This episode was wild! I'm not a book reader myself and I also like being surprised.Poor LJG for getting Rogered in this episode though :(, I wish Jamie had the full story before jumping to conclusions as he does. I am also disappointed we didn't see Alexander Hamilton there by Washington's side- he would have been utterly pissed that some random called Jamie Fraser was made a general before him lolol! Interesting mention of hitting 'peaks' this week, with Sam (Jamie) reaching Everest Base Camp earlier this week!

Highlight of my week too! Loving your reactions!
So, I watched the first 5 seasons before reading the books. Yes, the twists and he cliff-hangers in this show are amazing! There are still moments that surprise me but nearly not as many. I do enjoy seeing what they change and how they handle the difficult-to-adapt stuff. But what I love about having read the books is better understanding the motivations of the characters in each scene. These actors are fantastic at incorporating the tiny details from the source material... sometimes they're subtle but add so much. There were a few moments in S1-5 that I thought 'that's a strange inflection' or 'that's a odd look' and then reading that character's inner dialogue (or the few lines of preceding dialogue that had been cut), it made so much sense. So, I guess what I'm saying is... definitely read the books after you finishing watching the series!... then, go back a rewatch! 😄

I love this version of Lord John. He has always been so correct and prudent, but today we saw a half-crazy, reckless and escapist Lord John. Also I agree with yoy, William is a good boy, just let's remember that 1. he is still half a teenager 2. He has just found out that his father is a Scottish traitor to the crown and 3. The woman he was in love with got engaged to his new cousin. This combined with his father's Scottish genes and his mother's capricious genes: well, what could go wrong? 🤣😅

Yeah... I think William is maybe 18 or 19... still very much a boy, and his whole world just collapsed. I think it distorted his identity and what he thinks of himself. In his mind everyone that loves him (his father and mother, well uncle and aunt) liked to him his whole life.

This episode was so close to the books! Fantastic! Practically every major line was from the books. I loved the Title Card showing the Apple tree in the Garden of Eden with the "apple not falling far from the tree" (Jamie & William-like father like son). Loved snarky Lord John, too! He was great! More like the Lord John in the books. William took the knowledge of his parentage pretty close to how Bree took the knowledge of her parentage. Both Frasers to the core. I know what's going to happen since I've read the books countless times, but it's really great to see the pages come to life! And since the books are so huge & the show doesn't have a lot of episodes or time, there are some storylines cut out, but they do a wonderful job of seaming it together in the time they've got to work with. If they added anything else into this episode (like Bree or Roger), it wouldn't have been as good. Most of the events in this episode were too important and needed to be able to breathe. They couldn't have crammed another thing in. Thanks for your reaction & review! Loved your commentary.

It’s a lot, but so worth it, as iv rewatched outlander many times, its time to rewatch it in another way and the books is a great way to do that!

The books are massive, but I must say, as someone who typically doesn't read for the pleasure of reading; the Outlander series was addictive and I became obsessed. I devoured the books in just a few short months. Something I don't think will ever happen with another book series. That is, at least, for me. You will not be disappointed with the books. There is so much more in the books that is either left out or dusted over on the Starz series. Many of the secondary characters have great stories too that are not covered. The slaves at River Run have a great storyline that is never addressed in the TV series. You will be pleasantly surprised.

  • @bessonnet

The books are so rich abd full of more actions, details that could not be put on screen. Few differences on the story too.
Every insignificant detail is important because it will re appear in time

I think this episode contained the end of Echo in the Bone (Book 7) and the beginning of Written in my Own Hearts Blood (Book 8), so it will take you awhile to get there, since the books are massive and where you said you were in Book 1. I am a slow reader, so it took me about 2 months to read each of the books in the main series. I started reading the books after season 3, I found the series the summer before season 3 premiered.

Paoli is a sight in Pennsylvania, the event described actually happened( although the casualty numbers differ).Keep reading - on the how we are currently covering Book 8 & I loved the entire Roger storyline. It even inspired a novelette- A Leaf On the Wind of All Hallows. It would be a good read after this season is finished to learn the entire story of Roger's dad & it spoils nothing in the Outlander book Universe.

I'm really glad to hear that you are reading the books because they're just so much _more_ than the TV series though the recent seasons are much more true to the books than the first couple. I am eternally grateful to Ron Moore for producing this show _but_ the best thing he did for it was to step away from directly producing because he felt he needed to put his stamp on the story.

    • @jbeard2732
      @jbeard2732 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Yes, I too am glad Ron stepped back. He made the show all about Claire to Jamie's expense. I love book Claire but didn't like show Claire very much until S5 when Matt Roberts completely took over as show runner. He, more than Ron, understands this is not Claire's story. Diana Gabaldon has said this is Jamie's story told by Claire.

    • @jbeard2732

@@jacobitegamesalso, Jamie and John's relationship was built on the fact that John's feelings for him were kept to himself. When John said what he said not only did it bring flooding memories of Black Jack but he kicked that understanding right out from under him. I loved John's inner thoughts in the book but understand it would have been a bit much to have them since they've been having Roger's.

Love your reactions. My thoughts on this episode: I was expecting this episode to be less than the last, but I wasn't expecting to be let down like this.
I was so looking forward to seeing J see red as LJG reminds him of BJR with "we were both f u" - like he saw red when he first met Roger. Underwhelming.
We needed the scene with LJG and DH "She's not my wife" BEFORE W and I meet. We have known for a week that J is alive and with all the different storylines we have forgotten Ian doesn't know. That greef is what takes Ian from being upset when W talks ill of his uncle to Ian exploding when W talks ill of the dead.
William is what saved this episode, his acting was 🎯. Love Arabella/Jane, with such good an actor I hope and think they will keep her storyline in. I'm not sold on her insisting on doingvher honour, maybe someone else does and can shed some light on it.

Attention to detail!!!! You brought some good things up that I didn’t even think about, Ian didn’t know Jamie was still alive until that moment Jamie rode up in his horse. That changes the whole moment when Ian was shocked then smiled while arrested.
William really showed up this episode.

I think i have an unpopular opinion.... I'm a lil pissed at Jamie. I feel like he did John dirty. I understand Jamie's upset (rightfully so) & i understand he wants to get back to Claire asap but... He leaves John in enemy hands , takes off, & doesn't seem to be planning on rescuing him. Wtf!!! John has come through for Jamie countless times & now he needs Jamie to help him. Where's Jamie?...doing Claire on his dinning room table! So ya, I'm a lil irritated at Jamie.
