Sorry the video's a bit late! I accidentally scheduled the video for Saturday instead of Friday. All good now :) Also, just a reminder videos will be Fridays only until mid August because I'm out of town and had to make them in advance. Livestreams are also suspended, but I'm going to try to get in an art stream and a couple gaming streams in July. It all depends on what I'm doing and how much free time I have, so keep an eye on Twitter for updates! @baylee_jae
1.) The "lead" itself is waxy, so it glides smoothly on the paper. 2.) It's not reflective like graphite pencils. 3.) To separate the elements on the paper. Example: characters vs background (Lines CAN get confusing) 4.) To make the sketch clean up EASIER. 5.) Some colors will not pick up in a scanner. 6.) I just like the way it looks. (I didn't list the reasons so that you the viewer didn't have to watch the video. I really did it for me when my ADHD is in 4th gear.)
you dont have to sketch that lightly to get rid of the blue when scanning you just have to adjust the expose and it'll be gone. ( someone who makes comics and draws very hard)
Yup, Jake Parker told me to adjust exposure down to 50% using a pencil but should work for red-blue etc. This for cardstock printing but maybe regular printing paper might work too.
As far as I know the main reason comes from the animation sector. You did mentioned it in your video a little bit. When the xerox copiers came available they wanted to use in in animation to speed up the developing of the animation. To do this they used xerox copiers to transfer the "sketched" image to a cell and so only had to paint the colors on to the cell. Before that there were people that traced the lines of the sketch to a cell, which was very time consuming. Now the scanners were made to not pick up blue/red colors. So they were used to rough sketch the drawing and then the animator would use a normal pencil to draw the final image. (After that there might also be a clean up stage in which someone would clean up the drawing) I Believe Disney was the first to use this technique. If you look at the earlier animation movies from Disney you will see very clean and even colored lines. For example in Snow White. When they switched to xerox copiers the final animation has black outlines and they are much rougher. Part of this was due to the fact that the xerox copiers were not that good back then and could only reproduce in black. An example of these movies is 101 Dalmatians. These days with computers the need of using specific colors like red or blue is actually not needed anymore. If you want to you could also filter out other colors, if that is the reason why you would want to use them. Of course using an other color to sketch with can have it's benefits, but I think the main reason why we are still using these colors is just due the long history and people got used to them.
I know there's benefits in using blue or red but i don't have strong reasons lol, i just prefer to sketch with colored pencil rather than graphite. less messy and for some reason it just make me happier than random grey lol :3 I don't stick to red or blue, i tried indigo, purple, brown, pink. It aslo add color to my sketchbook, it's just not plain grey all the time. I even prefer the dark grey in colored pencil over the graphite one. I still like graphite sometimes, it's just very different and it's up to everyone to choose what they love :)
i was like omg thid gurl is so smart she is describing it amazingly, lets se her channel, reads sakuems omg 😂😂 didn't even realize it was you! btw i like your new profile picture 💓
Since I usually do digital painting, my choice for drafting is blue, orange, green and purple. Because these 4 are easy to tell from each other, so that I can tell the different layers easily. If I need more than 4 layers of drafting, which never happened before, I would set some of the layers to lower opacity.
I bought a red lead for my mechanical pencil recently and I LOVE it, never really given it any thought as to why I like it so i found this video super interesting :). A treat to watch!
Jassycakes unfortunately an art store is where I found mine ;(. Hidden in the section you get mechanical pencil refills. That's a real bummer, any way to order some online? Might be super costly but I've had such a good time using it i'd still recommend that option!
821Drifter128 I could always buy online, but taxes and shipping suck I could go to ben and franklins, but they may not have it, and its on the other side of where I live
I absolutely adore sketching with Prismacolor col erase for pretty much exactly some of the reasons you listed. They're smooth, don't smudge in my sketchbook like graphite does for me, and the color variation just looks nice.
They're also nice (at least for me) for progressing through a sketch. Like I'll do my first go through in red very loose and just trying to figure out what I'm doing them clean it up a bit by going over my lines that I want more permanent in the blue then do the final line work in graphite or ink or whatever, it helps a lot because the blue and the red make a dark purple where they overlap and I can see better how it's going to look, and I save paper by not tracing it like 8 times like I know some people do
I find that whenever I sketch in school, people who don't even draw seem to think they can tell me what I'm doing wrong or what I should do. I do take criticism and suggestions from people because a fresh pair of eyes helps, but when that person doesn't draw and/or doesn't understand my style fully, it just annoys me so much when they try to tell me what I'm doing wrong. Does anyone else get this?
I’ve been at it for 30 or so years and that never changes unfortunately. If you haven’t started to sell your work yet just prepare yourself for that one. So many people who don’t do anything artistic like to tell you how much it should cost instead of paying it or just moving on. They see a print or picture of some kind at Walmart and price your unique work based on that. It’s VERY frustrating. I customize shoes too and that’s a lot of hard work and the magical number people come up with usually $20 and I still can’t wrap my mind around that. It’s been two years since you posted this and I hope you’re still going strong. Keep at it always and don’t get discouraged or settle for less than the work is worth
Regarding non-photo blue, we used to do that, but nowadays its not as important which color you use to sketch, as we use computers instead of photo-copiers. So you can just ink it and then scan it into photoshop (or another editor), select the black color, invert the selection and delete anything that isn't black. Or, conversely you could select the specific color (whatever color you sketched in) and delete only that color. Computers pretty much eliminated need for non-photo blue. But its good that you included that in the list! :D
