Some people think only migrants will be affected by that law. If companies move out, those Kannadigas who are already employed will lose their jobs. So, Kannadigas who already have jobs should also be concerned about this new law.
Yes, migrants will also lose their jobs but a person who travelled from Place A to Place B for a job wouldn’t mind moving to Place C for the same reason. If companies relocate, so will the migrants.

Palki sharma is spot on as always. I'm a kannadiga myself, I love my language and culture, but I strongly feel if local development has to happen, its by improving quality of education in government schools whether it is Kannada or English medium, train them to be a better and well equipped, rather than such bills. Hopefully government makes a sensible decision.

The central government which should act neutral for all people has preferred and favoured Hindi and Hindi speakers in all possible manner and even in government jobs .
They are several Hindi people and officers work in non Hindi states without learning local language but can non Hindi speaker do that in other state - No .

UP already has it, UP has noida, which never drowns in rains, which never has water shortage, which doesn't have crazy traffic like bangalore.
Karnataka has borders with sea, trade is easier for them. In north it's not the same. Only parts of different states which are developing are those connected to or nearby delhi. Noida, Gurugram, chandigarh, are examples.
Bangalore, Mumbai, chennai, all became hubs because of easy connection with the sea. Development started around here.
Tho i agree up bihar ppl don't question their govt enough, but south didn't develop coz they questioned the govt. Indians are largely the same, different ppl are blind in different cases.

Local quota is a must. Because when an other state person becomes manager, he brings his people from his state, in the interview he selects only other state people who are not at all skilled. Other state manager will never consider local priorities, whether it is festivals or language or people. These other state managers are threat to karnataka. If i become CM i will fix quotas for locals.

True. Once this is implemented some will start all jobs are being given to GM kannadigas we need internal quotas for ST- Kannadigas, SC - Kannadigas, OBC -Kannadigas etc.
But situation in karnataka is different , in bangalore 50% of people from tamilnadu, other state 30% , only 20% of local people getting jobs , it is not because of lack of local peoples doesnt have skills , it is because of discrimination of people, they choosing they own language people and avoiding locals

Reservation no longer helps anyone, it once did way back before 90's when only few groups had access to education. Nowadays there are lot of people from different walks of life who are well educated.
This bill has to be passed. Kannadigas has to be given priority in the state in terms of employment. People from elsewhere are utilising the water, electricity, food from the state they should be give priority in terms of employment to the people of the state. Big tech companies come to bangalore because of the weather, diversity of people, talent, food and culture. But if priority is not given to Kannadigas and locals then the states culture is lost invariably which in turn brings colonisation of north Indian and other zones.
Firstly see for which grade of employment the bill is passed. It's for C & D grade. And you speak of developing skill, aren't not companies training and bring out the skill in an individual. In terms of employment kannadigas should be given preference to maintain culture and heritage of the state.
If the migrants cared about learning the local language and respect the local culture, this bill wouldn't have found place
If the locals stopped having such big sticks up their behinds .....why do states in the north have no problem with other people from other states speaking different languages.

Northern and central Indians learn English and we use it to communicate as it is a common lang in most of the cases especially in big cities like Bengaluru not everyone in North speaks Hindi either.

Karnataka is not the first state to raise the issue, nor will it be the last. Sooner or later every state will feel the pinch of migrants and resulting demographic change affecting local culture. IMHO, every state must enact law & enter into mutual agreements with other states and put in place work permits, like they do in some foreign countries.

Living in blr since the last year. Not a local. Has he thought about what to do with people who already have a job and might lose that because of his "masterstroke"? If this comes into being, in the long run, nothing will happen to India, Karnataka just would not be there in the top states. In the short run, it would be bad for the already terrible job market that we have (ask any graduate from 2024, they'll tell). It is the govt. duty to train citizens upto expectations, not some private company.

I am a Maharashtrian and was working in Mumbai for one company for 10 years and the upper management was managed by South Indians. They laid off the people due to restructuring of the company as per the instructions by its parent company. Most of the people who were laid off are Maharashtrians. We welcomed people from other states and now they are throwing us out.
Problem is private companies do not always hire talent....try getting selected when recruiter is from Bihar Andhra or Kerala....your language becomes your qualification.

No doubts on non availability of locally qualified candidates and this bill doesn't make much sense but there is one issue which people don't talk about which is when we have one person from WB or Gujarat for example he/she try to find someone from the same state for thr team even though other qualified candidates are available. Every MNC has this problem and we are not talking about this.

Palki was referring to 2011 census, latest data shows 28% of Kannadigas living in Bangalore. The demographic problems are real, this bill must be passed however the percentages can be lowered.
These 'Kannadigas' have no qualms accepting jobs from MNCs who displaced Americans so that those jobs could be offshored to Bangalore for cheap. If the US started doing this there would be no jobs left, for kannadigas or anyone else. And then other states wouldn't hire 'Kannadigas' for anything either.
Why not vote for politicians based on merit, rather than based on caste? Running a sophisticated economy like the one in Bangalore is clearly way above the pay grade of the current crop of politicians.
These kannadiga don't realize that one day same laws will be used to reserve 100% seats in their state for great kannadiga adivasi and daIets .

As an outsider, I started company and gave jobs to many Kannadigas; Attempting to start a new company. Now I am worried if I should start again in the state or not! Govt jobs are already with quotas, why don't we increase govt jobs; let the private jobs be a competitive market

Hello Palki Ma'am, I have been following ur news and the way of ur journalism for a quite sometime now and I really appreciate the way of u presenting the facts in an un-biased way. But irrespective of this bill getting approved or rejected, its quite evident and clear that it's not an easy thing for MNC's to just leave Karnataka. Same happened some few years back when there was Floods in the heart of IT Hub Bengaluru and everyone expected IT companies would leave based on Twitter trends which lasted hardly a week and nothing changed!!!
The problem is floods are short termed but this effect will effect thier business
The main problem is with the people's mindset. They have built a mindset that They can go on doing any BS based on language, culture and all and the rest of the country will sit and watch.
Dictating a state specific reservation upto 50-75 percent that too in private sector ( THE AUDACITY!!!) to undermine constitutional rights and the rights of the business firms to hire the best workforce for themselves
The floods you mentioned are outside of company, But the QUOTA flood will trigger and impact inside company wash away the company growth to the downward roots
Bengaluru is not a major IT expoter anymore, others locations are catching up. Mostly BFSI sector and other legacy companies are continuing to operate. It's loosing It's sheen due to higher cost of living 😮

The Support to Northern states is mainly in the form of infrastructure investment and flood relief. No state in India is completely capable of independence. If northern migrants leave southern states, the industries there will be in big trouble( and not just unskilled labourers, many IT professionals, doctors, industrialists in bangalore and Mumbai are from the North.)
Karnataka has more good engineering and medical collages compared to other states . So, there is no scarcity of availability of resources in Karnataka . In some Bangalore companies there is more group politics by other state migrants . Why select only their state candidates . But kannadigas don't do that ...
The problem also could be that families are being forced to live separately because people have to move for work. Hiring local and training them will reap much better benefits as employees will be happier.
Better yet make it mandatory to work from home or hybrid. It’ll reduce traffic as well. If you live in Bengaluru you’d realize how ridiculous the traffic congestion has gotten here. 50% of the population being migrants is shocking !
No educated employee is that difficult to work with. This notion of getting the best employee is extremely prejudicial. It’s unhealthy in the long run. Work can be done by an employee who has good work ethic and capacity. Not every employee needs to be the very best to get the job done. That’s just extreme thinking.
