- Roses are readily available year-round at even the grocery store. Every now and then, Rajiv makes a very elaborate 'Rose Dome'. This technique can also be used to make an arrangement with just a single bunch or roses, in a much smaller container.

“Going out and splurging on roses like this on a random Tuesday” = Romancing the Ordinary ❤
❤❤❤
"Romancing the Ordinary" love that. ❤
Sipping coffee in bed while watching Rajiv arrange roses, what a lovely way to set the pace on a Saturday morning.
I’m gonna rock my tax return after this 🦋🙏🏼
I hope someone brought you that cup of coffee!😊
Ha so am I on a Friday morning! In Sydney, ❤
I was taught that when you cut a rose the stem immediately “takes a breath” and if you cut them in the air, the stem will “inhale” an air bubble. When that rises to the top you see the rose bend over like a candy cane. So you should cut the rose under water so they take a sip instead and the stem is completely hydrated.
It doesn’t matter. When you cut them 45 angle put them to water at once. It rather depends on freshness of flowers.
This is correct, but more importantly; using warm to hot water for roses will help them take up water better.
This brings back memories! I did my undergrad at Oklahoma State University and I was already accepted to a PhD program my last semester and did not have major requirements left. I took a floral arrangement class as an elective because I love flowers and design - we had the same advice about cutting stems under water. This class was in the horticulture department which makes a lot of sense, given how much science is involved in plant cultivation and farming. Amongst many [male] farming science majors, this class had a reputation for being an "easy A." It was really sweet how the young men in my class would make amazing arrangements and then would announce to each other at the end of class, "my Momma will love this," or "this is for my girl." No shame in creating something beautiful, yet flowers are so taboo to our trad concepts of masculinity.
@@friendosal6017living in OKC right now, and love this story! You’ve inspired me to see if there are any community flower arranging classes here.
Taking this in mind, I assume the breath occurs when the rose is 1st cut from the bush as well? Does this mean twice it’s done this? 🥀
Not only is the arrangement beautiful but you also made the vessel. Incredible!

Tips to make your flowers last longer: (I've had roses last 3 weeks plus 2 days) inspect flowers when buying, as old bunches are often mixed in with new. Condition flowers by cutting stems and removing ALL leaves that would be below the water, and then place in fresh, cool water for at least 1 hour. Then arrange your flowers in your display container, giving the stems a fresh cut, to the desired length. Keep the arrangement as cool as possible! The roses that lasted 23 days were kept in my bedroom, where the window never closes. Hot, dry living rooms are about the worst place to have flowers. At least put the flowers in a cool place at night if possible. It is NOT necessary to cut stems under water, but keep roses as cool as possible! 🌹
Anytime you are working with your hands and a song comes to mind, singing that sing will expand your soul and add magic to your work🦋🙏🏼🪷
I am a florist. I have been a floral designer since I was 16 years old; which has been a few years. 😉 And yet, an instructional video on a topic that I am already well acquainted with that has been posted by Rajiv is still a must see. ❤
Beautifully done, Rajiv!
I would watch your video even if you were teaching us how to watch paint dry!
I'm honored and flattered, thank you!
I’m waiting for my Earth Angels, Madame Annisette, Eden climber, and Cherry Parfait to bloom… it will be a few weeks but just to say good morning to them every morning brings me joy❤️
I can see them in my mind, what a wonderful thing to have roses in the garden.
Thanks Rajiv, your rose dome is stunning. About two months ago I started buying flowers at the grocery store even when I was the only one who would see the arrangement, it makes me happy every time I see them!!
Well tomorrow, Tuesday, is my 67th birthday so thank you for your roses display :D. Two of my dear daughters will be antique shopping with me
As i saw this flower arrangement in one of the last videos in the background i wondered if we would see how to make one ourselves🌹My grandmother told me that flowers in a bouquet can make a room smile and i love to place fresh flowers in our entry way every now and then. I am alway so happy when i pass it😊
Will you show how to build a beatiful vase/ jardiniere? like that? I guess theres intricate detail involved in making one by hand 😇😍
I agree with your grandmother.
