It always amazed me that either: 1. They just have a giant Leeds stamp for some reason. 2. London was destroyed in a Nuclear explosion, and someone took the time to make a giant Leeds stamp.
Stamps aren't exactly hard to make, and having a stamp for each location makes everything go much smoother so whoever's checking paperwork can just look at the giant stamped words and direct people properly. Saves way more time in the long run.
One of my favorites. We know Catherine Tate can kill at comedy, but this episode her range is amazing including the dramatic elements. And the Wilf scenes where he realizes the British are making "labor" camps like he fought against in WW2 is so heartbreaking.
Even more interesting the UK had labor camps for hundreds of years. Boer War, World War I and World War 2 all had UK labor camps. Even using the term concentration camps.
The thing I love most about this episode is the fact that, despite Donna having never met the Doctor, she didn’t need him for her moral compass, that existed before him when she was still in “Shouty Chav” mode. Really think about that, can you imagine Rose in...”Rose” being that selfless? No, that’s something she learnt travelling with the Doctor. It’s another testament to her fundamental strength as a character, and why these different layers to her cannot exist without the other.
I disagree about Rose, she was a good person from the start too, she didn't need to be taught to be selfless by the Doctor any more than Donna did. Even in "Rose" she risks her life to save the Doctor and the world. As ever, I don't know why people seem to have this need to make out that Rose is/was this bad person somehow.
I honestly don't think the Doctor would ever choose someone who was not a fundamentally good person as a companion. We see time and again how he deals with people who fall short in that regard, starting (in NuWho) with Adam - he demonstrates multiple times in "Dalek" how selfish he is and the Doctor only brings him along for one trip at Rose's insistence...where he again proves to be selfish and so he is promptly abandoned. Rose, on the other hand, demonstrates her selflessness in the very first episode multiple times, to the point where in that episode it's actually *the Doctor* who is the selfish one: starting with her concern first for her mother, then for Mickey (even as the Doctor admits he never once thought about what the Autons would do to him) and ending with her saving the Doctor's life through putting herself at risk. To reiterate, she risks her own life to save someone she barely knows. Is she also capable of occasionally being selfish? Well, at the end of the day she's still a 19 year old human with all the failings of character that come with that. *Of course* she's occasionally selfish. So is Martha. So is Donna. So is Jack. So is Mickey. So is Amy and Rory and Clara and Bill and plenty of Classic companions too. So is the Doctor. But at their core, the one thing every single one of them have in common is that they are good people with strong moral compasses. Travelling with the Doctor doesn't *give* them that moral compass or the selflessness that goes with it; they're invited to travel with him because of it. The Doctor merely improves and allows them opportunities to demonstrate what's always been there (both the good and the bad) and what they themselves possibly couldn't see given the limited nature of their normal lives.
You are fundamentally misunderstanding the characters if you think any of these companions would act that way. The big difference is that Donna was never meek toward the Doctor. She always called his dubious choices into question and loudly protested when she thought he was wrong. That's not to say they never questioned him, but they did generally follow his lead and rely on him much more.
I have to say that Murray Gold’s music is the best in this episode, especially when the alternate Donna jumps in front of the truck! I get chills every time.
This is my favourite episode. I love that they do an episode all about Donna and which also shows how special she is, when she doesn't believe it in herself. I think a lot of us can relate to that
I bloody loooove this episode!! but having you two react to it is so much better, because of the chemistry you guys have. and yes Deepa Donna Nobles mother has no redeeming qualities
The episode that I've been waiting for you two to react to has finally arrived. I'm so so glad I decided to watch you guys! You really bring a smile to my face whenever you upload a video! Also, fun fact: The Fortune Teller is played by the same actress that played Chantho in Utopia! Edit: I literally added the fun fact mere seconds before I heard you say it skskkskkss Brand new fun fact: The Time Beetle is actually a homage to a 3rd Doctor story from the 70s called "Planet of the Spiders", in which Sarah Jane Smith is possessed by a giant spider on her back that came from the planet Metabelis III.
Apparently the actress who played Sarah Jane had a phobia of spiders, and could barely stand to have the spider prop on her back. So naturally, the crew kept up coming up with excuses that meant she had to wear it between takes...
Absolutely loved this reaction. I was laughing my head off when Luke distracted Deepa during the opening credits. Deepa's one liners are now legendary with me (just as much as Luke's 'she doesn't know what's coming' looks to the camera'). Keep up the good work guys - you're fab x
I didn’t realize until the second time that I watched season 4 all the way through that the Roman psychic guy in Fires of Pompeii had told Donna that there was something on her back. He had predicted this episode.
You two laughing at America turning fat 😂 Never kinda realised how heavy this episode is, which I think is testament to Catherine and Billie for keeping it from getting too dark. Bernard Cribbins is on top form as well and I love listening to the episode dvd commentary he did with Catherine and Jacqueline who plays Sylvia on this episode. It’s brilliant! The nostalgia 😭
This is a very skilfully writen episode, and everyone acted really good. 1:15 How do you pronounce that...? ;) 4:41 Who is that blonde woman, Deepa...? ;) 5:52 That close-up. :) 6:47 I guess that would have been too bad even for this episode. 7:22 So what is the inside joke about Leeds? 11:05 R.I.P. Donna... :( 12:08 Chan-Yeah you go-tho. 13:22 She should have said what 0:54 Luke said. 14:34 The close-up to Deepa evil laugh :D
During the Runaway Bride scenes. Ken Livingstone was name-dropped. It is true that Ken was London Mayor during The Runaway Bride and when Turn Left was being filmed. However, by the time of this episode's airing, Ken Livingstone had already been unseated by his Conservative opponent. The name of the Tory victor? Boris Johnson
Rose my baby girl. Or Doctor Rose in this ep. She is very doctor in this ep. She had to be in order to help Donna. It makes me so sad that the doctor would have died after losing rose because he had no one to stop him.
The Bants are strong with this one... Turn left is the turning point - when I watch reactions, this is the episode I tend to start at. The TARDIS suddenly takes off! I never had time for Catherine Tate, but Doctor Who made me fall in love with her.
omg this episode this phycologiocally damageing episdoe to my 5 year old mind edit: if i cryed when sarah jane died in this episode how do you think i reacted when she died irl
Another great review from you two. I really love you. And i wish you would one day review my favorite mini series. I read the book almost 30 years ago and loved it. Still got it sitting on my bookshelf. And for maybe the first time ever I have to say. The adaptation is better than the book. The Series is Good Omens with David Tennant (yes THAT Tennant) and Michael Sheen PS: For some reason I were sure you already had reviewed it. but since I can't find it on your video list. It must have been something I dreamed up 🤣
If you're worried spoilers, don't let Deepa see the comments section. That's the safest and simplest way of avoiding spoilers. And she doesn't desperately need to see the comments section, does she? Luke, if you really do want her to read the comments then you look through the comments first and show her or send her the ones you know are safe to read.
Wait. Was the fortune teller the chan-do alien from the end of the universe? The Master's assistant when he had locked away his timelord-ness in the watch? Edit: And then Lukey confirms it minutes later.
Distracting Deepa when the credits came up... very smooth.
Trev L Honestly, that was amazing. Keeping the spoiler from her!
Luke also did that for Daleks In Manhattan 👌

