy bed (not bendy bed either)?
Not that i've seen. Non-bendy true queen = too tall for MOST rv ceilings so we don't tend to get them
Great review, as always. Could a true Queen mattress be "squished in" and still fold up in day mode?
I can’t say for sure but I don’t know how that might work unless it was REALLY squishy
Josh, I wonder how the bean counters figure what to keep/eliminate? They put the high end fan, (unlike Jayco dollar store fart fan), other nice features but save $10 on struts, lol. Another great review by the Nerd! Thanks
I bet it's not even $10 on those struts. It surprised me they removed them
Great job
Thank you!
I wonder if using wrapping in heat tape like we do with trailer houses would be a solution?
yeah the gate valve is always where the water would stop when closed
Since rockwood doesn't actually cold chamber these I can't give you any specific temp info
@@JoshtheRVNerdThanks Uncle Josh! No video has ever actually stated that, so I was assuming that'd be the case. Thanks for clarifying!
Nice job Josh!
Thank you!
Would a residential queen bed fit and still fold up?
It couldn’t. That bed is taller than the ceiling. Thats why they have a short queen
Bathroom door seems to be getting shorter....at least if ya forot a towel, tp,dinners ready, you can pass it over
😆
I always considered the 2509s the premiere smallish double double bunk, double axle trailer. BUT... for my money, the bend bed Surveyor 240bhle does all you need, and some things better. Buy yourself a quality 3in foam topper and the 80in bendy bed is an improvement over the 74in lawn chair bed that eats up your pass through storage.
Surveyor really does some smart things "for the money" by comparison I think
We are waiting for our 2506S 2024. You should do a video on it too. The video you have done for this model are from 2022.
Yeah I'm overdue for some updates on it. TY
Does it come as a bunk delete for couples?
🎉NerdHerd
What is Jayco version of this?
21 mbh.
Right here m.th-cam.com/video/H7lJkJSmfbc/w-d-xo.html
Beings slides aren’t generally advertised as being able to be used while in the closed position due to weight and support, are the slides with full storage and outside access engineered different?
MFGs account for storage spaces they create but not for people's bodies they dont
@@JoshtheRVNerdVery good, thanks so much!!!
Do both bunk windows open?
They do
You can pass a chainsaw over that bathroom door gap to cut logs....
What is the width on the cargo door?
Apologies I don't have that info. MFGs don't usually provide any more measurements than what I've already shared on video
Thankfully our local folks could grab a tape measure and check that for you at 800-256-5196
#RVNerdHerd 🎉 😊 🎉
Is there one of these RV's without the bunks?
MOST Rockwood’s don’t have bunks. Here’s a sample m.th-cam.com/video/dsc3TwjcTjc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Josh!
GVWR - 7000
GCWR - 14500
RGAWR - 3800
Curb weight - 5185
Max payload - 1815
Conventional TWR - 9000
Max tongue weight - 900
That's where weight distribution hitches come in. They shift some of that hitch weight off the vertical hitch area and onto the tires of the RV and front tires of the vehicle
I can't say how much exactly as it depends on how it's set but I feel like your vehicle would be fine here
@@JoshtheRVNerd That’s Awesome, thank you so much for replying to my comment.
Your video’s are fantastic and make me laugh all the time. 👍
Nice, but too heavy for my Taco.
I’m torn between this and the Rockwood 2706ws.
I need to see the updated 2025 version of that 2706
@@JoshtheRVNerd agreed, I toured the 2024 of both of them and they’re both what I’m looking for 😅
That front passthrough storage... not so sure about that.
Amazingly they used to do NO pass-thru
I’m half reclined when I’m so inclined.
lol nice
Double azdel!?
Inside and outside layer. Single Azdel is outside only and plywood inside.
Bill nailed the answer!
This rv has double
I have this trailer, and i absolutely hate this U dinette. It should just be 2 bench seats and a fixed table that drops down like the 2515.
I wonder if we could request one like that for you..
@@JoshtheRVNerd imagine 3 wild small kids eating cereal on that wobbly table instead of a nice table secured to the wall/floor.
Flagrock
Give me a Murphy bed sofa that’s comfortable with a backrest that will tilt even slightly backwards. The foot kick ups are really a joke.
I'd be here for it
Swear I just heard the transformer sound
You did 😉