I'm super weird but I hate lining my sketches in ink because I just like the way a sketch looks all rough.. I also think that when I color my sketches it ruins it... so I just stay away from that. I guess sketching is my thing. I don't know how you do it Baylee, keep it up!!
I also use red and blue from time to time. One of the main reasons I do this is that it keeps me interested in times when my enthusiasm is failing. If I am getting tired of my artwork I do things like using a blue pencil. It is not as drastic as changing the medium - it is still dry media, similar application - but it is sometimes enough to give me a spark. Before I know it I have found a reason to keep on drawing!
One of my professors did a lot of what they call "Blue Sketches" at Disney for Aladdin. They did sketches with camera layout in various colors depending on how much movement of the camera there was and characters, etc etc.
my sketch journal is full of red and blue ink, and yeah it's just really pretty to see in contrast with some of my black ink lines. i love drawing and colouring in only red and blue, it just makes me happy
I sketch with orange lead (since it's mt favorite colour) and I find it's easier to fineline with it since the graphite is a lot more similar to the ink pens I use. But what I noticed is that the coloured pencil tends to be harder to erase and it stains my eraser. Either way, coloured pencil is fun to sketch with
Wow those are some really cool and interesting reasons why! I began to wonder why some artists did when I see them draw. I sketched for a with different colors than graphite and it was helpful for to use to start with shapes and outlining what I will draw. I learned the hard way that I won't even ever draw in yellow again. Thanks for doing this video Baylee!
thanks a lot for making this video! I was thinking about this a few days ago and I couldn't think if some proper reasons why people sketch in colored pencils. And do you have to use a particular kind of colored pencils?
I use red and blue to sketch construction lines even if I’m drawing digitally, like you said it helps visually separate different elements of the piece
Anyone know what eraser to use when drawing or sketching with the red or blue pencils? And if you sketch with the non photo blue pencil and outline it with any pencil or inking pen, then put it in a printer/copier will it really come out without the blue or do you have to set some type of settings for it?
Kawaii Cherry there is a coloured pencil called col-erase! It's a coloured pencil that nicely erases, and you can probably get them at most art stores. (They're like a normal pencil, but coloured, because they have an eraser)
yeah, i think the point of using two pencils in traditional animation is because when you stack up multiple sketches, and have really close movement of action and in-betweens really close together, it helps to see the motion better. limbs and parts dont get lost when you overlap things and pass it down the line. i use photo blue because you can scan it in and the computer can lock onto anything that color and get rid of it after i go over it. and you can selectively edit better.
Great video! I love to use colored pencils before graphite in sketches so I can be loose and free and experiment with layout/forms/etc. Once I've got the major elements down I can do it with pencil and finalize the sketch before going to scanning or inking :)
I have been wondering about the why for a while as I see more and more people use colours for sketching. I only figured out the part of it looks nice 😁. Hearing the other reasons make want to try it myself. Absolutely love your sketch! I see the colouring video is also available, so going to watch that. Thanks for this fun video. Learned quite some new things 😊
unusual girl Use a plastic storage container and just play a bright youtube video on your phone, placing it in the box. Turn all your lights off and ART AWAY
Ok, so major miss here. Its not that scanners need to be set up not to pick them up (though some can) its about dropping that color from the spectrum of the image in editing. You can easily do it in Photoshop, dropping all the blue/red lines and leaving only black and white lines and background. Then you have perfectly clean line art to work with digitally. At least that's the technique we learned in school.
I like sketching in colour because you can blend better later. For example I will sketch leaves in green pencil then colour them in with green watercolours or copics. You can almost create a lineless look this way or just have very subtle lines.
+Marta Domínguez García I'm not that familiar with all the websites that ship internationally, but I know Blick does. I buy my Col-Erase pencils at local art stores.
A lot of dollar stores carry cheaper versions in the school supplies section. They're not special tools or anything, and are in fact quite common in banking and record keeping, so they're usually stocked where other pens and pencils are. Maybe check your local dollar store? I use the cheap option since it's for sketching and they work just fine.
I thought I'd never be able to find prismscolor or if I did I'd be too expensive for me -.- BUT THEN I saw diss vid I saw the pencil and I threw everything in the air and ran over to my desk realizing I already had some and I had prismacolor pencils and I was just standing in the middle of my room in shock
Back in Architecture classes and offices that still uses drafting by hand, we use red or blue leads for the guidelines mainly because they don't appear in scans and prints. But now I use them just because I like the effect. ;)
I'm left handed, so I sometimes have this issue when I use ink or graphite, but after a while you'll figure out how to "glide 'n guide" your hand. Since most good colored pencils are wax based you'll not have an issue. I recommend Prisma Scholar sets to start out, and then maybe moving "up" the brand rank for more expensive/higher quality. I _love_ Prisma ~ it's been nearly 20 years and I still use 'em.
You know what I'm jealous of? When artists are drawing traditionally and when they're doing their line art, they somehow can do it flawlessly. HOW. WHAT, EVEN. And then when I attempt to do it, my hand is shaking, I mess up, I jUST CANNOT DO IT