I had a croissant with a cup of Indian tea. I was preparing something for lunch and opened the yt and Rajiv uploaded a video😂.
Nothing can beat to start the weekend with Rajiv's video. Good morning.
Thanks for watching!
I had to immediately paused the video to comment that Rajiv's beautiful singing inspired a big smile on my face. I am having a stressful week and appreciate the lightness of Rajiv's energy when he is in his element
It’s amazing the things I have been watching just because this talented man posts it. ❤😂
If you already have the idea that Rajiv can do anything, then he confirms this: 💛
Rajiv can really do ANYTHING, even sing a romantic song in German!💛
How beautiful!💛💛💛
I love you , ive worked with oasis b4. One tip i have for you is as a hairdresser of 40 yrs when you use scissors dont use your middle finget use your ring finger
,thats how i was taught and it gives much more fluidity. 😊😊😊😊😊
I often think about the reality of how royally we live in comparison to not so long ago. I feel regal just watching this :) the beauty within you shows in all you do Rajiv. Thank you for sharing x
Rajiv is my religion
It’s midnight in South Australia. Thank you for this delightful video! Love it!

Love you aussies!
@@joycemansfield1108 awww love you too from🇦🇺
Those roses look great in that white bucket too…. Everything Rajiv posts is beautiful ❤
That was so meditative.. and the last shot with the ray of sun through the window was perfect! You had us in rapt attention through the whole thing.
I agree with having fresh flowers in my home, just because. I almost always have at least one bouquet in my apt; I especially love seeing them in my bathroom! Thanks for this tutorial. ❤
Γεια σου απο την Αθηνα εχεις πολυ καλο γουστο σε ευχαριστω για τις εικονες που μας φερνεις!
I agree- why not make the ordinary everyday special--why wait. Thanks. 🎈
What a perfect intro😊 I didn't know about letting the water seep into oasis, great tip. Also I never put flower food in at all, so that also was helpful.
Absolutely stunning rose arrangement. Thank you Rajiv🌹
Some tips: 1. Start with where you want your highest flower to be to create a more consistent shape. 2. You don’t really want to pull the flowers back out of the Oasis to alter the shape because that leaves a hole in the foam that the flower can’t effectively drink from anymore.
Source: My florist mom yelling at me when I work for her. 🤣
Mom’s know best. Especially since she is a florist. ❤
So pretty! I love how you angled the base of the container on an angle of your table.
Just because. And as a gift someone would doubly love the energy and effort put into this. Grocery store roses and a thrifted container will take time but way less money.
Unforgettable
Rajiv is always surprising and inspiring me in ideas to do in my mountain home. Thank you for this beautiful classical enchanting arrangement 😊
Thank you Rajiv and Happy Saturday. Started my morning enjoying your video. Now on to morning tea and the farmers market. Prefect.
Thank you, Rajiv, for yet another beautiful video and bringing peace to my mind. There was drama at the neighbour's today, it was quite disturbing. Thank you for making my mind peaceful.
Well for the life of me I can't find my comment so unintentionally I might have added it to someone else.
It said something like roses are my favorite I love the red but I discovered white with purple flowers with yellow centers you know the ones the name escapes me but it makes a gorgeous arrangement❤ thanks again and Be Good To Yourself 🙏💜🕯️
My mom isn’t really into roses but because I love them she plants them! 😅missing her green thumb. She can grow everything! I’ll do this later …❤
Musical performances while the artist creates a flower arrangement would be a joy to watch live😊
Exquisite! To smile with a bed of roses! 🌹🌹🌹
So, so gorgeous Rajiv! Nicely done ❤ Bravo! 👏
I agree with an idea of buying flowers whenever i what to. My husband and i agreed not to follow the trends , he can get me flowers anytime, just because!