@@Dularr yup and winston Churchill helped establish them 🤢
ask her a question and make her miss out the title "and Billie Piper" - fun! :)

YES! And that version of The Doctor’s Theme that is littered throughout is a masterpiece.
You thought Midnight was stressful, then Turn Left was more stressful. Well, next week...it’s definitely a calmer ride. 😂😂😂😂
Stephen
yes totally, I would describe the next two episodes almost as boring😉
PPfilmemacher cheers sweetie, definitely boring, definitely two of the worst episodes of Doctor Who ever, no ambition, no cool storyline.
Stephen
exactly‼️
“Labour camps, that’s what they called them last time”
Oh my god Wilf was so good this episode
This is my favourite episode. I love that they do an episode all about Donna and which also shows how special she is, when she doesn't believe it in herself. I think a lot of us can relate to that
Its been commented alpt but the praise bears repeating, what a clever move distracting Deepa from seeing Billie's name in the title credits.
"leeds" "oh id be so sad" so would I Deepa, so would i
The Vera Duckworth line is one of Donna's finest moments!
Lol, love how you both laughed at America being in crisis.
Reporter: "60 million dead"
Luke and Deepa: "hahahahaha"
Deepa laughing when luke said America turned into adipose lmao
Mad props on the distraction so much so that Deepa didn't even realize she was being distracted.
This just made my a million times better, thanks guys!
Also, very smooth there Luke, distracting Deepa from the credits lmao
(S4E1 'Partners in Crime')
Deepa "The Doctor's going to die"
Luke "That's a bold prediction..."
I bloody loooove this episode!! but having you two react to it is so much better, because of the chemistry you guys have.