I've actually taken a comic class and I just wanted to inform you that there is an easier way to scan images when using blue or red. You were really close to it, but the technique I was taught is you scan the red sketched imaged that has been inked over with your final decisions. You then can take that sketch and scan it, then take the red/inked scan to photoshop or some editing program and then have the color filters take out all of that one color. So if you use red, have the red color removed, at this point you'll only be left with a black and white photo of your sketch without having any of the red residual, even if you are heavy of hand. Try it :D
I like watching you draw and I've seen some of your other drawing videos. Your process of blocking-in and fixing perspective is so interesting! Thanks for sharing! And yes, I've seen the finished picture - it is really gorgeous!
I only sketch in color when doing digital art because it looks a lot nicer and its better for distinguishing between the sketch and lineart if you have a lighter/bright color for the sketch. I use a bright pink for my sketching. Traditionally I will just use graphite
I really like using colour pencils in my sketchbook, because those little splashes of colour make me smile. I just wish they were as easy to erase as regular pencils.
The reason for why to use blue pencil was that when making a manga, if you trace the blue sketch and then scan the manga page with the options black and white, the scan will come out with only the final art lines and no blue sketch on it. If you want to make a manga, this is a good tip to do it =)
I use red and blue lead in my mechanical pencils but I have a heavy hand when I try to sketch. I mainly picked up the lead to use so I could scan my work when I was done. But even if I erase the red and blue lines after outlining, it still shows up. I've tried being light handed when sketching but it doesn't work. But I've really come to like using the red and blue lead, especially when drawing couples. Before, when I used regular lead, I would try draw a couple hugging, but I'd get confused on where my were supposed to be and would end up with wonky looking drawings. Anyway, I've thought about using different colored leads, just to try it out and see how I like them but the red and blue are my favorites right now. :)
Image software like Photoshop can also separate an image into multiple (red/green/blue) color channels. So if you use a red pencil on white paper, the red pencil marks will be really faint in the red channel (because red and white have 100% red in them), even if you didn't draw it lightly (assuming it's incredibly red and not dark) and any normal ink and graphite will show up normal in that color channel. Take the single channel, turn it into its own grey scale image, BAM, takes a majority of the work out of cleaning a traced line drawing.
Even if you draw heavily and the scanner picks up the sketch, there are a lot of different ways in Photoshop you can select a specific color (such as the red or blue) and get rid of it without interfering with the black ink lines.
Scanner settings adjust things with post-processing software. They are fine for bulk work, but if you are archiving anything you love, my advice is to scan as-is and edit out the color with Photoshop or Gimp.
something ive also found is that graphite smears in sketchbooks from the pages rubbing together, but the colored pencils (like prismacolor col-erase) dont. :)
Several years ago we had a drawing done at Disney World by one of the few remaining paper animators. I was surprised that they started their sketch in red and blue pencil!
Baylee is ALWAYS in my recommended vids, so I click on it (more than half the time) and I am constantly being blown away wether it be from her super fun personality or her amazing content, or just her art! And.. I can never draw as well as her. Is that just a me problem? Love you Baylee :)
I am glad you made this video because James The Box Office Artist TH-cam channel uses blue pencil a lot to sketch out in drawings. This makes sense. By the way James the Box Office Artist is why I discovered and subscribed to your channel. James recomended your channel during one of his Star Wars live streams.
Sketching in blue is like a blue print. You can rough sketch your base drawing (guidelines and all that) and then use a graphite pencil to start adding features and details. For me, it makes it much easier to see mistakes when drawing in blue, and instead of erasing like crazy I just simply know what I need to fix when I go over it with graphite. I do my base in blue, then go over everything in graphite and add what I need to add and fix what I need to fix, then I do my final inking.
for me personally, I use color erase pencils because it brings the picture together and its less grey toned. Since I don't ink in my drawings before going in with my copics it really blends well with the markers, unlike graphite.
An alternative for coli-erase pencils in case u can't find them: Crayola erasable colored pencils. It's waxy and doesn't erase all of it but does lighten it up by a lot. It also has many colors to choose from! :P
I used what I had, sketched a Christmas Tree in red and blue ink oho ink on cartridge paper. People thought it was a photo, having done a minimal amount of clean up in photo shop. I don't know a lot about the theory of colour and tonality/Shadow, but I think the eye makes sense of what it sees. A friend sketched me in felt tip different colours and introduced me to Gaugin at school. Using purple as shadows. A very inconsistent artist. But you can kind of sketch gesture and 3D shape combined with the mid ranges of contrasting tone. Though that's possibly just a naïve bunk idea.
I like sketching in oil pastels because it's smooth fluid and easy and looks so solid and vibrant straight away. But I don't take things very seriously and do a bit at a time. I perversely enjoy doing "proper" art practice with children's art supplies. I'm just doing it for fun.
When I draw digitally, I usually sketch in whatever will be the dominant color in the picture later on. If there's two characters in the drawing, I sketch them in different colors to make them easier to tell apart.
I do mostly digital art but I sketch in different colors, and my friends call it "rainbow barf" because I use every color to sketch. My reason is because I like to know what's where, especially with digital art the lines merge together to easily, but different colors don't merge
I tryed it and it blew my mind. Its so mutch better than sketching whit a graphite pencil. I like drawing in colour now. Thank you so mutch for this video. It help me alot. Take care bye😁👍🏼👋🏼
Another plus to drawing in blue (possibly other colors idk) is that it won't show through watercolors as much. I do all my watercolors in blue because then you don't have to erase as much to hide the lines beneath the paint.