I really enjoyed this video. Very calming to look atm and i love your ethos on enhancing life with little luxuries. I would love to see a video about curating a wardrobe mindfully. I am moving from the Caribbean to Japan (2 seasons to 4-5), and i am a bit overwhelmed. You seem to know just exactly what you like and how to not have too much of it. Thank you
Beautiful arrangement and wonderful instruction, Rajiv! 😍You could potentially get an even longer-lasting arrangement by using chicken wire (I acknowledge you mentioned you usually use chicken wire.) It's not as easy in the style (stunning!) vase you've made, but that's the fun challenge, in my opinion. Oasis is a toxic, microplastic material that the floral industry is really trying to educate people to move away from - and it does come with the convenience or ease factor as a trade-off. It would be so fun to do a collaborative floral instruction video with you!
Could you use those giant sponges one uses to wash a car with ? Would be reusable to a point !?
@@m.maclellan7147 hmmm, I’m not sure exactly what you’re talking about, but I would venture to guess that a sponge wouldn’t hold the weight of most stems and wouldn’t be a renewable or biodegradable material. Agrawool is an environmentally friendly Oasis alternative, but it only works with certain flowers and specific applications. So I just use chicken wire or curly willow mainly. 🙃
Rajiv...you inspire us to make an ordinary day simply beautiful...Thank you 😊
Lol! I've been thinking about your jardiniere and even began a search for an urn flower vase😅 this video came at the right time! What a welcomed synchronicity😊
I am saving this episode - for years I’ve called the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens to get into their horticulture class and each time I either called too early, too late, or the class was full. You just satisfied a lot of past years - as usual, YOU ARE THE BEST of TH-cam- thank you so much -
I've always loved flower arranging. My first job was cutting flowers from the owners field and selling them at the farmers market in bouquets. It was heaven in that field. There is a show in San Francisco that takes Paintings and shows them with a florists creation based on the painting. It's called bouquets to Art. The most stunning bouquet I remember was a painting of a beautiful elegant woman and a flower arrangement accompanying it looking just like the ladies figure in colors, including her head. I've never forgotten that.
What a lovely soul.
I must get roses 🌹! ❤
I’ve always bought flowers for myself for no reason other that , they look beautiful! But now with this wonderful video I will arrange them so beautifully…. I have to buy me a base like yours! Something similar that speaks to me ❤…. To the thrift store 💪🏼😅
Couldn’t dream of getting so many roses or any other flowers on any ordinary day because they are so expensive where I live in Australia!
Same here in Trinidad. We have lots of wild flowers though, so I make arrangements with that
Prepping asparagus for tomorrow night's dinner and in the background, my friend, Rajiv, is telling me how to make a domed flower arrangement. It is so informative, peaceful and inspiring. Thank you for keeping me company while I cook.
I'm good to myself everyday roses okay but I have a preference for another flower🤗💓 that's beautiful just the same.
I love when he sings ❤❤❤
You are amazingly wonderful! Thank you so much for your beautiful soul!
Stunning arrangement... and that music! :)
Thank you, Rajiv.
I grew up watching Bob Ross videos and this gives me that same vibe. Just calm and happy ❤
❤ beautiful, many thanks
Thank you you’re the best. Good advice
Beautiful flowers 💐
Thank you for a very relaxing time with you after a long week. Always a pleasure to learn something. It puts me into good mood for a weekend. ❤
Your german is very good. Thanks for throwing some in there.
Just magnificent!!!❤
Beautiful work! ❤🎉
I so agree with the he random acts of self love 💕
Es ist so schön dich deutsch reden zu hören 😊❤
Rajiv, you just have the most radiant personality and voice, that just shines through your videos, straight to us viewers at home . As always , I love your videos ❤. Thank you for the upload 😊
Lieber Rajiv, deine Videos dind eine reine Wohltat für Seele und Geist. Ich bin dankbar für jeden deiner Beiträge und ich liiiebe es dich Deutsch singen und reden zu hören! Take care, we all need you!
