Thanks for the helpful review. I was debating on either the alien gear or the raw dog holster and you helped me make my decision. I am going with the raw dog. I am a new concealed carrier as well and I was worried about having to spend a lot of money on different style holsters to find the one I would like. I am very certain that this one will work for me. Thanks again!
Hello Jeremy, I’m having the same dilemma as you. I know it’s been a while since you made this comment but were you happy with your decision to go with the Raw Dog? I am a new concealed carrier and am having trouble finding a holster that would be comfortable to wear with jeans every day.
Yes. I will do that. I still really like this holster. I plan to make another video review of it after the bulk of the summer is over. Since the part of this holster that goes against your body is leather, I want to see how it holds up with heat and moisture, first.
Great vid, I actually have the exact same gun and alien gear holster and like you said its made pretty well but I'm not the biggest guy so after seeing this I think I'm gonna try the raw dog for my shield as well. thanks for the review!
the NRA holster you have is also made by Gallen. They sell them at Academy for $15 that also has a clip for IWB. It's not that great though. It has a small lip under clip that makes it a little difficult to clip on and it covers some of the grip handle on my gun so drawing is also difficult. However, it is great for concealment and it's quite comfortable in the 3:30-4:00 position.
Nice vid. Mine has shipped. Looking forward to checking it out! I'm assuming that the ammo in your mag is your range ammo, and not your carry ammo. As those look like FMJ's to me. Stay safe!
Wavetechlifeguardian Awesome! I figured that. :-) Those hi def videos. You notice stuff. After experimentation with all the different kinds out there. I am partial to hybrids. I figured a small single clip design hybrid would be a great first choice IWB for my new Shield. The Alien Gear and others like it are great, but I"m hoping to be happier with, smaller gun, smaller holster.
I'm planning on purchasing one of these for my MP Shield. The interesting thing is I purchased an MP Bodyguard .380 specifically for sweats and shorts carry as the Shield is a bit heavy and pulls down non supportive wear like sweats and shorts. So, brought Bodyguard for those days And ordered a raw dog holster for it, still waiting. So you think this holster can work for my Shield in sweats and shorts? I'm ordering it for Shield IWB either way for EDC. But am surprised to hear you say it works well for you in sweats.
As long as your sweats have a strong draw string, they should work. My sweatpants and scrubs have a hefty waistband, with good draw string, so the holster fits comfortably. I don't go running with it in though.
I'd like to be able to agree or disagree with you, but Raw Dog doesn't seem to want to ship my holster. They sure didn't take long to debit my checking account though.
Dave Millard I did not know that? Lefties always get the shaft! Certain guns, I shoot better left handed, so prefer to give my right hip a break and carry on the left. Luckily for me, the Shield is a gun the I shoot equally well, left or right, so not as big a deal for me. My Beretta Nano will only get left a hand holster, though. I can't shoot it without hurting my right hand.
+Dave Millard They come out with a left hand draw Jan 1, 2016 however, Spend a few bucks more and get an Alien Gear Holster. This holster is junk, waste of money, and doesn't even hold your pistol well. Very uncomfortable to wear unless you have a small pistol(full size was not comfy) I wouldn't buy from Raw Dog again. I did this to test it out and see what the hype was about. They're very cheaply and poorly designed/made. And the magazine release button pushes up against your pant/hip. Easy to lose a magazine if you're not careful
Did anyone ever use a leather gun belt with this holster? I just received my Raw Dog and attempted to wear it on my 1.5" wide x 0.25" thick true gun belt. When the clip is in the canted position, the belt is too thick and the clip does not properly secure the holster. It appears the molding of the shell in that canted position is the problem when used with a real gun belt. When the clip is in the straight draw position no problem.
Gregory Goelz Thanks. Yes I've had many people tell me the same thing. I was being cheap, at the time! These days, I keep it loaded only with quality defensive ammo. I just figured that any ammo would be good enough, since the odds of needing it, are so low. That's not going to help if innocent lives are on the line...

I just ordered the Raw Dog purple haze holster for my S&W SD40 on Thursday. Hopefully I'll get it by this coming weekend. Can't wait to try it!
Thanks for doing this review. I'd like to see a follow up video to see what you think now after a few months.

Yes. You are right. That is range ammo. I was too lazy to change it out before the video. Very observant.

Just ordered mine. How long did it take for you to receive it? Great vid
I ordered mine a few weeks before Christmas and had it by Christmas, during the holiday rush. It's still looking and working great,

How much did you pay for it?
CptPhilippines It was less than $50, with shipping.

I hope you don't carry that with target ammo...