drawing in colour will make it much easier to colour in too, you always get gross grey lines if you draw in pencil
Emma i can tell ur not from america
ThunderStar Mlp how can you tell?
"Grey" is not the spelling in America, it's "gray" here. "Grey" is used in the U.K. usually, I don't know where else it is used.
aemakoru My middle name is spelled Grei just with an "I"
I always write Grey lol I live in America
you dont have to sketch that lightly to get rid of the blue when scanning you just have to adjust the expose and it'll be gone. ( someone who makes comics and draws very hard)

H.C.Brown don't they also have a special color that just goes away no matter what?

Yup, Jake Parker told me to adjust exposure down to 50% using a pencil but should work for red-blue etc. This for cardstock printing but maybe regular printing paper might work too.
I sketch in colour because it doesn't smudge as easily

i never said graphite wasn't a good choice ^^

I kept trying to blow away that piece of stray eraser shaving at the top! I looked quite silly blowing at my computer screen.
Do you just use a red colored pencil or is a specific type of pencil meant for this purpose?
+Mary S It's made specifically for sketching, but you can use any coloured pencil.
Baylee Jae Okay, thank you!

Daniel Esen J. Oliviėr i use crazy art erasable and they are amazing, and cheap
(Also depends on paper
they are not amazing what fucked up country do you live in
I think they have more wax in them than graphite pencils, so they would be more grippy and sticky

I hate pink
+XxChubbyZombiexX I used to hate pink too, but now I don't mind it. I still don't love hot pink but pastel pink is quite nice 😊
Wow! Makes me wanna start sketching with different color leads!
I just like using normal pencils so I can easily erase the lines once I've inked (I use fineliner) them.
Daptor Exactly the same here! I do traditional art 9/10 times, without lightbox and stuffz, just everything on the same piece of paper.
my sketch journal is full of red and blue ink, and yeah it's just really pretty to see in contrast with some of my black ink lines. i love drawing and colouring in only red and blue, it just makes me happy
I didn't even tell I was early until I read the comments

Midge Teekuchen im 7 months early :3

Same though
Midge Teekuchen Im from the future
GATTU BATTU me too
I sketch with orange lead (since it's mt favorite colour) and I find it's easier to fineline with it since the graphite is a lot more similar to the ink pens I use. But what I noticed is that the coloured pencil tends to be harder to erase and it stains my eraser. Either way, coloured pencil is fun to sketch with
I prefer sketching in red simply because I'm left handed and the waxiness makes the it almost impossible to smear👌🏻

I personally enjoy sketching in purple because I love the way it looks (I use the purple col erase, but I really want to try the pilot color Eno)🥰
thanks a lot for making this video! I was thinking about this a few days ago and I couldn't think if some proper reasons why people sketch in colored pencils. And do you have to use a particular kind of colored pencils?
+MakeItPossible2011 No, you can use any kind!
For me personally, I use Prismacolor Col-Erase pencils!
I use red and blue to sketch construction lines even if I’m drawing digitally, like you said it helps visually separate different elements of the piece
I'm getting 14 art supplies for Christmas and I didn't even ask for them (also my mom is an artist herself)
xXAnime NightcoreXx awesome!!
i don't have anything and don't get presents for christmas or my birthday but i hope you enjoy yourself
BOTH OF MY PARENTS ARE YAY
LUCKY!!!
Natalie -_- Me too i kind of feel sad becuase everyone gets gifts while I'm over here have nothing 😥
I've never thought about using those types of lead for sketching. Thank you for this!
I'm gonna try and find a purple col-e-rase online so I can have a pop of color in my sketches. :3
good places to check are blicks and amazon
+Kia Kamill thanks
No problem :)
Same here! Purple is my favorite color! :D
Yay purple
Great video! I love to use colored pencils before graphite in sketches so I can be loose and free and experiment with layout/forms/etc. Once I've got the major elements down I can do it with pencil and finalize the sketch before going to scanning or inking :)
I just do it because it makes me feel professional and fancy :3
I have been wondering about the why for a while as I see more and more people use colours for sketching. I only figured out the part of it looks nice 😁. Hearing the other reasons make want to try it myself. Absolutely love your sketch! I see the colouring video is also available, so going to watch that. Thanks for this fun video. Learned quite some new things 😊