Love your work Raj. Was sad to see floral foam being used though 😢 Have you heard of Kenzans/pin frogs before? They may work as a replacement to the micro-particle plastic foam. They can also be found in Vintage/antique stores, where I never noticed them before I knew what they were- now they are a joy to find! Many have lasted the test of time pre single use plastic foam invention.
Hope to see you try it one day. 😌
Want a brown people hair care video lol. Please entertain us. Love how you style your tangles❤
When I create an Ikebana design it is a meditative process. Great video thankyou Rajeev.
Thanks for watching
This would also look good with multi color roses!
Your the perfect guy 😊
Beautiful!😍
Thank you so much you are so sweet you always inspire me❤
Beautiful decorations
You're such a delight as always! Thank you for making me smile.
If you love making flower domes, you might like vintage mesh rose bowls. No oasis foam needed, just the bowl, some water, and flowers
A kenzan (Japanese metal pin frog) works great, too
I used to buy flowers once a week and make arrangements. There was a woman who sold flowers just outside my subway station and she always had different flowers each week and I only had to spend $25 for enough flowers to make a large arrangement.
Rajiv, I could really watch you do anything. You’re so calming and engaging in delightful. Seriously, the next time you clean your toilet, you can make a video, and I’m here for it! I also keep flowers in my house as much as possible and buy them at the grocery store, usually. I wish the flower whole sales were open here, but sadly they aren’t. Do you ever go to the flower whole sale/market in NYC?
I think I remember a previous video you did on flower arrangement and you talked about flower markets…? 🤔
Perfection Tuesday!
Wunderschön lieber Rajiv - der liebliche Gesang und das behutsame Arrangieren der Rosen! I enjoyed it so much living in Germany....
Just lovely ❤
Another great video! I was actually just in a bit of a bad mood due to a conversation with someone, and this relaxing and informative video was just what I needed 😂.
Thank you.
Beautiful 🌹🌹🌹
You seem such a joy to be around I really do enjoy your videos. If you do have a girlfriend she is extremely lucky!
Thanks for watching! If I had a girlfriend, she would not be lucky considering I'm gay ;-)
@@rajivsurendra Oh!😍 Well if you did have a boyfriend he would be extremely lucky!🤗
Your voice is sooooo beautiful!!!!!❤
I love this
Omg! I so dislike the “holiday “ thing! You are the first person I’ve met who sees them as boxes as I do😀😘
You are a breath of fresh air! There is something calm about you and your personality! And btw, what is he plant you are growing on your window sill?
It’s beautiful Raji ❤
I love the opera from the movie, a room with a view…god I love Julian sands
BEAUTIFUL ❤😊
I love Rajiv
Wow beautiful. ❤
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Rajiv, So thrilled to arise to a peaceful and beautiful video. I have been soaking my oasis the wrong way, always learn something from your videos. Where do I purchase one of your pottery pieces? I need to treat myself on this dreary Sat! Why has HGTV not offered you a show???
Hi Mary, I don't sell my pottery pieces online, but if you're local and are able to drive to Guy Wolff's shop, he usually has some of my pots there for sale. 1249 Bantam Road, Bantam Connecticut. HGTV has me on their Handmade TH-cam channel! In all honesty, I'd rather be on TH-cam than on TV - TH-cam is free for everyone around the world to watch, cable is not.
@@rajivsurendra Thank you for responding. I am less than 2 hours away from Guy Wolf's location. I see a road trip in my future! I have not had cable in 25 years, I only watch a few youtube channels. I just want you to make lots of money so you can have a sweet home in the country!
I am going to try this using my grandmother’s brass Urli that I brought back from Kerala. Thank you for this inspiration just in time as we celebrate our new year, Vishu
Beautiful 😍
Gorgeous! ok so what 4 or 5 dozen roses??? Got to get to the Saturday Farmer's Market and buy ROSES!!! Love this, thank you!
Beautiful arrangement, thanks Rajiv!
I love your flowers 🌹 arrangements
