  • Have you ever needed to flare some tubing for a project? I have had to do so for car/truck brake projects, power steering cooler additions and now for air conditioning. I recently added a mini-split a/c heat pump to the new shop office. The kit was complete, but it also included 16' of 1/4" and 3/8" refrigerant tubing. I only needed about 8' and did not want the additional tubing coiled up looking like an after thought. I chose to install the unit myself to save money and that meant NOT hiring an a/c professional or electrician to help out. So, that meant I needed to install it myself. You can get professional results yourself. Armed with some quality tools and a some education, this is very doable for the DIYer. In general, it is not hard to do, but, there are some tricks to getting those professional results.

I think I prefer the Kobalt/ Rigid style over the turret style for single flares. The turret style is super fast for double flares but you don't need a vice for these.

Go online, I got mine at Lowes. There are other brand names that are the same style as well.