Luke you clever lad! That distraction was GREAT!
Chan, I don't trust that fortune teller. Deepa right with her feelings, tho.
Absolutely loved this reaction. I was laughing my head off when Luke distracted Deepa during the opening credits. Deepa's one liners are now legendary with me (just as much as Luke's 'she doesn't know what's coming' looks to the camera').
Keep up the good work guys - you're fab x
OMG BOTH 5s
IVE NEVER BEEN SO PROUD IN MY LIFE
Oh damn, Wilf is so preciouuuus! That alternate timeline scenario gets me every damn time! This has to be one of my absolute favourite episodes!
As the Master once said in Classic Who, "A universe without the Doctor scarcely bears thinking about."
My favourite episode of new who... ❤️ Next week is gonna be amazing can't wait
Always a bright spot on a Sunday evening! 😎
I've been waiting for this my whole life! Well, not that long but you get the point! It's happening!
I get goosebumps at the mention of bad wolf in this episode. Brilliant
I didn’t realize until the second time that I watched season 4 all the way through that the Roman psychic guy in Fires of Pompeii had told Donna that there was something on her back. He had predicted this episode.
Deepa, you are going to love the next two episodes.
That distraction during the credits though! 👏👏
I love you two. No one says, "Oh my Gawwwwwwd!" Quite like you Deepa! :-)
You two laughing at America turning fat 😂 Never kinda realised how heavy this episode is, which I think is testament to Catherine and Billie for keeping it from getting too dark. 1:28 the creature from midnight is back 😱
This is a very skilfully writen episode, and everyone acted really good.

Boris Johnson
Boris? Johnson?
That's a stupid name. Might as well be "Igor Bellend".
Paul Kennedy or Lord and saviour ***Emperor Boris Johnson***
One of my favourite episodes
Luke u devil 👿 I saw wat u did their u got deepa to turn away so she does not see Billie piper name lol 😂
Donna had that bug on her back she turned left she didn't meet the Doctor
She didn't tell the doctor to stop drowning the spider Queen's children
Bad Wolf = The Apocalypse. Yup. That's pretty much it.
Rose my baby girl. Or Doctor Rose in this ep. She is very doctor in this ep. She had to be in order to help Donna.
It makes me so sad that the doctor would have died after losing rose because he had no one to stop him.
Deepa has the best reactions perhaps of all time.
Rose and the Doctor being reunited maybe? When The Darkness comes, I believe in a thing called love.
A man with great hair, some really great hair.
The Bants are strong with this one...
Turn left is the turning point - when I watch reactions, this is the episode I tend to start at. The TARDIS suddenly takes off! I never had time for Catherine Tate, but Doctor Who made me fall in love with her.
Bad Wolf
omg this episode this phycologiocally damageing episdoe to my 5 year old mind
edit: if i cryed when sarah jane died in this episode how do you think i reacted when she died irl

Bad wolf is back

Luke, if you really do want her to read the comments then you look through the comments first and show her or send her the ones you know are safe to read.
will you ever react to the sarah jane adventures?
The 10 dislikes are those from Leeds
3:38 inspired by Blind Wave's Aaron there haha
Wait. Was the fortune teller the chan-do alien from the end of the universe? The Master's assistant when he had locked away his timelord-ness in the watch?
Edit: And then Lukey confirms it minutes later.
Finally.
All that hate for Leeds lol
Omg when u catch up on doctor who u should react to the sarah jane adventures as like a sub series
no love for leeds 😔