What if i don't have a lightbox? Is there an alternative for a lightbox
unusual girl a window just hold it up
unusual girl I use a glass table and light it with my cellphone
Julia Lopez that could work IF you have a glass table....
Bethany Francia use your window then, but it's not the most comfortable way to do it
unusual girl Use a plastic storage container and just play a bright youtube video on your phone, placing it in the box.
Would it have the same effect if I used a normal red colored pencil?
+Arlene_Art 101 Yep! The Col-Erase pencils ARE regular coloured pencils. They just have an eraser on the end.
+Baylee Jae Thanks baylee😊 I'll definitely try it out😀
never used Cole-Erase pencils, but I assume the Erase better than Colored Pencils
Col Erase or Verithin have a much more broad range of value (for sketching) than regular colored pencils. They also erase a hell of a lot easier.
B urr pardon me, are you aaron burr, sir?
You can also use Hue/Sat/Lightness and Levels in photoshop to remove the sketch without losing your inking if your scanner does pick them up.
i use red pencil to sketch cause the color is very light and when i ink it i won't mistake it with the ink.
im just lazy...
I use to use blue when I had plans to color the picture because I found out it blended pretty well with my color choices and gave me the look I wanted
guys at 1:00 if u look at the bottom legg it looks like she is eating a burrito😂
She is 😂
🌯🌯🌯🌯🌯
I like sketching in colour because you can blend better later. For example I will sketch leaves in green pencil then colour them in with green watercolours or copics. You can almost create a lineless look this way or just have very subtle lines.
Use regular pencils traditionally, but digitally I always use red for some reason.
same
Ikr
Weird.
then you're the same as me! xD
I think its just because traditionally we use whatever we have and digitally we can pretty much do anything
Jordan B Same. I do that so I don't confuse the sketch layer with the line art layer
Just came in my recommended list and i liked her content for sure baylee will grow because right now shes slowly trending
Did you buy these pencil in a art on-line shop?, Could you recomended a intenational on-line shop when I could buy these pencils?, thank you XD.
+Marta Domínguez García I'm not that familiar with all the websites that ship internationally, but I know Blick does. I buy my Col-Erase pencils at local art stores.
Do you think there is somewhere in New Zealand you can buy them?
+Squirrel office depot carries the 12 pack col erase prismacolor
A lot of dollar stores carry cheaper versions in the school supplies section. They're not special tools or anything, and are in fact quite common in banking and record keeping, so they're usually stocked where other pens and pencils are. Maybe check your local dollar store? I use the cheap option since it's for sketching and they work just fine.
Michaels sell huge packs of them. They are sorta expensive though!
I'm definitely going to start sketching in colour now. Ive only used colour a couple of times now and I just love the way it looks
Lucinda Luci this*
Back in Architecture classes and offices that still uses drafting by hand, we use red or blue leads for the guidelines mainly because they don't appear in scans and prints. But now I use them just because I like the effect. ;)
Will a colored pencil smudge if I am left handed? Because that is one of my main problems when sketching with a regular pencil.
+Claire Kennedy Handedness has nothing to do with sketch smearing. But no, they don't really smudge much.
+Baylee Jae thanks, I will try and find some. They seem to work well!
Sense your amazing at drawing and lots of youtubers do giveaways, you should have giveaways where you give away drawings. ( Just an Idea )
+Claire Kennedy I recommend that you try 'em out! 😉
For me it's a bit of tradition, animators did it in the past, I was influenced by cartoons in my youth, and I love feeling connected to those guys.
When u draw a sucky drawing and u show it to your parents and they say " oh it's good" but really it's bad
Same lol I have the ones that look like god drew them himself and those that look like I just took a shit on piece of paper lmao.
You know what I'm jealous of? When artists are drawing traditionally and when they're doing their line art, they somehow can do it flawlessly. HOW. WHAT, EVEN. And then when I attempt to do it, my hand is shaking, I mess up, I jUST CANNOT DO IT
can you draw a mermaid please
Baylee actually has done some, just look up "Baylee Jae Mermaid".
And she doesn't like requests.
Try it :D
i watched 8 hours of this livestream
lol same
I want the art print

Lol We have no life!
I like watching you draw and I've seen some of your other drawing videos. Your process of blocking-in and fixing perspective is so interesting! Thanks for sharing! And yes, I've seen the finished picture - it is really gorgeous!
You kind of remind me of Vi Hart
IKR HER VOICE
ToonPrincess exactly!
Nur she doesn't talk as fast as Vi Hart
I only sketch in color when doing digital art because it looks a lot nicer and its better for distinguishing between the sketch and lineart if you have a lighter/bright color for the sketch. I use a bright pink for my sketching. Traditionally I will just use graphite
TH-cam auto-unsubscribed me!!!! UGH!
Jessica Morey phandom
Your rage dan profile picture explains your pain lmao.
One thing I've found about sketching in colour rather than graphite is that it smudges less, which is really useful :) Plus, it looks nicer!
I really like using colour pencils in my sketchbook, because those little splashes of colour make me smile. I just wish they were as easy to erase as regular pencils.
I sketch on paper with a regular pencil, but for digital I make my basic sketches with red then refine it with a dark blue before making the lineart
Cleaning up sketch lines is really easy if you use a putty eraser. I recommend the Koh-I-Nor putty eraser
I sketch like this because it’s just a fun way to sketch instead of grey
I like sketching in green, since I mainly use toned tan sketchbooks :)
Even if you draw heavily and the scanner picks up the sketch, there are a lot of different ways in Photoshop you can select a specific color (such as the red or blue) and get rid of it without interfering with the black ink lines.
I'm happy you managed to prefilm some videos. These always cheer me up on tough days !
I use it when learning something new for drawing because it’s easier to remember when it’s color
I think that it’s cool to see the drawing develop as they line
I tried sketching in with blue and boy I started to use a whole heap of other colors. It's so fun!!
for me personally, I use color erase pencils because it brings the picture together and its less grey toned.
I got inspired to use red and blue lead to sketch because of Baylee Jae!!!!!! You are amazing btw I love your videos
NON-PHOTO BLUE - used back in the day when artwork was shot with orthochromatic film which was red light safe and the light blue was invisible to it.
I have a blue pencil that I use. I like it because it's light and easier to erase. I also can barely draw light which helps me.
I always love sketching in red and blue
Another plus to drawing in blue (possibly other colors idk) is that it won't show through watercolors as much. I do all my watercolors in blue because then you don't have to erase as much to hide the lines beneath the paint.
